Some fucker has stolen my Nectar points

How the hell?? Just got an email from Nectar saying they've been spent at the other end of the country, checked my app - and sure enough, they've all gone 😡

Anyone know what my chances are of getting them back?

This has been going on for years. The ‘locking’ is a fairly recent thing. I had £60 worth of points but decided to just spend rather than save them than risk someone else getting hold of them. I don’t understand how it only seems to happen with Nectar and not with other loyalty cards eg Boots, Tesco etc. Does anyone know?

StarlightLady · 21/11/2025 07:12

Some people at Nectar are going to be busy this morning.

In Sainsbury’s itself. I don’t shop there regularly but when I do and try to use my points, I can never “find” them on the app so I decide to just leave it til next time and look up how to do it - but then I never do lol

Just ask at the till to use them. Or, at self service, choose the points option and choose the value you want to use.

I will defo make a point of sorting this out - I’ve accumulated about £25 so will be handy for Christmas fancy bits from Sainsbury’s!

I find Tesco much easier - the points just show automatically as vouchers on my app that I then scan at the til.

Ericeric · 21/11/2025 07:23

It happened to me there are terminals were you just enter the number and don’t need the physical card. I rang. Got a new card and number and a refund.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/11/2025 07:24

Yeah, there's no voucher for Sainsbury's, you just choose how many to spend and either the till operator deducts them for you, or you hit a button to choose the value to spend (has to be in increments of £2.50).

WideOpenBeaches · 21/11/2025 07:31

I’ve just found out that my points were spent in Edinburgh back in September. They spent it in 2 tranches on the same day.

I live in the SE. No way would I drive to Scotland to do my weekly shop!

Im sorry @SirChenjins you're also minus your points, but I’m very grateful for your thread on this. Hopefully others will see.

I had NO idea that this problem existed, and I just fling my card at the machine and only check my points on my paper receipt. Now got my app and spending is LOCKED 😉

Thirdtimeunlucky2025 · 21/11/2025 07:44

One of the reasons I spend mine immediately I get £2.50 worth.
hope you get them back OP. Good to know about the lock feature in the app

Thank you- you made me look and some fucker has stolen mine too.

Pickledpoppetpickle · 21/11/2025 08:24

this happened to me a few years ago - they refunded without any questions. It was spent on petrol about 5 hours away from me.

Tesco is much more of a faff. You literally press one button at the till for nectar, no need for random little £2 vouchers etc like you get at Tesco

SirChenjins · 21/11/2025 08:30

Update - I've just phoned the call centre and my points are being restored. They didn't seem at all surprised, nor did they say anything about the locking feature - I was prepared for an argument there, but they didn't raise it. Only drawback is that it's going to be about a fortnight before the points go back on and I can redeem any I accumulate in the meantime. No biggie though, as long I I can use them before Christmas it's fine.

I'm so sorry that so many of you have had the same experience - it seems like it's widespread 😡 Remember to lock your spending everyone.

With Tesco your points need to be converted into vouchers. You need to then do the vouchers. I assume that it’s easier to guess a nectar card number than it is to guess a Tesco voucher code.

Icequeen01 · 21/11/2025 09:01

I also had no idea about the locking points function or the fact that Nectar points are being stolen. Just went into my app and they are already locked. I know for sure I’ve never locked them as today is the first time I’ve heard of it!

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 21/11/2025 09:13

Yup. Same happened to me. Spent hours on usual outsourced call centre in India who wanted everything identifier from mother's maiden name to inside leg measurement which I obviously refused to give.

chimichangaz · 21/11/2025 09:19

@Icequeen01 if you’ve got another cardholder on your account they might have locked the points.
I’ve just downloaded the app to check my points haven’t been stolen (they haven’t - phew) but it was unlocked and I had to click on lock. At that point it told me there is another cardholder and it will affect them too, which was a surprise to me as I divorced 13 years ago and distinctly remember taking my ExH off my account.

Edited

I had this happen a few months ago - only 3000 points, but still, fortunately Nectar returned them all and now i have locked my spending until i want to use the points.

i wonder if they just fake cards and use random numbers and sometimes it does link to a real account

suburburban · 21/11/2025 10:24

I can’t lock mine even though I am the main account holder, DH has a key fob

That’s what I thought so checked with DH and he doesn’t even have the app. He only uses the physical card.

My mind is blown by this info - I seem to have some sort of mental block with Sainsbury’s lol. Defo need to check it out!

CandiedPrincess · 21/11/2025 13:34

NoWordForFluffy · 20/11/2025 20:31

That would only work if you don't have spending locked.

I'm amazed Nectar hasn't shouted from the rooftops about the ability to lock spending.

Mine were auto-locked, they sent me an email to tell me they'd done it.

LegoLandslide · 21/11/2025 13:51

Ifailed · 21/11/2025 06:57

I don't have the App, yet still lost them.
I can't even log on to their website - When I try it sends me a number to my email, once entered it tells me my email address is wrong!

This happened to me, the card was in my maiden name with my uni email address. I graduated 15 years ago! Nectar were helpful on the online chat and sorted it for me quite quickly.

Mausbajiiw · 21/11/2025 18:23

They auto lock the account if it’s over a certain amount of points

Fallulah · 21/11/2025 18:30

@SirChenjins Great news but be prepared to be rescanned every time you shop for the next couple of months - that’s what happened to us! There must have been some kind of flag on our account.

Crochetgirl67 · 21/11/2025 19:31

This happened to me. Thirty plus pounds of points stolen and used in a petrol station. Called Nectar and they refunded my points and issued a new card. Annoying and inconvenient.
