It won't stop the boats, that's why it's a no

Makes you wonder what people would do if the boats were actually stopped

They’d say it was government lies.

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2025 20:56

Starmer has called Trump's attack on Khan ridiculous nonsense

Blossom hope you are feeling much better & Pointy great news for your Ds on the job front.
im still reeling from the orange ones recent imbecilic rants, many thanks for so many interesting links & discussion, it’s taken me ten bloody minutes typing this out MN still unbearably glitchy so annoying.

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2025 21:06

I carry my driver's license every day. Your mobile phone is a walking talking evidence of identity.

No one ever has demanded my identity on speculation whilst out and about.

But that’s because neither drivers license or mobile phones are compulsory.
If ID cards come in they will be.

There’s no point to them unless the state requires you to show them is there.

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2025 21:18

You can't vote without ID now

That doesn't make sense. When was the last time you applied for employment? You most certainly need ID to be employed.

If you need any sort of benefit, you need a phone.

placemats · 25/09/2025 21:22

Got a bank account app? That's your ID on your phone.

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2025 21:22

Try being a student without ID

Take care and good to hear that the hot water is sorted. Mumsnet has been glitching.

I’m also DBS checked.
Yes I can prove my identity with a passport or and where I live with a bill.BUT
Nothing actually requires me by law to have either of them. Nor a banking app nor a mobile. My choice to make my life easier.

It’s the compulsion that you can’t be citizen without a state ID card that is dystopia.

Citizen ID is and has been around for over 100 years in other countries, in the UK during WW1.

A moot point would be are we citizens in a country without a written Constitution and a Monarchy as head of state - which arguably makes us all subjects to the Crown.

bentneckwine1 · 25/09/2025 21:43

i have Huntington’s Disease - It won’t change things for sister and I.

However for my son, nieces and nephew there is hope of surgery to reduce the symptoms if they diagnosed with the disease

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2025 21:45

There is not liking ID and there is calling it dystopian

Darren Grimes is struggling with it too, in 2022 he said the UK needs ID , now he is calling it people control Confused

So what.
We aren’t other countries. Theres no need to do things that other places do with different politics, histories and issues to us.
I can’t see the issue with being “subjects to the crown” since apart from not eating swans it doesn’t make the blindest difference.

There’s no point to them unless the state requires you to show them is there.

Requires you to show them when you need to prove your identity for eg opening a bank account, starting a job, buying a house, maybe voting. There’s no earthly reason to ask for them otherwise, and it doesn’t happen elsewhere.

Community service taking flags down, at the very least. I'm hoping the council worker want seriously hurt.

Patriotism latest, trying to kill a council worker in Salford 😡

It’s scenes like this which confirm it’s gone way beyond opinion. People actually believe it’s ok to be violent for the cause. What else processes someone to brazenly do that in broad daylight as if it’s “normal and acceptable?”

I hope the council worker is ok?

and I hope those who are doing this because they aren’t happy with money for public services realise they are increasing costs if we need to start sending 2 people to do the jobs of 1 for safety and security.

fucking idiots who we aren’t allowed to call stupid.
