Sleeping nude vs pjs

What’s your preference - and why?

my sister told me she sleeps every night in pjs (and underwear!!)!

She was flabbergasted I sleep completely naked. I love a bedtime bath/shower all clean then climbing into bed.

I lounge around the house in pjs but just don’t sleep in them.

we were both brought up by the same mum who dressed us in nightdresses every night so I can’t even think when I stopped sleeping in pjs

everyone else??

Oh no, pyjamas and knickers. If DDs BF is staying I sleep in a bra too. Incase of emergency.
But I've got a whole strange routine about over night though.
I'm told fresh pj's each night for everyone is strange. I'm told that ensuring they have their complete pj set that matches is weird (for example if their top gets wet, the top doesn't get changed, its a whole outfit change. And I get so anxious I can't sleep if the boys pj's don't match. They have exactly the same outfits, day-night, sleeping, swimming, playing.

I started off with just doing things the "right" way before bed, and it spiralled!

You sleep in a bra in case of emergency? what do you mean by that?, what kind of emergency requires you to be wearing a bra? 😂

mamagogo1 · 09/09/2025 14:34

Nothing unless camping when in do wear jogging bottoms and old t shirt for inevitable trips to the loo. I do have an en-suite at home though which makes a difference. I own a nightdress for staying at other people’s houses for trips to bathroom

Naked sleeper here. Can’t bear anything riding up or getting twisted. DC are the same. It would have to be really cold for us to put clothes on to sleep - we just use extra blankets if needed

deckchairmayhem · 09/09/2025 14:43

Wearing clothes to bed is sooo Victorian.
Snuggling up together naked is just lovely.

snemrose · 09/09/2025 14:44

We all put clothes on before using the bathroom or getting up in the morning though. A wee in the middle of the night is done naked but chances of us all meeting each other on the landing naked at 1am are minuscule.
When it was really really hot a few years ago I put a sheet on the sofa and opened the lounge windows as it was far too hot upstairs. Any burglar who climbed through the window and saw a middle aged naked woman on the sofa would have run a mile 🤣

Always nude, can't sleep with clothes on. I'm amazed the number of people wearing knickers and even bras to bed. I hope the knickers are 100% cotton or there's going to be some hideous yeast issues going on. 😖 As for a BRA....I don't even wear a bra round the house most days, let alone to BED.

Absolutely couldn't sleep in a pair of trousers! In the winter I wear a camisole style nightie, nothing in the winter. I don't own pyjamas and neither does my husband. We wear clothes until we go to bed, I find the concept of sitting around in nightwear rather odd.

Always knickers. Just with a vest top in height of summer but most of the time in a t shirts and pyjama bottoms with a cuffed ankle so they don't ride up my legs.

I never slept naked growing up at home so wearing pyjamas is what is normal for me. Plus if I have to get up in the night for a wee I don't want to be wandering the landing completely naked. I'd also be freezing in winter!

DH just sleeps in boxers. Sleeping with no underwear on would feel completely weird to me.

What happens if you get your period in the night? You just stain the sheets and mattress? 😱 I have endometriosis and very heavy periods so if I know it's due I wear a pad in my knickers to bed just in case.

I have never taken my period during the night. I didn’t even know this was a thing haha!

Knickers and pyjamas, always. Otherwise my fanny lips stick to my legs.

You must have incredibly long fanny lips !

Do you thought your period just stops at night ?

As a young woman I'd sleep naked or just in pants but since then even when it's hot I wear pyjamas. I too like a matching set and I always had my DS in a matching set when he was small.

But then I really feel the cold so it has to be really hot for me to just wear a short set of pyjamas.

Sassylovesbooks · 09/09/2025 19:15

I wear just knickers in bed. I find nightwear too restrictive but I don't like being completely naked.

Naked. I couldn’t sleep with any form of pjs/nightdress or underwear. I find it so uncomfortable. I hate the feeling of it all twisting up and legs rising on the pj bottoms

This.
Pyjama legs ride up and the top gets twisted every time you roll over - I can't be doing with it.

Like you op I have PJ's to hand for slobbing around, and for when I'm away from home (never sleep naked in a hotel room - it's too easy to wander sleepily out the door when intending to go to the loo!)

GentleSheep · 09/09/2025 19:29

T-shirt, PJ bottoms and socks. I get cold otherwise, even in summer!

I sometimes wear a non-wired bra to bed. I've got massive knockers and at some points in my cycle, maybe for about two weeks out of every month, they cause me a lot of discomfort if they're not supported. If I'm wearing a bra/bralette I wear knickers as well as wearing a top but having a bare bum just makes me feel slightly ridiculous. I don't suffer from 'yeast issues' at all.

For those who say 'I need to wear pyjamas in case I get up for the bathroom in the night' or 'I like to sleep in pyjamas so I don't have to get dressed to go and make my morning coffee / answer the door to the postman'... do you not own a bathrobe or dressing gown or anything, then? I just go to the bathroom starkers when I sleep naked, as there's only me and DP in the house, but if I needed to get up and make a drink or answer the door my robe's hanging right there on a hook on my bedroom door and takes about a quarter of a second to put on as I'm leaving the room.

Obviously fine for people to wear whatever they want in bed; whatever works for people is all good. I just don't think that sleeping naked means people have to get dressed every time they get out of bed.

Not since the heat-wave of 1976 when, as a 10 year old struggling to get to sleep in the heat, Mum and Dad suggested that my birthday suit would make more appropriate nightwear for the duration. It did, and still does!
