A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It’s awful isn’t it. Some of those posts on the deleted thread were just sickening. It’s very worrying to see all
this.

Kemi B on X

^There are no words good enough to express the horror of this.

The killing of Charlie Kirk is a blow to everything Western civilization stands for: open discourse, robust debate and peaceful dissent. He lived his life by those very principles, no matter the danger it put him in.

This may have happened far from our shores, but the rising intolerance of opposing views affects us all. We cannot turn a blind eye to it.

My thoughts are with Charlie’s family, his wife Erika, and their children.^

From the so-called tolerant left…

Interested in this thread?

Whilst large parts of the west tear themselves apart over non-issues such as whether a male can legitimately identify as a female, Xi and Putin are attempting to reshape the ‘world order’.

We are already at war, in a sense - it’s only a function of time before it properly breaks out imho.

One wonders whether western societies will prove strong enough to survive - given how divided they have become.

We need strong leadership - not weak men masquerading as strong men.

And more of it is left to stand on the newer thread. As if a violent death is apt penance for heretical opinions. I think it is quite frightening to see just how bloodthirsty they are and how exciting they find it all - and all while they shine their halo.

twistyizzy · 11/09/2025 07:27

I don't condone or argee with any of his comments but equally he leaves a family behind and this is supposed to be a parenting site ffs!
The Left would be going off it if the situation was reversed yet some of them are openly saying "good" to it and worse.
Some posters on MN need to go away and have a hard look at themselves.

@MorningLarkEchoes
"From the so-called tolerant left…". None of the vocal Left claiming posters on here are tolerant of any views which don't identically match their own. That is my experience and observation on MN, I accept some may be and I haven't come across them, but from general experience on MN, they are the complete opposite of tolerant.
This site was horrific before and during the election and has got worse.

Where on this particular thread do you ever see tolerance of different view points? It's just seeing who can shout the loudest with the odd conspiracy theory thrown in for good measure.

Take Out the Trash Day, for WW fans.

Definitely feeling I need to crack on with this book as some of the responses to Charlie Kirk’s (who I believe held some repugnant views) murder have been insane.

We do have differing opinions and they rub along fine. Off the top of my head, I know some are pro and others anti reform, some are excited about Your Party and other are dreading it (me), some are concerned about population decline (me) and others think it can be managed with new technologies, some think we should radically reform welfare and others think it should be managed more slowly. It's not that we don't have differing opinions we just don't have a bloody knife fight over it.

This thread was created specifically because of lack of tolerance/personal attacks during and after the election for anyone who didn't support Labour.
It was a 'safe space' for posters to express views other than those being expressed on every other thread on MN at the time.
Many of us on here has personal attacks etc from vocal Left posters. The accusations of "Tory bot" etc were endemic and used to shut down any debate.
This thread was a chance to discuss views other than, what was at the time, the mainstream MN left viewpoint. Obviously as time has gone on the majority view has swung the other way as Labour have proven themselves to be incompetent. But from around Jan- Dec of 2024 you simply weren't allowed any opinion other than "Labour are perfect" from many.

Same. Although I can’t help thinking many people that need to read it, won’t. Of course.

Agreed. I was called a bot and told to fck off etc etc etc. Vitriolic, tolerant left..

Yep: Bot, twat, fuck off were common attacks. The mainstay was the "we are more intelligent than you" attitude which still prevails.

That's not fair. We show tolerance by not having a go at each other when we disagree. That's tolerance in my book.
I have completely different opinions to others on this thread about welfare reforms for example. But you won't see me arguing with anyone over it.
I was equally horrified when Jo Cox was murdered as I am about Charlie Kirk. That's the difference.

As what some would call a “shy Tory” I’ve found this thread to be nothing but accepting so far. I’ve stated my point about my abhorrence for Farage and his ilk and at no stage has anyone demanded I be burned at the stake.

I’d recommend the aforementioned mentioned book to our plopper as perhaps then they might understand that it is the Left that lacks tolerance on the whole.

These threads are created with a point of view. The title says so. If you disagree with that point of view, fine. But these threads are mostly temperate and reasonable. I don’t agree with everything written on these threads and posters disagree with me.

If you’re looking for anger, intolerance and conspiracy buy-in (and a good dose of self-regarding Christ complex) you’ll find a lot more of it among the cat botherers on the Starmer threads.

Yes we’re a world away from this stuff, the pp doesn’t agree with the views here which is up to them, no one is ‘shouting’ either, it’s a good natured thread.

upseedaisee · 11/09/2025 08:29

Well bugger. Emily Thornberry has pulled out of the race. The two remaining candidates are Starmer supporters. It looks like there's been a similar stitch-up in labourcompetition as there was in the conservative race when Sunak won.

Yes. This ^^ All day long.
