What are AirBnB guests up to…?

We have a self contained annex on our property and have been running an AirBnB. Two youngish men checked into today. I’d say late twenties or early 30s.

We live centrally in a lively city so normally guests check in and are out for most of the evening at the theatre or having a meal or attending a concert etc.

Today’s young men checked into at around 3 pm and since then they’ve left the flat 5 times, each for around 20 minutes a time. I only know this as we have an external ring camera at the edge of the property. What could they possibly be doing..? I can understand popping out for a food run or beer run. But 5 times…?

Also why check into an Airbnb and pay a premium to stay in a central location and not go out…!?!

Drugs, picking up cigarettes, alcohol, etc.

TequilaNights · 25/10/2025 20:20

Doing what the hell they like because they can 😁

Why are you watching them?

Inahuff · 25/10/2025 20:31

We're like that when we stay out. Go a wander around. Come back. Go to the shop. Come back. Realise we've forgotten something and go back to the shop. Come back, wander in a different area. Come Back. Go out to pick up a chippie or kebab. Come back. Are we weird? Lol 😂

Do guests know that you will be watching them via the external ring camera?? These guests can come and go as they please and do whatever they want! I would be really unnerved to realise that I was being monitored by the AirbnB host whilst I was staying somewhere.

CalmShaker · 25/10/2025 20:35

Go and knock on their door and ask them if they're ok for sugar whilst winking

Simonjt · 25/10/2025 20:39

Fellow airbnb host with an airbnb on our property, have you declared the camera and informed your customers their movements will be monitored?

itsgettingweird · 25/10/2025 20:39

Going out for a cigarette or to vape?

if you have a no smoking on the property rule and a camera they may be going out of view?

IDontHateRainbows · 25/10/2025 20:41

It'll be drugs OP. They're on a bender.

Go and increase their paranoia factor by knocking loudly to ask them if they need to borrow a rolled up note and mirror.

PeonyBulb · 25/10/2025 20:41

So you’re bored and stalking your guests ?

Bumdrops · 25/10/2025 20:45

Right, I’m curious…
do they leave together or separately or is it varied ?
are they walking somewhere/ going in car or something else ?
same clothes each time ? different? Disguises ??
come back with empty hands ? Bags - if so, what kind ??
do they look suspicious? Clueless ? Overtly happy ???
come on !!! If u gonna snoop - get the deets !!

mondaytosunday · 25/10/2025 21:10

Whoa there's a got to be rules about this! Just checked and yes you do have to declare to your guests in the listing that you have security camera (like a ring doorbell).
Though other than that mind your own business.

Skippingxaway · 25/10/2025 21:23

When i stay in air b&bs or hotels im in and out like a mad woman .
I smoke i have to go out side to do that. Sometimes i just want to walk around come back in then back out for a fag or a bit of sight seeing food etc.
Depends on where i am.
But yes im like a yo yo and not once as it been a problem.

But it makes me think now is this what owners do now stalk us.

Possiges · 25/10/2025 22:17

Yes, for those who asks - the listing makes clear there is an external camera. There are no interior cameras.

I make no apologies for that. It’s my home. I have children on the property. You think I’d allow strangers here without an external camera?!

You get picked up by people’s ring doorbells and shop and council CCTV all the time walking down the street.

If you stay in a hotel, you’ll be caught on CCTV in the entrance, bars, lobbies and corridors.

If you are precious about being caught on camera you need to stay at home! The listing makes it clear and if they don’t like it they are welcome to take their money elsewhere.

I am not stalking them. Just curious as we have multiple guests per week, and no-one has done this before.

Bored and stalking, no. Curious and vigilant, yes. Ok, maybe a bit bored - any Netflix recommendations?

Scoffing at “fellow Airbnb host…declared… informed….”. Do you always take yourself so seriously? I’m imagining you marching around with a clipboard.

Never done it myself. Is chem sex better than regular sex?

As a regular airbnb user I find it creepy that you are watching your guests so closely. I would hate this.

crazeekat · 25/10/2025 22:26

They might be gay lovers having a mad passionate affair and this is the only way they can be together without anyone finding out.
they might be brothers having a well overdue catch up.
they might be mates working on a book or storyline and needed a change of scenery.
they might be secret air bnb bloggers looking at the best accommodations . They might be looking at the worst accommodations to which u might win for lack of privacy.

It would be odd not to notice unusual behaviour.

Ah how romantic. I would quite like it if our little summer house formed part of someone’s wild love story…

I have never seen on a listing. We will watch your entries and exits and count them.
