A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes I do really like Kemi, same as Sunak though sadly as in right person wrong time.
I know others don't feel the same but when I listen to her she generally makes sense to me.

Same

Same. Sunak was correct too on Labour’s policies.

I like her. And I think the Tories would be mad to force her out. She probably won’t survive the next GE as leader, but the Tories should let her contest it and elect a new leader after that.

Yes and then give her a strong role afterwards. She is an asset to them, just sadly I dont think she will lead them into the election.

Didn't they appoint David Dinsmore as comms - ex Sun editor? I remember when he said the pair of breasts on page 3 represents youth and freshness - this was said when the no more page 3 campaign was fighting them. Thought he was a massive idiot then, doubt he's changed.

Still only "working people" though eh 🙄?

And only the right kind of working people.

Working full time isn't sufficient for Labour to fight for you. If your salary is high enough that you are a net tax contributor rather than a net recipient, then you're the enemy.

But 'we're fighting for state-dependent people and against those who financially support them' isn't the warrior-for-justice image they're looking for.

That’s very nicely put.

Why should losing a general election - at a time when the party is struggling - mean the leader has to go?

Neil Kinnock fought and lost 2 elections before Labour decided he was unelectable.

Kemi Badenoch is much better - and more electable - than him.

I would have liked Sunak to stay too, but he was too close to Boris Johnson... and Johnson was too close in everyone's memory! I don't think Badenoch is.

Rivalled · 10/09/2025 13:14

Kemi’s getting into her stride more - she needs to take more of Osborne’s advice and get some of the better conservative ministers from previous years to advise. Anything could still happen.

yes William Hague writes great insightful Times articles - someone else who got the call at a terrible time.

Isn’t Peter Mandelson gay? It’s embarrassing that he was pals with Epstien, but it’s highly unlikely he was sexually assualting underage girls.

Thing is, regardless of his sexuality, he must have been well aware of Epstein's proclivities, especially as he stayed mates with him after Epstein was charged and jailed for sex trafficking and paedophilia.
Mandelson has always been a seedy sod and quite honestly he's the last person we need as Ambassador to the USA. I'm amazed Trump agreed to his appointment, unless he has some dirt on Mandelson from the Epstein years to use against him.

Oh I agree with that. Depending on the outcome of the next GE - and I’m more confident about the Tories’ fortunes than some - and depending on whether Badenoch wants to carry on, I’d be all for her staying in place.

But there are a lot of vicious schemers in the Tory party (as there are in all parties).

For now the opposition doesn’t need to do very much anyway. Labour’s rank stupidity, incompetence, dishonesty and hypocrisy are all doing their opponents’ jobs for them.

I hope to God the Tories do get their act together but I fear it's all still too raw with the public (and quite rightly in many ways). They probably need another term out of power to do the disassociation with Boris etc

Thankfully, Graham Brady, the worst schemer of all has been promoted to the House of Lords but there are still some spiteful folk who like nothing better than to cause trouble. Until the conservative party get to grips with them and the 1922 committee (one of the worst ways to confirm a leader) is disbanded I fear the conservatives will always be at odds with each other.

If this government lasts the full term, then the Tories still have time to get their act together before 2029.

If Labour tanks the economy (especially if IMF intervention is needed) then I'd think that the Tories may well go up in the polls anyway, so even if that forces a GE, they'd do better than polls suggest at present.

Plus, they'd saying 'don't interrupt your enemy whilst they're making a mistake' holds true here given the pig's ear Labour are making of just about everything right now!

Rivalled · 10/09/2025 13:56

I don’t think it needs to reach IMF status - they need some real successes, nobody has faith their lives are going to improve so far despite them claiming they’re behind wage growth…

upseedaisee · 10/09/2025 14:21

Starmer has said he has complete confidence in Peter Mandelson. The last 4 members of his cabinet he had complete confidence in resigned! So we can but hope it's another kiss of death!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 10/09/2025 14:27

I’ve just watched Badenoch v Starmer at PMQs.

He got a right pasting. When she gets it right (and I think her clothes are better for the occasion now too, so far as it matters) Badenoch has real force. It’s was like a whiny schoolboy being carpeted by the Headmistress.

He really is an uninspiring twat, Starmer. His sign off about patriots was so shit and embarrassing, my toes turned my flats into Turkish slippers.

Haha good write up.

I just heard the end of a headline that said Labour were in pained silence throughout.

Yes Kemi was brilliant today. We need more of that from her, and we need to see her speak to the press more often. She needs to get the telegraph and the mail back in her corner imo.

Starmer did his usual sneering and slithering, but his back benches didn't look impressed or inspired did they? He looked pathetic.

Go on Kemi 🔥

@EasternStandard It's worth watching today's PMQs. I know you can't stomach it usually, but today was a win.

I’ll take a look. Whenever dh wants to show me stuff I always say hang on will it make me annoyed, is it bad for Starmer? Oh ok then I’ll take a look 😬

Which reminds me he showed me an old clip of Corbyn being heckled in HoC where someone calls out ‘who are you’ to something about meeting other leaders. The timing was brilliant. So funny, back when HoC wasn’t this much of a sneering loss

(not picking on Corbyn I don’t mind him that much these days)

😂 my dh is careful with what he shares with me also. Today was great, promise. Starmer looked shorter when Kemi had finished with him. No cheers from behind him either.

I remember that Corbyn moment. I felt quite sorry for him at the time, but it was funny.
