A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I had high hopes that Streeting might deliver some of his plans for the NHS. It was to be the one thing that made the rest of the inevitable palatable. <Sigh>

Same

He was doing pretty well until he couldn't find any more dead people or patients who gave up and went private to cut off the list.

Beat me to it!

Starmer has got to go reeves too oh jeez that leaves Phillipson with top job or Lambsie
as a side note has anyone watched conservatives city hall on Facebook ? For the love of god the deputy £150k a year is completely inept it’s worth a watch just to be incredulous

EasternStandard · 12/09/2025 07:36

Incredible. Labour won’t be going on about ‘fastest growth’ or whatever.

I was one of those patients who gave up and went private.

On the rise in taxes etc. Just a small example from the literally thousands of businesses out there. The kennel where we board our dogs and cats when on holiday is closing. Brilliant kennel, absolutely top notch. Been operational for years. They close from October. The cost of living, the cost of utilities, the rise in NI etc etc etc mean they simply cannot keep it as a going concern. It's a family business, husband and wife, their two adult daughters and SILs plus another 4 staff. That's 10 people out of a job now. I asked what they were doing and the wife said she has managed to pick up a part time job cleaning the local primary school in the morning but otherwise they are not sure.

What a waste. And yet another example of how Labour is incapable of seeing to the logical conclusions of their fiscal policies. Under another user name I have been on many a thread about VAT on school fees. Our school - which is the single largest employer in our area- has cut staff already by 10% as a straight cut (mainly contract staff like cleaners, grounds staff, music teachers etc) and have warned that they are unlikely to replace staff when people retire or leave.

I feel utterly helpless about the path this country is taking.

It's absolutely batshit but if you read up on Fabianism then managed decline is how they go about their revolution.
That's why I say it's all on purpose, it isn't just down to incompetence.

Think for a lot for businesses the NI rose came after very tough years with runaway inflation and struggling to maintain a product price that would sell…

Why aren’t any of the political podcasts talking about the failures in life science and pharmaceutical investments? They’re racking those up.

It's horrific how Labour ars killing of pharma etc investment in the UK. In fact it's criminal.
DH worked for 1 of the big pharma orgs until last month when he was made redundant because they are pulling 90% of their operation out of the UK. That's around 20K jobs + the tax they pay.

upseedaisee · 12/09/2025 08:03

I had a sneaking feeling this would happen. It all looked a bit fishy that Reeves has delayed the budget until the last possible day allowed.
Her own fiscal rules may well be blown out the water. This budget is going to be painful in ways made of nightmares.

Rivalled · 12/09/2025 08:07

Reeves is gambling on retail sales saving her. @twistyizzy this should be getting so much more attention from commentators, alongside the debt doom spiral, ridiculous tax regime we’re racking up losses in previous industry strengths.

TheNuthatch · 12/09/2025 08:13

Good morning 😁

Awful news (again) on the economy. Sad to hear of another good family business going under. We can all see what is happening in our day to day lives, and then we see Starmer on TV saying he's fixed the foundations and created jobs. Just fuck off Starmer.

This. The business my son works for had forecast a 6% pay rise for 2025. After the Reeves budget, they downgraded it to 2% and also that there would be a new contract that started people on minimum wage (they were £1.80) above and there would be no shift uplift for earlies and lates. It's quite shocking. This is a multinational company and the worry is they will simply abandon this country, move the work back to Norway and Austria and ship over products direct.
Thanks Reeves. All the bullshit about quality jobs and extra money in workers pockets are lies.

Yep. He and Reeves keep lying. It’s gaslighting

@twistyizzy i just can’t get my head around Fabienism how does managed decline lead to revolution in their ideological way ?
I just despise these people I wish they would implode quickly
the other thing I was thinking after driving home last night social media has given a voice to everyone and let’s be honest most people are not that interesting. Who cares what you think you’re not that important? Just get on with your life do your best and live a good life but all of a sudden everyone is on the Truman show and we are reaping the rewards of such a social experiment. Every fruit loop is given a platform. I think tomorrow’s march is going to be tense

@TheNuthatch but is he going further and faster I hope he has to answer the questions about Mandy today. At Burghley last week I was looking around and thinking this is England at its finest surely there must be enough people who think like that it can’t be decline all the way

Because they believe in "quiet" revolution ie destroy structures from within rather than take to the streets to overthrow government
