Truss barely gets mentioned now she is like Bobby in the shower, was all a bad dream same with all the billions wasted with track & trace/contracts/nightingale hospitals/Rwanda I’d be all day listing sheer amounts of money they spaffed.

Ah, yes, our work experience PM.

I enjoyed that 😂

So IF (bigly if) Reform get into Government after 2029, a reminder that to escape any austerity measures set your alarm clock before going to bed.

PandoraSocks · 04/11/2025 10:54

Badenoch copying Farage a little here. She doesn't need to worry though, as it won't be her decision to make:

Badenoch won't say Tories would reverse income tax rise if Reeves announces one
Q: If the government raises the basic rate of income tax, would you reverse it?

Badenoch says Reeves should not be doing that.

But she says, if the government does that, it will change the economic framework the Tories would inherit.

She says the Tories have already promised to reverse some tax increases, like the inheritance tax on farms, VAT on school fees and the windfall tax on energy companies.

placemats · 04/11/2025 11:05

A bright person has suggested that a 100% tax on Union Jack and St George's flags would pay for the NHS.

Like it.

SerendipityJane · 04/11/2025 11:17

But no mention that's what the Tories did to Labour then.

placemats · 04/11/2025 11:24

Badenoch is doing wishful thinking projection. It's not registering on my empathy chart because it's a person who has no empathy.

Notonthestairs · 04/11/2025 11:27

The Tories cut NI when we couldn’t afford it and called an election when the prisons were in crisis and emergency measures required FGS.

bombastix · 04/11/2025 11:29

BIossomtoes · 04/11/2025 09:38

Goes without saying. I just wish they hadn’t made those foolish promises and they’d reversed Hunt’s unfunded NI cut immediately. No wonder the Tories spent the entire election campaign predicting tax cuts, they knew they were inevitable, not least because of the bear traps they’d set.

I agree.

However, Rachel Reeves is A staggeringly poor politician. Her statement today was not encouraging. It is not even about tax. It is her dog dragging its bottom along the path approach which I find utterly unimpressive. The UK has huge problems. She is not the Chancellor to solve them.

Appealing to a very small group then.

It says he is stable, so hopefully he will be OK. He deserves some kind of award or medal for his heroism.

Definitely. George Cross is the highest award for civilian bravery, isn’t it? How does one suggest someone for that?

I hope his employers put him forward for the George Cross. If they don't I'm sure plenty of those present will want to.
And of course there were a number of other brave souls that stepped into harms way to protect others.

It's interesting that while this is going on, there is talk of removing someone elses honours.

I just scroll past except when it's tried to bullshit with hilarious results.

bombastix · 04/11/2025 12:13

I hear Reeves will mirror on income tax, so cut NI by 2 pence, increase income tax by 2 pence. If that is right, then “working people” are largely unaffected. Take home pay effectively stays the same. But for wealthier pensioners and landlords with rental income, who don’t pay NI, that will affect their incomes.

I also don’t expect my tax free allowance to be going up.

Reform councils to raise tax for 2m households despite pledging cuts
