Anybody else doing Sober October?

I know there’s been a long running thread for years for dry January but I fancy having a break through October, in preparation for Xmas, give the liver a break beforehand - that is all meant very tongue in cheek 😜

Anyone fancy joining?

Hello! Nice to see you all again, I was hoping some of you would be up for Dry January.

November and December were back into bad habits for me, well done to the soberistas!

Good to see you again @darkmoor - have certainly missed that humour 😄.

I’m with you @Nearlyadoctor, I certainly won’t be missing alcohol this weekend - just wish it would last!

My first day today. This thread really helped when I did November so hoping it does the trick again. I drank a reasonable amount over Christmas so definitely need a reset. Good luck everyone.

Hey everyone, happy new year!
it’s so good to be back; for some reason I nearly didn’t open this thread, silly me!
Its so good to see all your success stories, especially during this tricky time of year - success being LA as well as AF.

With hindsight, I’ve not actually done too badly - the October reset has made a massive, positive difference.
its been a fairly quiet Christmas in terms of socialising, we had a couple of meet-ups with closest friends but stayed pretty sober, not least because the ‘D’H of one of them is an absolute letch & I wanted to be aware of him at all times- funny the motivations one has for being AF & LA!
since then I’ve been hit pretty hard with the “world’s worst cold” that’s going around- another factor that helped in cutting down on the booze!
Looking forwards to keeping in touch & keeping motivated x

Good to see you both 😊, I’m so pleased the thread helped last time @Daffydaffodil25 and lets hope that it does the trick again.

@HotTiredDog it is so good to be back, and you’re right, this time of year is especially hard so any progress is good, whether LA or AF. Sounds like that October reset really paid off, even with everything else going on — and whatever motivation works, works! 😂 Hope the horrible cold eases off soon.

For me it’s day 5 and I’m already noticing some positives. I slept a whooping 10 hours last night and had really vivid dreams again, (although very mundane 😄) and my energy feels noticeably better today, just been for my walk and have come back feeling invigorated, instead of the usual puffed and worn out — a big change after all the Christmas excess of food and alcohol. Early days, but it feels encouraging.

Good luck everyone and let’s keep checking in!

Morning all — how are we doing? Anyone else finding it a bit tough to get back into the swing of things after Christmas?

I’ve noticed that for me, it’s around day four after drinking that the urges really peak. The difference now is that I recognise it for what it is. Knowing what to expect makes it much easier to ride those cravings and let them pass rather than giving into them.

I’m really starting to feel the benefits of these last eight alcohol-free days. It’s surprised me how much of an impact just three nights of drinking over the Christmas week had on my body. My mood dipped, anxiety crept back in, and it’s taken this long for my stomach to finally settle.

Last night, I went back to basics and wrote down my reasons for doing this. I plan to keep updating each week as I notice changes in how I feel. This year, I’d love to build a longer alcohol-free stretch, and I hope that by journaling this will keep me on the straight and narrow!

One day at a time everyone and we’ve got this. 💪

Going well so far. I’ve decided that I’m going to do a dry…er January. I’m going to allow myself a couple of glasses of wine on a Saturday as my goal is to stop the midweek drinking to unwind. Hope everyone is doing well with their goals 😊

I’m in! Went down to the offie today and got AF rum, whisky and wine. Not expecting much from the wine to be honest. Not sleeping well at all the last few days though, hope that settles soon, so tired…

Pleased with myself tonight as my dh and dad had red wine whilst watching traitors and I had an af lager.
