A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Even worse, went to the market today for a few things, shrinkflation has finally hit hard and hit home... where there were once 6 pikelets for £1.80 there are now only 4! FOUR!!
Seriously though, I'm wondering how much more the economy in general can cope before we see a catastrophe.
I used to do some on-off work for Sunseeker and Perkins. Had to try to work out how to remove baked on fire extinguisher dry powder fom the cylinder head of perkins wolf marine engine.

Assuming by pikelets you mean what I call crumpets ( I had to Google as I thought you meant baby fish 🥴)
6 crumpets Aldi / Lidl 45p

I know it’s not the point you’re drawing attention to.

Ha ha I thought ‘pikelets’ meant mini pike fish. Was puzzled anyone would want any but then imagined they were like white bait.

But crumpets! Much nicer 😂

These little beauties are a locally made delicacy. The nearest I can describe is a freeform crumpet that looks similar to an Amarican pancake, but it's made using a yeasted batter. Currants or sultanas are sprinkled on the top. Much as I have bemoaned the price, they are a treat I can't do without.😁
I did try to post a photo, but MN wasn't having it.

TheNuthatch · 19/09/2025 19:59

Haha. I love pikelets. They are crumpets, but thin 😋.

Are they a northern thing?

Ok. So are there bubbles.

Now I’m going to have to Google a recipe.

Down south we have none of these delicacies 😢

No way! I’m a northerner and we never had / have pikelets. Crumpets, porridge, barm cakes, Eccles cakes, Kendal mint cake, Bakewell puddings (which are nothing like the boxed Bakewell tarts) but not pikelets.. they look nice though! We’ll try them.. 😂

Food of the Gods 😊

We shall save the muffin/bap/roll conversation for another day. Enjoy your teacake.

Absentosaur · 19/09/2025 20:19

My grandma and grandad in Yorkshire always had these ones, which we never had (in Lancashire). Was a treat .
