So that it sounds like drawring?

That’s all thank you. It’s annoying me that I can’t remember which accent it is.

TIA

Maybe essex?

PattyBladelll · 29/10/2025 20:05

I’ve just said it out loud and realised it sounds like that when I say itBlush I’m from Somerset

MagicLoop · 29/10/2025 20:07

It's not a specific accent imo, it's just a relatively common pronunciation mistake/feature in quite a lot of southern English accents. Children also quite often do it but some grow out of it.

SandalsAndSand · 29/10/2025 20:09

South of England then thanks. I am trying to remember the name of a presenter. Our new neighbour looks like him and I can’t recall the celebrity’s name but I do recall that he says drawring so I may be one step closer to remembering who our new neighbour resembles.

Yes it really is that stupid and petty but it’s annoying me who the presenter is.

I'm Midlands based and I'd say it that way too.

VikaOlson · 29/10/2025 20:11

I'm in the south west and say drawring too.

schroeder · 29/10/2025 20:14

Huh? I thought everyone said it like that.

Nope in Doric NE Scotland it would be
Draain.

No. There’s only one r sound when I say it.

I’m so confused as I thoughtful that’s how it was said! 😆

OP do you say “draw-wing”?

Pricelessadvice · 29/10/2025 20:42

I say it like “drawring”

Surely the w is kind of silent and simply influences the way the ‘a’ is said? So it’s kind of said “Droaring”

No. Draw-ing. I don’t add any extra sounds.

No. Draw-ing. I don’t add any extra sounds.

This is kinda fascinating as I wouldn’t say I add any extra sounds either, but when joining the “aw” sound to “ing” I do use an “rrr” so it sounds like “drawring”. But it’s not obvious and I’ve never considered it til now 😆 😁

Knowsley · 29/10/2025 20:50

I've heard it in Cheshire.

I’m SE and pronounce it the same as you OP. No R sounds at all.

FullOfMomsense · 29/10/2025 20:52

My first thought was scouse, but that's more like droh-rin

BrunchBarBandit · 29/10/2025 20:52

It’s Drawring in Liverpool too

LillyPJ · 29/10/2025 20:53

I say drawring and I'm East Midlands. I find it hard to imagine it being pronounced without the extra 'r'.

HolyMacaroniBatman · 29/10/2025 20:54

Common! (That’s how I say it) 😳

dudsville · 29/10/2025 20:54

I'm sitting in bed now saying "drawing" and "drawring" out loud. I wonder how many others are doing this! Anyway, I pronounce it draw-ing, and I'm in the south.

I've just noticed I say sawing with less r than drawring.

Itiswhysofew · 29/10/2025 20:55

Even listening to the dictionary's version of it sounds like draw-ring to meGrin

derxa · 29/10/2025 21:03

How bloody irritating

Gatekeeper · 29/10/2025 21:03

Draw-ing here in (or rather draw-n') in S.W Durham

BitOutOfPractice · 29/10/2025 21:04

I’m from the West Midlands and I say draw-ring. We have form for adding extra letters / syllables though.
