Labour isn't working - Thread 19

TheNuthatch · 13/11/2025 20:08

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I don’t think they had a choice with the income tax - not with the employment data. Whilst increasing benefits. They would’ve been out within the year. The last budget cause so much damage to the jobs market. This is now categorically proven.

@Legolava

There should not be a pro Labour echo chamber thread either - and Mumsnet should not allow the formation of one!
I didn’t seek out this thread, it came up in my feed (somehow!) - so I should really be free to comment!

I haven’t seen the ‘other’ thread. Can you link me?

Linking threads is not permitted by MN, I believe.

Sorry.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/11/2025 06:04

It's bad form to link other threads, so we can't do that.

MN does allowed 'themed' threads of all sorts, so let's try not to derail this one.

Interested in this thread?

Morning team & happy Friday!

So, back to the thread…

NoWordForFluffy · 14/11/2025 06:07

What is against talk guidelines is deliberately going onto themed threads and causing a nuisance by attempting to obstruct and derail, particularly with a spamming style.

Agreed - I think the back benches probably got to them, following their elastic definition of the ‘working’ and ‘non working’ and ‘working but non working’ etc.

I’m just about to get ready for my non-job today. Storm Claudia will add extra enjoyment to Yr 9 last lesson. Loving not working!

Y9 on a Friday. Last period. You are in my thoughts.

Upstartled · 14/11/2025 07:05

Here you all are, I thought we'd all gone very quiet. Morning.

TenLittleSweetWrappers · 14/11/2025 07:15

@NoWordForFluffy

But I did ask for clarification from Mumsnet, as my intention isn’t to spam or derail. I am interested in the thread and there are intelligent interesting discussions happening here.
When I first joined - my primary concern with a different government is my son’s EHCP, and I don’t think a different government will be the solution. Exclusion rates are at an all time high and I don’t think we should be segregating children off any more than we are.

This thread reflects the UK’s current political climate.

TenLittleSweetWrappers · 14/11/2025 07:17

It also worries me when I see the Chinese takeaway in York. With a different government, will behaviour like that become more prevalent and ‘acceptable’.

EasternStandard · 14/11/2025 07:18

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 14/11/2025 00:31

Hard to understand what this could possibly mean.

They don’t need the money to reassure the markets about debt? Seems highly unlikely.

Or that they’ll borrow more, or print? Suicidal.

Or that they’ll cut spending massively? Er, no, not possible, backbenchers and all.

Or that they’ll tax some people huge sums on wealth but no-one on income? That would be madness and would lead to capital flight and catastrophe on longer-term bond yields.

I think this is more Labour spin.

They haven’t found £40bn odd so no idea what they’re doing.

I think 'no idea what they're doing' is precisely what's going on! They're clueless, as they're hamstrung by the backbench which won't let them cut spending.

Lord, mine too.

I missed all the fun last night Dammit. It sounds like it was a ride.

Re themed threads. That people set up to discuss things they are interested in. If MN decides to ban those then where will I be without all the Christmas threads at this time of year? 😩

It is, however, VERY bad form to come onto a thread where people are discussing things rationally and intelligently and to tick them off for [insert stupid reason de jour].

Bloody rude actually.

You have sought clarification from MN, because you have criticised this thread as an ‘echo chamber’. And now you seek to post on here - you can see the hypocrisy, I hope.

Would you therefore be able to desist, pending clarification from MN, please?

Allow the thread to continue with its purpose and unity, please.

100%

And/or the OBR kiboshed Reeves (let’s face it, she is simply an OBR puppet).

Either way, it’s hard to see the markets reacting positively.

Agree. It’s so damaging. This constant spin and cluelessness.

They’re wrecking people.

They could have avoided quite such a strong impression of cluelessness by not running scared of a budget and postponing it, and by not indulging in endless leaks about intentions. Virtually everything written about this budget, and the damage caused by anticipation of potential changes, has been generated by Reeves’s pitch rolling.

Being misguided is one thing. Being misguided, misleading and indecisive is another.

Rivalled · 14/11/2025 07:35

It’s so draining - I can’t get excited about rumours of no rise in income tax, it simply means they’re going to target a narrower tax base more intensively….two more weeks...

Rivalled · 14/11/2025 07:37

After having rushed too fast into big defining disasters such as winter fuel and the benefits cuts that weren’t, we now have a top two that can’t execute…

Rexinasaurus · 14/11/2025 07:41

Parliament debate digital ID. Will be interesting on the 8th Dec. Gaslighting the plebs no doubt. Hopefully there will be some sane voices. But still Starmer and his poisonous ilk have decided we shall have digital ID.

Hopefully everyone will desist and make it impossible to administer.

Lowering tax thresholds is an increase in income tax. Is it to avoid that working people nonsense?

That’s not going to fly

Whatever they do non workers will pay much more, and full on benefits claimants will get a good rise.
