Victoria Wood. Matthew Perry. Whitney Houston. Natasha Richardson. Stephen Gately. Sarah Harding. Liam Payne.
Thankfully still with us but I'll be devastated when we lose Billy Connolly, Dawn French and David Attenborough.

JFK. Showing my age but I do wonder how different things might have been.

Martin Luther King . So tragic.

I imagine that we oldies all remember JFK dying, he was the first politician who had such a popular image, the first time I heard the word charisma was during his short Presidency. Had he not been murdered I doubt that Vietnam would have become the American disaster it was. Very frustrating not knowing what really happened to him.

NovaF · 13/11/2025 22:15

Rik Mayal, Amy Winehouse, Robin Williams, Bob Hoskins

Candelle · 13/11/2025 22:15

Another one who misses Terry Pratchett. I wanted him to write forever.

Theunamedcat · 13/11/2025 22:16

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 13/11/2025 22:17

Liam Payne.

duckydoo234 · 13/11/2025 22:20

Paul McCartney. Not dead yet, but I've been mourning his future death for a couple of decades already.

henlake7 · 13/11/2025 22:20

Anton Yelchin. Such a tragic accident and at such a young age.

2016 in general - the killing year, but George Michael in particular because it was Christmas day at the end of the shitty year (Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Prince, Caroline Aherne, Victoria Wood, Carrie Fisher, Terry Wogan etc). Stayed up sobbing for a long time - we had seen his final tour a few years before but never expected it to be "his final tour".

Yes, 2016. Death had a busy and high profile year.

AbbeyGrange · 13/11/2025 22:24

George Michael, Amy Winehouse and Michael Mosely

WinterIng2025 · 13/11/2025 22:24

And Michael Mosely if not already mentioned. I honestly felt like I lost someone I knew then. I'd followed Fast 800 and all the books, taught me soo much. Such a crazy loss.

AbbeyGrange · 13/11/2025 22:25

Oh yes not forgetting John Lennon and Kirsty McColl

winewolfhowls · 13/11/2025 22:25

Patricia Routledge recently hit hard. Keeping up appearances was one of those shows you watched as a family together growing up, while your mum made snarky comments about how your gran was hyacinth.

Terry Pratchett as mentioned upthread. Such a very very clever gentleman.

It sounds ridiculous but I always watch older films with animals as the star and feel sad that they will be long gone!

CommanderTaggart · 13/11/2025 22:26

You know what’s weird? Thinking about long-dead people who, in another world, could have still been with us today.

Martin Luther King would be 99, the same age as Sir David Attenborough.
James Dean would be 94.
Elvis would have turned 90.
John Lennon - 85.
Jimmy Hendrix would be 82.
Princess Diana would be 64.
Whitney Houston would be 62.
Heath Ledger would be 46 and Amy Winehouse would be just 42.

FcukBreastCancer · 13/11/2025 22:26

Deborah James

Dave myers (hairy bikers). His relationship with Si during filming was so special, and how he also met his lovely wife through his filming.

HansHolbein · 13/11/2025 19:55

Always Chester Bennington

Same for me. Like an idiot I didn’t see them live because there’d always be another opportunity, until there wasn’t.

SurferRona · 13/11/2025 22:29

Bowie.

Peaches Geldof, cos she was so young and loved her kids so much
River Phoenix.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 13/11/2025 22:29

Tina. Just loved that woman.

JulianClarysDog · 13/11/2025 22:30

Diana

Now. This I really don’t get. How on earth has David Bowie’s demise affected the world?

2016 brexit, trump.

broadsheetbabe · 13/11/2025 22:30

Paul Walker

WhereAreWeNow · 13/11/2025 22:31
