A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Hep, there’s a feeling of let’s go for broke…property tax wise doubling c tax on G, and H, a mansion tax, a reform to land value - all have been floated and the gist is, again, people in higher value houses somehow haven’t been paying their ‘fair’ share, despite us being more heavily taxes than any time since what, the 1970s?

The only thing I can think of and I'm probably wrong is that if the government made a rise in council tax mandatory, they could then reduce central funding they give to councils, which at the moment stand at around 69bn. So they would just love to shave a decent percentage off that.

Right, that makes sense. Thanks!

@Catatemyhomework

I think we hated the incompetent Tories, so we went for incompetent Labour.
Issue being that it’s now incredibly hard for any government to deliver because we are in financial dire straits since Covid.
When we are pushed to extremes, then we vote for an extreme party.
And an extreme party is more likely to start a war. You can see that throughout history.
Isn’t there a saying? Something about ‘we are the government - you and I’. Are we an incompetent society focused on our own individualism? Will this be our downfall? Will we fight our territory due to pressure on resources and start WW3?

Sunak and Hunt were doing a decent job trying to repair the previous 12 years of bad Government.
The terrible governance of the 12 years before Rishi and Hunt means we are left with a government pushing an agenda for the wholesale destruction of the British way of life.

The Green Party being at 18% in the latest Find Out Now (very accurate poster) is very worrying to me that people are taken in by a Communist loon. The interesting thing about Polanski is not just his Private School background, but that is family are entrepreneurs.

They are doing good work. Better time spent than Labour 😬

It's kind of amazing that you can cobble that together with ai in less than a day. I like the bit in the Houses of Parliament with Mahmood and Phillipson singing and dancing along. That jump suit was obscenely tight🤣

Good Political Currency this morning. I have to give Ed Balls credit where it is due - he could very easily just act as a cheerleader for Labour on the pod, particularly given who he is married to! But he’s not afraid to say when he thinks Labour have got it wrong.

Yeah, the growth of the Green party does seem ominous. Hopefully Your party will kick in soon and split that support.

Agree re Ed balls @CaveMum whereas feel TRIP weakened because Campbell really isn’t free to critique - he does try but you can see he’s too entrenched.

Lammy is Labour's tame joker, perfect fodder for videos like that - totally out of his depth in the HoC, and obviously floundering in the role of DPM.

I really doubt the Your Party - what a stupid name! - actually get off the ground at all.

It's all this political instability that worries me the most. Because the two main parties have fucked up so royally, it is giving the lesser parties a chance to hoover up the disenchanted. If the Lib Dems and Greens form an alliance, we could be in real trouble, because it won't be that simpering handwringer Davie who takes the seat as PM.
Much as I hate to say it, if things don't improve, the best thing for us and the country would be a pact between the Conservatives and Reform.

I'd actually rather fancy my chances with Labour than with a GreenLab.

People are realising Labour means tax hikes and job losses aren’t they

The pain is evident. I can’t believe the pre GE stuff to where we are. This site couldn’t countenance any indication this is what would happen.

No. But there were plenty of supporters who were adamant that they didn't need Labour to do well, they just needed them to not be the Tories. I wonder if any of this is testing their faith now?

SpaceRaccoon · 07/11/2025 10:43

Any Green coalition will be a disaster - just look at how the SNP's dalliance with the Greens played out.

EasternStandard · 07/11/2025 10:49

Green / Lab would be awful. Polanski has said he won’t join with Starmer but it doesn’t mean much, leaders can change.

The one thing that gives me comfort is the markets would give them a day. Although there is a lot of concerning stuff mixed in there.

Rivalled · 07/11/2025 10:50

Massive misrepresentation of Starmer and Reeves as Blairites pre election and pro business. Hollow laugh…

It was obvious though with the vindictive policies, and anti growth stance. I agree that Labour sold in Blair as some kind of spin that it would be similar.

Kemi just needs to ask in PMQs why they lied to the electorate in the manifesto. Starmer will fizz like an arrogant bottle

redange · 07/11/2025 10:59

This may seem a bit odd now, but I believe that Liz Kendall as leader might have been acceptable . The problem though will always be the 1000 factions within the Labour Party which makes sensible and competent factoring of Government impossible.
