A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

They weren’t before. Very outspoken prior to the tax
They did all the sums and spoke out against Labours tax proving their figures wrong.
Whats changed

( My kids finished at Indi 3 years ago.. so a little out of touch )

All our interactions prior to election and then afterwards, the ISC was wanting a conciliatory tone with Labour to "work with them". They should have come out punching to counteract Labour's lies and gaslighting.
They were ineffective. There should have been a nationwide campaign.

It's nothing short of criminal how this government is systematically taking apart the fabric of the countryside. They are determined to kill off our food security. I sometimes wonder whether it's in some way linked to our new arrangement with the EU, making us more dependent on europe for our food. Colour me cynical😕

Edited

Absolutely agree Upsee
we’ll be totally dependent on other countries for food and energy
and totally screwed if there’s ever a war

Being a fat old farty, I have no kids in the game anymore, but my god I was shocked at the vitriol pouring from some of the posters on MN.It was like reading hundreds of Phillipsons spewing their venom on anyone who dared to consider their child's education worth spending money on.
I'm genuinely saddened that today's education system is so broken. Kids leaving school with the reading age of a seven year old is common here and we're supposed to thank them for that? and don't get me started on indoctrination. Far too many left leaning teachers are allowed to bleed their beliefs into the classroom.

This is Kaya Comer Schwartz, the Deputy Mayor of London for Crime and Policing. -annual salary £147,969.27. It's great to know our capital city is in such capable hands.

The Telegraph is reporting Reeves is considering (i.e., will be) imposing VAT at 20 percent on taxi fares in the next Budget. You could argue people who routinely jump into taxies can afford the increase, but others in rural areas where public transport is scarce are really going to struggle.

I don't think I've ever despised anyone as much as the so-called leaders of this self-serving, arrogant and incompetent government. Every day there's a report about yet another tax hike or new imposition. Where will it end?

It sounds like Reeves is getting very desperate
Tripling the cost of Ofsted for Indis now this

How are these pathetic measures going to actually solve the problem

Whats happened to sorting out the huge and increasing welfare spend ?

Yes this. The utter glee with which some MNetters posted. The dripping, joyful venom. It was absolutely scary tbh.

I have my DCs in a private school and for years have been angry and sorrowful about the state of state schools in my area and in the wider UK. It never occurred to me to think 'fuck the state school parents!! hahahahahha!!!'. I simply don't think like that.

Yet the sheer hatred directed at us shocked me deeply.

The hatred expressed to us over private school VAT fundamentally changed how I see my relationship with UK society, which in turn has fundamentally changed how I feel about contributing high taxes to support others in UK society.

I don't think Labour have any idea what their populist spite has done.

It's not just rural areas. I live on the edge of a city, and there are 4 buses a day in both directions. Otherwise I have to walk a mile to the next bus stop or (wait for it) get a taxi!
This government must think we're stupid. They say they won't put up income tax and NICS for the working man because they want to put more money in his pocket, then tax everything else, in the phrase of Denis Healey 'until the pips squeak'. From chatting with people, including randoms at the bus stop, all they talk about is how much this government is costing them, when are they going to get a grip on the small boat problem and the cost of living.
Some people I know are struggling already, without the added burden of winter fuel costs.
This is a depressed area, one that was benefitting from Boris' levelling up scheme, that was until Labour scrapped them.

Lots of people in my town use taxis to take them home from the supermarkets with their shopping, so relatively short journeys. These are people who can’t afford to or don’t want to own cars, the elderly, disabled etc. This is another tax which will impact the less well-off where there is rubbish public transport to get you to important things like medical appointments.

Yes my 80 Yr old parents use them as my mum has Parkinsons so can't use buses.

Labour will destroy everything for everyone, that's what they mean when they say equality = equally shit for all

JustStopItNorasaurus · 21/09/2025 08:42

yes me too re changing my attitude to society.

We literally went from being committed to the UK for ever and ever (DH is British, I'm not, my kids are dual citizens) to deciding to leave the country. Not multi-millionaires by any stretch, yet net contributors and happy to be so.

DH who never wanted to move from the UK ever, barely wanted to holiday in my home country. Now he is 'we are out'. We have already spoken with real estate agents in my home country and schools near to where my parents live. The current 'plan' is that I will go and househunt after Christmas.

The change in under 2 years is profound. Our entire life will change, our DCs futures will be changing. Because we are bloody sick of being told by this Government and wider society 'You are rich scum, you deserve to be taxed into poverty and beyond, you bastards'.

Absentosaur · 21/09/2025 08:46

VAT on taxi fares. So all those children being taxied around to schools and back home again. We the tax payer pay for those taxis. Number increased since the VAT on education was implemented. The gvt are going to put VAT on taxi fares which means we the tax payers are paying the VAT on those taxi fares even though we’re not using those taxis.

I hate this gvt. Bitter incoherent greedy corrupt nasty hypocrites. 🤢🤢🤢🤢

I wish you all the best with house hunting etc and don't blame you. If we could, we would. They hate us but need our money, I would love it if all the net contributors buggered off and they were left with only the takers. No one to pay for anything and no way of getting more!

I have no interest in society now, my priority is my family and hiding as much money away from government as possible. We have reduced our spend to the absolute minimum, are squirrelling away in tax free options (investing in start ups is a good one) and contributing as little to the economy as possible. Looking at overseas education options for DD and work overseas for DH.

This is what Labour will never understand, their continued onslaught creates behaviour and attitude changes.

My son is looking to move abroad too and I really hope he does. This country, for the moment is not a place to be when you are a single male adult without chidren earning a decent wage. He's by no means in a highly paid job, but by dint of hard work, he is very comfortable. He saves more than he spends, at the moment he's buying sovereigns. But I like the idea of start ups, any info @twistyizzy ? Anything to keep Labour's moneygrubbing hands off his money. We never used to be like this, we were both happy to pay our share, but this government doesn't have a clue on sharing does it?
Good luck to you @JustStopItNorasaurus in your move.
