Some fucker has stolen my Nectar points

How the hell?? Just got an email from Nectar saying they've been spent at the other end of the country, checked my app - and sure enough, they've all gone 😡

Anyone know what my chances are of getting them back?

Me too! I got them back.

Not Badger Farm by any chance?!

Exactly - I didn't receive an email telling me that I was liable for any theft unless I locked the app. They hold my data, it's up to them to keep it secure, surely?

If the scammers are using a number generator to find card numbers with points on, Nectar hasn't lost your data.

I use the app all of the time, so knew about the ability to lock spending as soon as it arrived. If people don't use the app, I imagine they could be clueless. I don't recall an email (but have seen it on MSE).

NConthe · 20/11/2025 20:49

Just lock spending. They’ll give you them back. It’s always petrol stations in London and they’ve shouted from the rooftops about locking your spending.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 20/11/2025 20:49

I consider this a warning shot about digital ID. Sure, it's not money or personal identifiable information, it's points to get money off, so the more points you have, the cheaper things are. But the principle still stands; nothing is ever truly secure, no matter how well you lock it up.

I'm sorry this happened, OP.

Here's a thread of previous woe, which contains another thread of previous woe!

I was relieved when they brought in the locking function but I wish they'd improve mobile coverage near our Sainsburys. No one can spend their Nectar points now because they can't access the app in store to unlock them!

Nectar Points Stolen | Mumsnet

I’ve just checked my account and I’ve ‘lost’ 7,000 nectar points. They took 500 in Highgate and then 6,000 in Rhyl and another 500. Neither of which m...

DH got his back - £100 worth. The problem is that they can just guess the number and when they've got it, Bob's their uncle now. They were supposed to have been making it more secure, so I don't know why they haven't, yet.

BoarBrush · 20/11/2025 20:50

Happened to us too, over 200 quid too, we got them back with I think 20/25 as a goodwill gesture.

Higglea · 20/11/2025 20:51

Happened to me, got them back plus £10 extra from Sainsbury’s

Slushynana · 20/11/2025 20:54

I had mine stolen a while ago, I messaged them on Twitter and they sorted it for me. Gave me a new card and reinstated my points. I keep my points locked now!

WellINeverYesYouDid · 20/11/2025 20:56

I had exactly the same thing last month @SirChenjins

I rang the Nectar helpline & they said it’s been happening all over the UK. They sent me a new digital card whilst I was on the phone, I could see my reinstated points on that. I added that to my Nectar app & Apple Wallet there & then with no issues. Received a new physical card in the post a week later. It was amazingly easy to sort, just give them a ring. (I’ve since discovered it’s happened to a few friends.)

Edited

I would hope Digital ID had a bit more security than just a string of numbers.

Feeling envious of those who got goodwill gestures with their refunds! Mine was hard work to get refunded.

There is no mobile coverage in the JS near us too but they have wifi that you can use for the app.

Ifailed · 20/11/2025 20:59

OP, co-incidently I had an email this morning telling most of mine have been spent in Worksop, I live in Kent, have never been there and only use my local Sainsburys.
I phoned up and have received another email from Nectar telling my points are saved and they will issue me with a new card (and number) over the next couple of weeks.
In the mean time it means and can't use the self-scan device and will have to try and put a trolley through either a check-out (1/2 an hour of my life I''ll never get back) or go through the pain of a self-checkout.

SirChenjins · 20/11/2025 21:00

Sounds like it's a fairly widespread problem - I'm really sorry that so many of you have been affected.

I'll call them tomorrow morning and will report back - please keep everything crossed for me!

It happened to me last week. Only £15 but still. I called them the next day and they cancelled my card. I had a new card in my app within a couple of days with the stolen points returned. I didn’t know about the locking thing until I googled stolen nectar points.

SirChenjins · 20/11/2025 21:02

Oh what - no self scan?? @Ifailed That's how I do my shopping these days ☹️ You have my sympathies.

My dad spent all of mine!! He had used my nectar card at some point alongaide paying for something with his debit card. Then when he next went to use it it asked him if he wanted to use his points. He clicked 'yes' and used all of my points. I had loads as well. He had absolutely no idea what he had done bless him!

ThatCyanCat · 20/11/2025 21:13

Does this happen if you don't have the app?

GratefulBUTUnhappy · 20/11/2025 21:20

This happened to me too

elkiedee · 20/11/2025 21:23

Someone spent some of my Nectar points in the Midlands in the middle of the night a few months ago. It wasn't a huge amount - maybe £5 - and I think it may have been a plan to come back for the rest - 2 figures because we do use them sometimes before payday.

I claimed back my points - I think it took a few days - not really sure how it took so long - and I think I may have got new Nectar cards and key fobs.

TheQuirkyMaker · 20/11/2025 21:23

Jonstantlycuggling · 20/11/2025 20:29

This is a scam doing the rounds near us. Someone asks if you'd like their points as they don't have their card. Seems like a win win...they get nectar price, you get points. But when they go to pay, they can click on "use nectar points" and they do! Sorry it's happened to you 😥

Well, it is a win win. I was asked by a customer in Tesco if they could use my card to get the Clubcard reduction for them as they had forgot theirs. The cashier said that would benefit us both, they got the substantial reduction and I got some points. I can't see how that transaction would allow them to spend my points. The points were credited to my card, they couldn't use them without using my card and the vouchers.

Dollymylove · 20/11/2025 21:24

I had 120quid of nectar points stolen a couple of years ago. Used in Enfield, London, 200 miles away from me. You need to ring the nectar helpline and theh will cancel uour card and issue a new one with the points reinstated. Then use the locking facility which you unlock just before you shop and spend them. They have brought in a QR code rather than a barcode to spend them, which is meant to minimise theft. I worked at Sainsbury's and there was a big problem with nectar points going missing x

Well it certainly wasn’t me as I haven’t got a clue how to use them!

honestly Sainsbury’s Nectar has to be the worst loyalty card ever. Such a faff to spend them. Every time I try I just get pissed off and leave it.
