What will Starmer do if Huntingdon...

Stabbing turns out to be terror related or in a similar vein to incident to recent incidents that were related to immigration ? We don't know the identities yet of the perpetrators. But the fact the Home Secretary is brought in to comment in tabloids and the discussion on LK on BBC today makes me worried its a possibility. The poor people on the train - I cannot even imagine .. ..Starmer needs to tackle knife crime as its rife. What is the answer ? When is there a tipping point ? I don't know but something must be done - I've never paid as much attention other than feeling so terribly sorry for any victims and families. Now I'm starting to get angry when I see anything like this

Who is this who is trying to stop the discussion posting every so often to tell others how horrible it is to be curious about the nationality and ethnicity of the criminal perpetrator? If you don't like logic and facts but all you are interested that you never anything ever related to your particular favourite skin colour, just stay off line

I have no problem with the police collecting this data.

What I have a problem with is the double standard. If the media report every crime committed by a foreign national or a non white person with a fat headline proclaiming that foreignness or non-whiteness, they should do the same for crimes committed by white people.

But they don't, because highlighting the 'foreigners and black people bad' trope brings more clicks and more revenue.

Report all crime in the same way in terms of ethnicity data and I'm happy.

What has this poster to be ashamed of?

of the fact she is trying to shame posters posting on the forum having done anything wrong.

The flags that appeared on lampposts on our daughter’s estate were pretty frightening. She hadn’t known she was living among racists. (They weren’t just flags, bugger all to do with rugby or whatever: they had Stop the boats printed over the flags in capitals).
Thankfully, majority of residents were appalled and took them down.

Why do you think saying Stop The Boats is frightening.

Do you think Starmer's slogan of Smash The Gangs is frightening too? Or Take Back Control of our Borders?

Since when are we allowed to speculate about things like that on Mumsnet? Isn’t that risking contempt of court?

Reported.

Oh wow, it took almost 3 weeks for police to contact me after an assault on my doorstep with CCTV footage, do you really think they have time for Mumsnet comments?

And they do report all crimes in the same way. Well except the Southport murderer who for some reason was presented as a Welsh choirboy without any extremist ideologies initially.

Who are you, the thought police?

How exactly is it risking contempt of court? Please explain.

Do you apply this to arrests in every criminal case which is in the news and therefore discussed.

Pathetic attempt to shut down discussion.

No one has been charged yet so it’s not contempt of court because there’s no court case yet.

As soon as someone is charged then main stream news media have to restrict their reporting to a short list of factual information until the case comes to court to prevent prejudicing the potential jury.

Which is why you’ll see the news organizations pulling opinion pieces and speculative content as soon as someone is charged.

Not sure how social media platforms are viewed or policed now in that regards.

There was a stabbing down the road from me a couple of days ago, I think resulting in death. It's received no media attention probably because it wasn't an immigrant or under 18 year old. It happens all the time, it's just a few cases which get all the attention and wind everyone up.

But the thought of being basically trapped on a train with 2 knifemen ( I bet they’re men…) IS genuinely new and terrifying. And clearly they meant business with so many so seriously injured.

It’s pretty clear from this and other threads that the residents of those hotels aren’t considered even as people by some posters.

Successfully dehumanised, all it takes.

Like the pp said "the attempted burning down of an asylum hotel is "unpleasant"

Camelhasthehump · 02/11/2025 15:52

WonderfulSmith · 02/11/2025 15:36

So you would be perfectly happy bringing up your children knowing that some people in your neighbourhood hate you and would have you deported given half a chance?

I wouldn't but then I would move somewhere else. No matter where you are from if not happy maybe consider that option. It is obvious.

Ted27 · 02/11/2025 15:54

@WishinAndHopin

So you know every single victim and passenger on the train was white ?

childofthe607080s · 02/11/2025 15:54

Stop the boats is frightening because most people who talk like that assume that all people who don’t look right are illegal immigrants who came to the uk on small boats and should be removed and they think small boats is a huge problem.

the assumption that you are not wanted, that people think you are illegal and drawing thousands in benefits, that people see you as a sex offender , it’s not nice is it?

Why should people be forced to leave their homes because others are so full of hate?

shouldn’t it be the haters who are made to leave ?

Sirzy · 02/11/2025 15:56

Camelhasthehump · 02/11/2025 15:52

So people should be pushed out of their homes by racists?

PandoraSocks · 02/11/2025 15:56

TheRedOrca · 02/11/2025 15:26

Still nothing on the motives

That sort of detail will come out during the court case. I take it you don't want that to collapse?

WonderfulSmith · 02/11/2025 15:57

Camelhasthehump · 02/11/2025 15:52

And go where? Why should they move?

Or perhaps we should get all the people who aren’t British by birth and get them to all live together in one place? Would that be better?

Sirzy · 02/11/2025 15:57

I have just walked the same 20 minute route I walked yesterday. I noticed 3 more houses now displaying union jacks than yesterday. Now it may be a coincidence but I find it hard to believe that is anything but racially motivated?

LBFseBrom · 02/11/2025 15:58

It is not terrorist related. Why on earth did people think it might be? If it was I doubt Starmer could do much, no government has been able to rectify previous terrorist attacks after they happened. Security is vamped up but things still occur.

How many of those countries that you named had an empire? Have you thought that the culture of many non white Brits is British or do you assume non-white equals not having British culture?

I don’t know but as a white British person can I go and live there too rather than being left behind with the racists?

Thought police 😂yeah, no, there isn't much thought to police on here if anyone was so inclined.

Certain comments about ongoing criminal cases can risk contempt of court if they prejudice a trial. That applies to any active case, not just this one. It’s about ensuring a fair process, not policing opinions. Discussion is fine, as long as it doesn’t cross that legal line. Another poster has clarified that this applies only after the suspects have been named. So I guess you can speculate about motives until then. Mumsnet posters generally know this.

Benidorm, perhaps, like the thousands of British immigrants there?
Oh, sorry, it’s ex-pats and g and t at 6 if you're white British, isn’t it? Silly me.
