A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Well bugger. Emily Thornberry has pulled out of the race. The two remaining candidates are Starmer supporters. It looks like there's been a similar stitch-up in labourcompetition as there was in the conservative race when Sunak won.

BP got Skiils taken off her in the re-shuffle, I reckon it was for this reason. They knew

Rivalled · 11/09/2025 08:31

Everyone wants to be accepted for having the ‘right’ views these days - people who’ve accepted themselves are far more open to toleration.

the top labour team are reflecting the problem here - absolutely no empathy in any discourse for groups they’re demanding pay more. They seem
to think that makes them look tough but that’s not the kind of toughness people want and looks so partisan.

Bridget Phillipson and Lucy Powell.
Both staunch Starmer babes.

These threads are created with a point of view. The title says so. If you disagree with that point of view, fine. But these threads are mostly temperate and reasonable. I don’t agree with everything written on these threads and posters disagree with me.

If you’re looking for anger, intolerance and conspiracy buy-in (and a good dose of self-regarding Christ complex) you’ll find a lot more of it among the cat botherers on the Starmer threads.

‘Cat botherers’ 😂

Aw I love cats. I have some. I have dogs too. Spiders recently as well it seems, everywhere I look. Even in the car a money spider on the inside mirror yesterday. But cats yes, I do often wonder if all cat lovers (myself included), are in fact cat botherers. The way they look at you sometimes.. as opposed to the sheer devotion from the dogs.

From now on I shall label myself a cat botherer. But a centre - right cat botherer.

Mandelson he’s where all the bodies are buried and Starmer is a weak idiot

Thanks.

Of those two I’d wish for Powell. Marginally more likely to create trouble for Starmer after he sacked her. That said, the grievance and prickly factor is sadly far lower now that Thornberry’s pulled out.

So, as you say, a drab contest between two biddable Starmer supporters.

I usually watch it on Sky catch up. Here's a clip of KB's questions.'
Was PM aware of Mandelson's intimate relationship with Epstein?'

It was always going to be BP. Any notion of competition is a sham.

Parliament - and others probably- put PMQs on YouTube.

Yep and in 1 way I'm pleased. It will expose exactly how horrendous she is ie won't debate/discuss and just sneers at everyone. She's been shielded somewhat so far but there will be nowhere to hide with the Autumn Education stuff + being DL.
Just saying snippy comments aimed at voters she doesn't like isn't going to be enough as DL.

I was equally horrified when Jo Cox was murdered as I am about Charlie Kirk. That's the difference.

Yes. This ^^ All day long.

That's exactly it. It doesn't matter what his political beliefs were. What matters is that he was murdered for them.

I'm so utterly sickened by the apologists that it does actually make me question our social structure. I don't want to share a society with those self-righteous apologists for violence who hate us because they can't manage the slightest flexibility of thought

I don't want to share our economics ups and downs with them. I don't want them in the group I consider 'my people'.

Unfortunately, I also don't see a way to change it. Maybe one day the vision of those science fictions writers will come about, where people create intentional societies which act as nation states do today. But until then, maybe I'll just step away from the debate for a bit. I'm just so sickened.

It does have a whiff of inevitablility about it, doesn't it?

There are a couple of other I was unaware of and know nothing about
Paula Barker and Bell Ribeiro-Addy both back bench MP's.

Rivalled · 11/09/2025 09:07

good good I hope they do anoint BP agree with @twistyizzy shes really unlikely to boost the popularity of the govt either within the party or the country at large. Excellent choice!

Lutonsgirl · 11/09/2025 09:13

I am really looking forward to BP as DL !

It is very disturbing, and shocking to me too. I'm not reading any of the other threads today. Stick with us on here for a bit 💐

I’m so sorry that people have accidentally found themselves watching the awful videos on X. Can I just point out that you can amend your settings so that videos/gifs do not auto play for you.

I can’t remember the exact steps but if you Google “turn off auto play on X” you’ll see what to do.

CruCru · 11/09/2025 09:29

Emily Thornberry is out the running.

And the Times now has a quiz: “Are you better or worse off than a Tube driver?”. I think they are not exactly “with” the strikers.

CaveMum · 11/09/2025 09:41

It’s worth noting that the runner up for the US Ambassador job was George Osborne. Now if Mandy goes and George takes the job, can you imagine the reaction from the arch-Leftists?!

🤣

CaveMum · 11/09/2025 10:02

The Rest is Money are pretty scathing about Mandy on today’s episode. Robert Peston was tweeting some of the excerpt’s from Mandy’s correspondence with Epstein yesterday.

Theyre also doing a deep dive next week into politicians tax affairs with Dan Neidle, off the back of Angela Rayner’s cock up. They will be discussing Farage amongst others…

CaveMum · 11/09/2025 10:05

Speaking of Dan Neidle, he did an interesting thread yesterday on why Labour MPs need to stop banging on about a Wealth Tax.
