What was your ludicrous Lockdown purchase?

Mine was a £1000 mini trampoline. I think I've probably used it about 30 times altogether! To be fair it is top quality and lots of fun when I can be bothered to use it. I don't regret it.

What about you?

I think the key word there was 'cardboard'. Grin

(But I SO want a picture)

@StrandedStarfish I love your post!
Thank you so much for your service , our NHS and other critical service workers were and are magnificent ,and we should always remember this.
This thread is so interesting and gives us a snapshot of how people were coping then.

@StrandedStarfish That made me tear up a little bit! I think if anyone's earned the right to swan around in a tiara, you have!

A £200 vacuum cleaner with a shoulder harness.

(i already owned two vacuum cleaners in a tiny 2-bed bungalow)

On the Friday before lockdown , I went to our local M&S and bought a bottle of lavender gin and a bottle of rose gin.
Didnt buy pasta, loo roll-just the gin.
Bought a large inflatable paddling pool for our daughters 10th birthday, she had a great time, on her own-no friends, we sat in it with her ( me, DH, 2 DS’s)
The next morning, i drained it and one of the neighbours cats got in it and scratched it big time, bought some patches off amazon but it never recovered! Think it was around £80?

Ordered a electric cargo bike that holds 4 children in the front box. Just before lockdown I was due to take my driving test. I use it every day for the school run/nursery run. So a good purchase and instant freedom. I paid it off over two years it wasn't cheap but has been invaluable to me.

I still haven't been able to start up driving lessons again. My theory lapsed during lockdown and they didn't extend it for me but for later people they did. It's now super expensive and a mega backlog of the whole driving lesson/test system.

What make? I’ve seen them in Sweden but never here. I want one so I can cycle with the dogs, rather than put them in the car to go for walks further afield.

I just ordered lots of clothes that I didn't need and couldn't wear out.

Then when we were allowed to go out i didn't know how to dress like Outside People so opted to wear it all. I looked like fucking ET dressed as a woman.

This is hilarious! 😂😂😂

I'd forgotten about those. Me and DD took our freshly washed and brushed Bedlington out to the garden and stood him on the ironing board.
He's a very tolerant chap and well used to the groomer.
He was in such state he had long bits short bits, baldy bits.
My mum said he looked like he had had several rounds of chemotherapy.
Fortunately the sainted Gemma opened up for welfare grooms

I love Bedlington terriers! ❤️🐶
Hardly ever see one though.

I found a tin of potatoes and a tin of pumpkin puree in the "lockdown supplies" cupboard in the garage. I need to remember to use the spuds but I have no use for the pumpkin, what was I thinking?
I'm also quietly getting rid of all the horrible badly fitting t-shirts and joggers I bought online and kept because I couldn't be bothered to send them back and order more, and nobody was going to see me in them anyway (and they were comfy!)

@AllTheChaos he got it on the screen😳and I ruined it trying to get it off. 🤢

Oh nooooo! I feel your pain!

Xiaoxiong · 27/10/2025 09:25

@NotbloodyGivingupYet before you chuck the pumpkin, try making this!! It is absolutely delicious. You can make it and then slice and freeze it and toast it slice by slice, or make as muffins.

This is amazing. I absolutely love cats, but they are massive, intentional dicks.

😂

A chimnea. Not that outrageous you might say, but by the time they were back in stock the pandemic was over. We've lit it once.

itsnotalwaysthateasy · 08/05/2026 21:08

I worked for the NHS during covid. I was also single. I decided to buy vibrators, lots of them.
It was ludicrous, but worth while at the time.

I also need a buddy to get rid of them in case I die! 😂

Squirrelchops1 · 08/05/2026 21:14

Re dog grooming
My partner learned how to groom our miniature schnauzer and continued post pandemic. Saves £ 40/50 every 8 weeks.

Yep. A poncy Norwegian thing that cost about £400

Squirrelchops1 · 08/05/2026 21:15

Ooni pizza oven...used once cost £300

DrasticAction · 08/05/2026 21:29

2x small greenhouses and grow bags and salad stuff from garden center.
I think I produced about 5 bitter teeny tomatoes and nothing else for us to live on and be self sufficient

Dreamcatcherat50 · 08/05/2026 21:32

Roller boots! 😂😂😂

No I did not skate around my flat as planned. I couldn't even stand up in them.

Nothing big. Splashed out £££ on a big pack of coloured Sharpies as all the own brand stuff was sold out. They're still going, and treasured, mind you.

My actual, sensible splurge was £400 of Phillips Lumea. My legs have been soft ever since the pandemic. It's saved me so much time and money instead of futile waxing. Paid for itself within a year.

Thanks so much! I didn't realize I could buy a home device for hair removal that actually works! I spent thousands....around 3k in total argh (20 yrs ago) getting professional laser hair removal in a clinic on legs, bikini line, armpits, upper lip and even arms as I've got dark hair and was fed up with waxing as I'd get lots of ingrown hairs....but my teenage daughters are now in the same position and I thought I couldn't afford to help them...... but this sounds like the perfect joint Christmas present!! So grateful you shared this xxx
