What was your ludicrous Lockdown purchase?

Mine was a £1000 mini trampoline. I think I've probably used it about 30 times altogether! To be fair it is top quality and lots of fun when I can be bothered to use it. I don't regret it.

What about you?

A second labrador.

I love him to the ends of his little toes. But he is a pita, can't be walked off lead by me despite three times as much training as the older dog, has form for the occasional bite and rolls in fox and human poo on a regular basis when he is out with the dog walker.

£2000 as well. I was drunk when we made the decision..

But he is the cosiest, curliest, sweetest little person and loves me to bits too.

Form for the occasional bite? That’s not cute or sweet.

Mine was a greenhouse for dh, it currently stores cardboard and kindling!

Overthebow · 22/10/2025 08:59

We didn't have any crazy purchases but we did buy a new house because of the stamp duty holiday and so we had working from home space.

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 22/10/2025 09:01

DH managed to secure and purchase a 5L container of hand sanitizer when everywhere had sold out. It’s still sat in the cupboard under the stairs and unused. I bought a fancy coffee machine. I don’t drink coffee, never have and never will.

No, fair enough! But he does have a very sweet nature, we think he gets nervous and defends.. I literally spent hours and hours training him at socialisation classes. 🤷🏼‍♀️
But he's a super sweet dog, just not the stupid lolloping labrador we were expecting.
He was from the same gundog breeder too.

Nothing. I was made redundant at the end of furlough (Aug 2020) so froze all non-essential spending. It took 7 months to find another role and then I spent a year building back my emergency fund.

I grew lots of veg, and learned how to service a mountain bike though 😊

Onefortheroad25 · 22/10/2025 09:08

Probably the treadmill. Complete waste of money.

TeenToTwenties · 22/10/2025 09:10

No crazy purchases.
But did buy a velvetiser that gave me hugs in a mug and helped me through. Still gets used daily now by DD.

TheNameOfTheDaisy · 22/10/2025 09:10

A packet of yeast that DH made me buy when we knew lockdown was coming. It’s enough for 1 loaf of bread; we don’t (and didn’t) have any of the other things we’d have needed to make bread, but DH got himself into a complete panic and absolutely insisted that I had to go out and find yeast.

Hoppinggreen · 22/10/2025 09:13

2 inflatable hot tubs
4 crochet kits (unused)
a tent (unused)

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/10/2025 09:14

Nothing really crazy, but I did buy shed loads of hand sanitiser that we are still working our way through, lol.

MrsBeltane · 22/10/2025 09:17

A new càr that I wasn't allowed to test drive. Bought it as the dealer was offering 20% off for NHS staff.

DragonScales · 22/10/2025 09:19

1000 modeling balloons. Spontaneously purchased, thinking that it might entertain the dc for a day or two. Its a totally random skill but we can now all make baloon swords, dogs, flowers, butterflies, crowns, etc.

CrikeyMajikey · 22/10/2025 09:37

A pizza oven which I absolutely do not regret. And a running machine which made me feel guilty every time I passed it.

angelos02 · 22/10/2025 09:42

A ton of clothes from Sosandar that only fit me for a while due to lockdown weight gain!

Sadcafe · 22/10/2025 09:45

Hair clippers, used twice now in a draw where they will remain unused until we eventually throw them out

Sack of bread flour.
I imagine it is moludering away in the garage.
I made 3 loaves of bread and lost the will to live.
We also have what appears to be a life time stock of cheap J cloth type things.
DH and I were running out of toilet roll.
Wees would be washed and reused, solids would be bagged and binned.
Luckily it didn't come to that

Me too, a big roll of knock off Chux wipes. It did come in handy in the lavvy paper shortage here. I donated the huge second roll (unopened) last year

zebrazoop · 22/10/2025 09:55

A disco ball

3 different coffee machines - very poor planning on our part!

Why 3?
Which is your favourite?

My crazy lockdown purchase was a guitar I can barely play a note on.

Lifesd · 22/10/2025 09:58

All the shit to make my own sushi - did it once - major faff and never again.

A glut of long life milk which despite its long life remained unused until we threw it out.

Love it!

BadActingParsley · 22/10/2025 10:00

A huge quantity of tooth floss - as I could only buy in bulk. Used the last one up about a week ago.

A massive tub of dried porcini mushrooms - honestly catering size - just getting to the bottom of that one now....why I thought porcini mushrooms were the answer to everything, fuck knows.

Oh yes, bought a dog grooming kit, the dog took one look at my nervousness and went and hid under the table and refused to come out. Used the clippers once on DH's hair ....

FurForksSake · 22/10/2025 10:01

I did buy a sack of bread flour from a mill and a tonne of yeast. I shared it out to some extent and used it all over about 18 months.

We bought a trampoline and used it for two years and then it got stuck down the side of the house. We had it out again last year but not this. Should probably get it out next year or regime it.

Of God we bought a set too. And they weren't even cheap all the cheap ones were out of stock.

Blarn · 22/10/2025 10:02

It was as we were coming out of covid but definitely a reaction to how much time we spent at home: an absolutely enormous beanbag. It's still in the way.
