Stabbing turns out to be terror related or in a similar vein to incident to recent incidents that were related to immigration ? We don't know the identities yet of the perpetrators. But the fact the Home Secretary is brought in to comment in tabloids and the discussion on LK on BBC today makes me worried its a possibility. The poor people on the train - I cannot even imagine .. ..Starmer needs to tackle knife crime as its rife. What is the answer ? When is there a tipping point ? I don't know but something must be done - I've never paid as much attention other than feeling so terribly sorry for any victims and families. Now I'm starting to get angry when I see anything like this

Someone painting a flag is not comparable to, for example, all the anitsemitic crap we see on 'the protests'. If you were Jewish and heard lunatics screeching 'from the river to the sea' you'd have reason to be scared. A flag on a lamppost not so much.

My neighbours are Afghan refugees. They are lovely, hardworking respectful people. I couldn’t ask for better neighbours. I image they were very upset by people painting flags on roundabouts and hanging them from lampposts.

Since when are we allowed to speculate about things like that on Mumsnet? Isn’t that risking contempt of court?

Reported.

I refer you to the Drogheda arson attack on an asylum hotel yesterday. Would you consider than an atrocity? Because I do.

Never heard of it it didn't even make the news. I think we can say yes it was unpleasant, yes those who did it need arresting but no not an atrocity as no one was harmed.

And what about black British people whose forebears (the Windrush generation) were all British from birth? Jamaican citizenship didn’t even exist until 1962, and even after then Jamaicans remained British.

Don't let history and facts get in the way of poster's prejudice.

The flags that appeared on lampposts on our daughter’s estate were pretty frightening. She hadn’t known she was living among racists. (They weren’t just flags, bugger all to do with rugby or whatever: they had Stop the boats printed over the flags in capitals).
Thankfully, majority of residents were appalled and took them down.

I'm sure they are more thick skinned to be upset by flags on lampposts. I imagine they've experienced actual horrors in Afghanistan.

'Vandalism'. You compared not liking flag painting to the atrocities we are discussing for some reason.

I’m not comparing anything. I was replying to this comment. Or, scared 'little people' sick and tired of these frequent atrocities that are usuallycaused by people with fucked up ideologies. We aren't allowed to say that though because the government tells us to be quiet.

I was saying that I don’t like the fucked up ideologies that results in people vandalising public property.

It’s not relevant to the events on the train in the same way that ‘these frequent atrocities caused by people with fucked up ideologies’ isn’t. We don’t know what the reason for this was all we know is it was committed by two British nationals.

Charlize43 · 02/11/2025 15:34

What will Starmer do? Probably go off to Isreal or to visit the USA or the Ukraine because they are not calling him 'Never here Kier' for nothing.

What has Starmer done about the Cost of Living crisis? Nothing.

Maybe everyone wouldn't be going crazy if they had better lives. I am beginning to think for some a lifetime in prison seems like an attractive alternative (three hot meals a day, accommodation, etc).

Wow.

Someone decided they wanted to burn a few dozen people alive and you don't consider that an atrocity. Just. Wow.

You have no idea of their mental state after those horrors. A clear sign that they are not welcome here would obviously be distressing, to anyone with decency and a conscience, anyway.

So you would be perfectly happy bringing up your children knowing that some people in your neighbourhood hate you and would have you deported given half a chance?

Simonjt · 02/11/2025 15:37

Gloriia · 02/11/2025 14:46

You get the posters point. If you moved to Germany, Sweden, Australia wherever had kids they are then not German Swedish or Australian are they?

Our two were born in the UK, they live in Sweden, they have Swedish passports as they’re Swedish citizens, why would they not be Swedish?

Who are you, the thought police?

How exactly is it risking contempt of court? Please explain.

Do you apply this to arrests in every criminal case which is in the news and therefore discussed.

Pathetic attempt to shut down discussion.

Both perpetrators were British. Born here.

I hope all of those who started spilling racist bile feel ashamed of themselves.

😂no one is ashamed on here. What about you though

It’s pretty clear from this and other threads that the residents of those hotels aren’t considered even as people by some posters.

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 02/11/2025 10:47

i feel ashamed of this country. How vile is our society when the first thing the police need to clarify is the skin colour and nationality of the attackers.

Just the opposite, these are important facts, just as any other facts related to the crime

When one of our dc was at uni, they were in the minority in one session where students talked openly with disdain about westerners. It works both ways.

I used to work in the ME, the nationals could be quite snooty about westerners. What you do is engage with people you do not get full of hatred and go round attacking folk. Local flags were often flying, so what! I coped.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/11/2025 15:42

IFartAlot · 02/11/2025 15:30

Then what does it mean to be British? Is there nothing about "belonging to a place". If I pack my bags and move to Kenya am I then kenyan?

How do we then define what it means to be "of a place"?

For several hundred years Britain and other rich European nations made their way round the world conquering other lands, taking their assets and forcing their residents to buy European products. In the earlier centuries the inhabitants were enslaved and forcibly deported to other territories. They were treated like second-class citizens and their own languages, religons and culture were often suppressed. Now we see their descendants attempting to move to richer countries in search of better lives, and suddenly national sovereignty is all important and they have no right to come here because they don't share the same heritage as the majority population. Incredible double standards at work.

OldBalkanNationalistGrumpy · 02/11/2025 15:42

Who is this who is trying to stop the discussion posting every so often to tell others how horrible it is to be curious about the nationality and ethnicity of the criminal perpetrator? If you don't like logic and facts but all you are interested that you never anything ever related to your particular favourite skin colour, just stay off line

DaphneduM · 02/11/2025 15:43

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/11/2025 14:51

It’s where you are born that dictates your nationality.

Not actually true. My husband was born in Africa to two British parents, therefore he's British. He's been joking recently that if Farage gets in he'll probably be deported!!!!

OldBalkanNationalistGrumpy · 02/11/2025 15:43

Stay offline, put some romantic movie involving all skin colours and live in some off line utopia. Some people here try to be informed as to deal with real life

Tealpins · 02/11/2025 15:44

The astonishing levels of racism on this thread.

I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and log out of Mumsnet.

It was fun, but not sure I'm very interested in the views of the sort of twisted up ideologues who clearly frequent these boards. Logic and decency elude them.

wordler · 02/11/2025 15:44

WishinAndHopin · 02/11/2025 15:18

Even if it's not specifically Islamic terrorism (still a possibility), a planned mass murder on a train is definitely terrorism, and there will be a good reason the police are refusing to release the attacker's identities.

Probably anti-white racism.

They haven’t charged them yet. They won’t release names until they have charged someone.

It would be absolutely the same for a white suspect.

The only time names are released before charges are made is when they haven’t got the suspect in custody and they name people of interest to help catch them.

The police have got a short window to question the suspects, the witnesses, gather and examine evidence. Be absolutely sure they have the right person/ people. Try to get a confession. Try to find out if it’s a one off event or part of something bigger.

They make any mistakes in these early days they risk not getting a successful prosecution or even worse missing more attacks.

It’s been less than 24 hours. I can’t believe people really believe the suspects are being protected because of their race.

OldBalkanNationalistGrumpy · 02/11/2025 15:45

as a Balkan, having the same nationality as many others but historically having dealt with various ethnicities within the country, this conversation is interesting to me, given another country and another , though very similar context. We still have free speech left. Wether someone dislikes that
