What was your ludicrous Lockdown purchase?

Mine was a £1000 mini trampoline. I think I've probably used it about 30 times altogether! To be fair it is top quality and lots of fun when I can be bothered to use it. I don't regret it.

What about you?

I'm currently using an industrial sized bottle of kitchen disinfectant as a door stop in my utility room. One of the local catering suppliers started selling to the public during lockdown and I got a bit carried away. See also glass and mirror cleaner...

Xiaoxiong · 22/10/2025 10:07

Also bought enormous amounts of flour to support a local business that was selling stock, and hair clippers that have never been used again.

Far too much Lego - it really kept the kids going, but now we have so much Lego that has over the years been broken and mixed up and the kids are older now and don't play with it anymore. I know I have to treat it like an experience that we purchased rather than a physical item, and declutter it all at some point, but I daren't think how much it all cost in total!

Pasadenadreaming · 22/10/2025 10:11

A breadmaker, which I still use all the time, and a Cricut, which I used to use loads but now never have time to. There's a whole craft room set up and everything😂

No, fair enough! But he does have a very sweet nature, we think he gets nervous and defends.. I literally spent hours and hours training him at socialisation classes. 🤷🏼‍♀️
But he's a super sweet dog, just not the stupid lolloping labrador we were expecting.
He was from the same gundog breeder too.

How on earth is he rolling in human faeces?

QueenOfCastille · 22/10/2025 10:24

The only things we bought are still in use: extra TVs. We didn’t make any rash purchases.

My treadmill is broken, though. I’d love to replace it if any of you would like to donate your unused ones! (Especially if they are a NordicTrak with a 15% incline)

How on earth is he rolling in human faeces?

We live near lots of bridleways and woods where there are regular cycle and bike races and lots of training.

It is much more common than you imagine.

If my older dog goes behind a tree and won't come out, he's usually found human poo and about to dig in for a mouthful - trust me the smell is very different!

4 fray bentos pies. I had to buy a new tin opener to get into them, only to find they are inedible. They are so salty. I should have known they would be foul as all the shelves were stripped but they still had these. If we were to go into lockdown again I would be at the front of the queue to panic buy. We didn't and ended up struggling to buy basics.

You sewing/embroidery machine buyers - regrets, or have they had lots of good use?

I was already a keen quilter and had a decent sewing machine but during lockdown I saw an over €2k sewing machine on sale for €1.6k and bought it on impulse. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever. I have a pile of quilts with no home yet because I had so much time to make them during lockdown, but that's a happy problem.

I may have over-ordered quilting fabric, but I'm not sure that was caused by lockdown as it has continued since. Buying fabric and using fabric are two separate hobbies apparently. Grin

Ah the running machine.
Used a couple of times I came out with all of this bollocks when I was working from home like oh I'll have a quick sprint whilst the kettle boils when working from home. Did I fuck.

EveryDayisFriday · 22/10/2025 10:58

A deep fat fryer. Lots of salt and pepper chips, churros and homemade kfc.

Unsurprisingly, I gained 3st from Nov 2019 to Summer 2022 and I was already 2st overweight to begin with. 😐

I ran a mini flour purchasing consortium in my local area, having found a supplier who would sell it by the sack (it was lack of flour bags that caused the shortage).

Also an Instant Pot, bought on the second day of lockdown and never regretted.

BlindSpotForCats · 22/10/2025 11:08

Ice cream maker and a bread maker. Neither of which we ever used.

Mind you, we got a slow cooker when we got married 20 years ago and never used that either.

A friend who was actually very dog-experienced got a lockdown puppy that now can't be left alone or ir destroys things in distress. her DH and DCs go on holiday without her. She took i to work until her office rebelled and she was told dog or job and she resigned. She's now stuck at home and can't even go to the shops without it. She's tried behaviourists and sedation and they are now at the point they are planning to euthanise a healthy 5 year old Viszler.

Nitgel · 22/10/2025 11:12

A weighted hoop that was too big to use inside and I was too embarrassed to use outside.

QuickPeachPoet · 22/10/2025 11:16

An LED lamp to do my nails. It was hopeless. Each manicure lasted under 5 days and ruined my nails.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 22/10/2025 11:18

Hair clippers which DH still uses.
An electric scooter which was absolutely mental and has only been round the garden once. DH (a 55 yr old suit) thought it would keep him off the Tube. I don’t think they had made it illegal to use them on public roads yet but he would still have had to take it on the commuter train into London. It was a completely mad idea.

We didn't have any crazy purchases but we did buy a new house because of the stamp duty holiday and so we had working from home space.

I also took advantage of the stamp duty holiday and impulsively downsized to a one bed bungalow nearer to my 2 adult DC. I had been planning to move after coping with a big 4 bed family house alone for a while. It was the best time to do it as well because houses were flying off the shelves.
Really happy with my new home.

SmoothCollie · 22/10/2025 11:19

A mini cooper. I have a 6 ft 2 husband a collie and a pointer, I don't know where I thought we were all going to go. Traded it in for a Qashqai as soon as I could 😂

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 22/10/2025 11:19

A new bread maker incase the old one broke. It didn't it's still working fine...😂

inamarina · 22/10/2025 11:20

A spiky massage mat that has since been gathering dust under the bed and a subscription to a yoga app I’ve probably used five times or so 😬

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/10/2025 11:25

Massive jar of Aloe Vera gel and similar amounts of surgical spirit.
I'd found a recipe to make your own hand gel. It made my hands so sore.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/10/2025 11:28

Far too much gin.

ZoeyBartlett · 22/10/2025 11:31

A double inflatable Kayak, 2 life jackets and membership of the British Canoe Club to get a licence. Never even been out of the box 😳

NormasArse · 22/10/2025 11:31

A goat yoga kit, complete with inflatable goat…

Appleseason · 22/10/2025 11:37

I got covid and developed pneumonia. I did go to A&E and was always around the 90-92% 02 mark.
I panic bought hand held cans of oxygen, the type people use on skiing holidays.
They probably did nothing but I swore at the time they helped me up and down the stairs. I wasn’t exactly thinking straight, I was very poorly and oxygen deprived.
Other than that nothing. I was self employed and also employed on a zero hours in a different job which relied heavily on tips.
