Things I don’t do…that apparently everyone else DOES do…

Tonight I put some Nivea on my face but apart from taking my makeup off each day, I don’t have a skin care routine and I don’t use moisturiser that often.

Other things I don’t do…I don’t make the bed every day (might straighten it, but that’s it), I don’t keep takeaway boxes (does anyone?) and I don’t send Christmas cards (never miss a birthday though).

What things do you not do…that most other people seem to do? This is a ‘no judgement’ thread. 😆

Gosh. There are a lot of joyless sounding things that people are posting about. I guess the one that shocked me the most is the poster who never reads and doesn't own any books.

The things I don't do that most MN posters seem to do are:

Ignore the phone and the doorbell
Not iron
Hate summer
Snuggle under a cosy blanket in candlelight all winter
Take cocaine and have friends that do
Have enormous boobs
Find bras uncomfortable
Have a child who achieved all A* at GCSE and A level
Wear a trench coat
Have a multiple step skincare routine
Hate shopping
Never watch TV

I don't have a skincare routine, either
I don't have a TV in my living room
I don't eat takeaways
I don't cook or eat "Christmas dinner"
I don't have a microwave
I don't have a Christmas tree or any decorations
I don't watch soaps or reality TV
I have no idea what a "deep clean" is!

This! Although for me it would be scroll on my phone and look at rubbish!

I don’t clean my windows or blinds (they’re rank but I’m lazy!)… actually this has prompted me to do this today whilst the weather is atrocious!

I rarely get my hair cut (expensive!)

I don't swear
I have no idea who is a celebrity and who isn't

I don’t celebrate adult birthdays
I don’t take my DC out of school for cheap holidays
I don’t watch films

I’m quite reassured by this thread now. I thought I was maybe the odd one out by not doing anything in particular to my skin (most women I know seem to have a ‘routine’) so am glad I’m far from the only one.

I also don’t shop, well not in a browsing for fun sort of way. I try and do as much as possible online but if I do need to go into a clothes shop, I’ll do a quick scan to see if there’s anything I fancy and then quickly scurry out. That’s probably not that unusual though.

I don’t have any credit cards.
I have never had my nails done.
I don’t go to the hairdresser.
I don’t (remember to) take my make up off😆
I don’t wear shoes, as in ballet flats/brogues/loafers - just boots and trainers.

Loads of these:
Don’t wear make-up (gave up years ago; so liberating to realise I was not getting arrested and children were not running away from me screaming, and I was shit at it anyway)
Don’t send Xmas cards
Don't iron.
Don't even know what eyebrow threading or blading mean.
Don't know what deep clean means.
Don't make the bed, although as it's a duvet what am I meant to do anyway? I do turn it back when I get up.
Don't like parties (well, gatherings more generally), although I need to work on this or I'll have no friends.
Don't drink alcohol, which while my DP and friends don't give a shit causes some people to have a conniption.
Don't drive/me and DP don't own a car. People in London where we live don't even find this worthy of comment; people who live in suburbia/small towns etc whose feet seem never to touch the pavement seem to find it miraculous that we can get around/live.

I do love a lot of the other stuff people on here don't do – telly including Traitors and Strictly, coffee, my dishwasher and microwave, going on holiday.
And I have a stack of takeaway containers that I both freeze and microwave, and no one's died yet and the house hasn't blown up.

Incidently most black people moisturise face and body almost daily. Takeaway boxes or tupplewear is pretty essential.

These are minor though.

I have a lot pity for the people on this thread missing out everyday conveniences.

Stunned at the poor hygiene practices of others.

I dont remove my make-up
Dont use FB, Instagram, tik tok
Dont send Xmas cards or put them up when people send them
Dont do beauty treatments like nails, brows etc.
Dont wear clothes with obvious labels on show. I dont like to advertise. Well, not if I can help it.

@CRCGran If you’ve got OCD, that’ll be why you get the heeby jeebies I guess. Surely though you know that people who don’t have OCD feel differently- that’s why you’ve got a diagnosed condition and they haven’t. Or did you mean you’re just a bit particular with more spare time than others?

Me neither but the skirting board thing is getting a bit grim to the point I did try to clean them the other day but it is like the dust is stuck to them and won't come off. I tried a bit of CIF but it took the paint off.

I don’t really watch live TV, I might watch some shows in the background when I’m extremely bored. I’ve never watched mafs or any of those other reality shows, never watched a game show. I watch Netflix though.

I don’t get waxed, I just shave.

I don’t cook or host for people, I just about cook for myself and family.

Yeah, not diagnosed...Just very pernickety... and yes I have lots of time to do these things, but even when I was extremely busy with work etc I couldn't have left the house with the bed unmade. And I go to a friend's house with very obvious thick dust on her skirtings... its disgusting!! Bed making takes SECONDS to do. Dusting skirting boards.... I can do the entire 11 room house in minutes. It's not a lot of time. Oh dear God, I just realised I sound like a bloody fanatic. I'm not, there's currently dirty dishes in my sink and washing in the machine that was done yesterday but not hung up yet. I'm going to actually shut up now.

I don't get fake nails done (I do sometimes paint them with polish myself), apparently nearly everyone does this now which I find insane.
