What are AirBnB guests up to…?

We have a self contained annex on our property and have been running an AirBnB. Two youngish men checked into today. I’d say late twenties or early 30s.

We live centrally in a lively city so normally guests check in and are out for most of the evening at the theatre or having a meal or attending a concert etc.

Today’s young men checked into at around 3 pm and since then they’ve left the flat 5 times, each for around 20 minutes a time. I only know this as we have an external ring camera at the edge of the property. What could they possibly be doing..? I can understand popping out for a food run or beer run. But 5 times…?

Also why check into an Airbnb and pay a premium to stay in a central location and not go out…!?!

Could be anything - checking out nearest shop/pub/restaurant, picking up food, alcohol etc, it's not particularly suspicious, is it?

I stayed in a cottage on an estate last year for over 2 weeks while work was being done to the house. They had a main gate & a Ring - I never thought anything of it - but now I'm wondering if they were analysing my every move!

I didn't act like a typical visitor or holidaymaker because I wasn't one - I did the school runs, dog walks, food shopping, then we disappeared for most of a weekend to a family wedding. I'm wondering if they were thinking "Mmm, v suspicious behaviour" now... and writing about it on the internet😅

MeganM3 · 25/10/2025 23:24

They’ll just be popping out for a smoke.

Who said they were gay?!?! Their sexual orientation never crossed my mind. Why are you making an assumption about them…?! Their sexual preference is entirely irrelevant.

maybe they came on holiday to an ‘annexe’ by mistake.

Bored and stalking, no. Curious and vigilant, yes. Ok, maybe a bit bored - any Netflix recommendations?

Stay in a hotel then.

This is actually a brilliant advert for hotels over Airbnb.

Praying4Peace · 25/10/2025 23:32

Why are you so worried?
Let them be

Not worried whatsoever. Whatever they are doing I hope they are having a more interesting Saturday night than I am!

If your paths don't cross, why flag you've got children in your property so are concerned. Own your nosiness.

SunnyViper · 25/10/2025 23:45

Nosey as fuck

My name is Possiges. And I am nosy.

It feels so good to get that off my chest. Thank you for helping me with this breakthrough.

It sounds like they’re probably going for a cigarette and being courteous enough to go off your property for it

Erm, maybe The Woman in the Window, or The Watcher? Or The Boy(s) Next Door? 🧐🤣😉

pavillion1 · 26/10/2025 00:19

maybe on the next series of hunted

Beautifulbouquet · 26/10/2025 00:25

I bet they're doing TikTok vids using the Great location then coming back to watch and edit footage and change clothes to maximise the content they can get from a short stay.

The drug and sex suggestions are Mumsnet ignorance at their best

pumpkinscake · 25/10/2025 22:29

I have never seen on a listing. We will watch your entries and exits and count them.

Exactly.

Not everyone travels to be a tourist. For some people, it's a stop-over. For others, a break away from family. To have a rest somewhere. A working weekend (with fag breaks).

I WFH. Live with LOUD family. I have on occasion gone to a hotel or got an air bnb to crack on and get more done.

If you only let your property on the condition the guests need to be out all day, say so.

Yes I know how a ring camera works. Presumably it’s going off whenever they leave? But regardless, you are noticing it. And you are thinking about it enough to create a post on MN. Which to me is a little bit odd. You choose to rent your property out to strangers for cash, it doesn’t really mean you’re entitled to know what they’re up to - within reason of course. If they are doing something illegal or damaging the property or whatever then that’s different. But leaving and coming back could be all manner of things, most likely popping out for snacks or having a smoke.

I'd agree with this! Why make a thread on your own Airbnb guests watching their every move?

shhblackbag · 26/10/2025 01:25

Simonjt · 25/10/2025 20:39

Fellow airbnb host with an airbnb on our property, have you declared the camera and informed your customers their movements will be monitored?

This! What the actual fuck.

CrazyGoatLady · 26/10/2025 01:31

Possiges · 25/10/2025 23:02

I never said I was entitled to know anything. I was just curious… I’m not exactly knocking down the door demanding they account for their movements…!

And I haven’t even got the Ring app set to alert. I opened the app once and saw how many times they’d triggered the camera. It’s really not a big deal.

A big enough deal to post on MN about it speculating what they could be up to though!

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 26/10/2025 01:33

They're probably just popping out for a vape.
