A property tax would be brutal for many of us, if all the other taxes stayed the same, but I do think overall it's a fairer way of doing things. In the US, they have this, but their other taxes are different too, so while property tax is a big one, the overall tax burden ends up being lower than it is here.
When it comes to council tax, I discovered that the value of homes in England is based on their value on 1st April 1991. Isn't that crazy? Did you even know that? The home we live in didn't even exist in 1991 and, needless to say, the value is massively more than it was 34 years ago.
