Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

I don't get those images from my Twitter followers, I would have to search for it.

Blimey placemats, what are you implying?

No, not from people I follow!

It seems the mother had an open Facebook account which people grabbed photos from. God knows how they found it. I think Musk has been posting too, though I haven't looked at his account.

placemats · 12/09/2025 15:42

The problem is that it's one rule for us and another rule for them.

What do you mean, placemats? Sorry if being dense.

Implying nothing. It's just that if I want to find out about it, I personally would having to search.

I had to leave bluesky because a maga type consistently followed me and sent messages. No matter how many times I reported it, it happened again.

More belated birthday and anniversary good wishes to Piggy and Sheep.

My youngest started in their new SN provision this week. Transitions are always very hard and I've been dreading September for most of the year. But the staff have done such a great job at smoothing the path for all the new starters. I'm so grateful. A small but important step forward for the smallest Stair (Step). Cheers ☕

I’m really pleased it’s gone well.

As pastoral and behavioural in a SEND school I’m really passionate about doing what’s needed and support being proactive rather than reactive.

Posting this with a trigger warning- an absolutely hideous incident. But it cannot and should not be ignored.

That’s sickening

Ah, right. Yes,

I did search the shooter's name. Unsurprisingly, a lot of stuff is being posted, how much of it is true is obviously debatable. I am sure more will come out in the coming days from official sources. Though I bet the likes of the Mail will be reproducing the Facebook photos.

His poor family.

placemats · 12/09/2025 16:06

He doesn't care about his family. Which is horrible to think about. @PandoraSocks

DuncinToffee · 12/09/2025 16:31

Not just the Mail, BBC is doing a 'verify' on his SM posts

I missed this, this morning. Glad it's going well. A good team makes so much difference.

DS2 started college, last week. The autism provision he's in is fantastic but it's part of a big, faceless, FE college and they insist that the young people in this provision go through all the same enrolment steps as all the other students. That was a hellish 2 hours and he was good for nothing within the first 20 minutes. At his tutor's suggestion I ended up writing a very long email outlining all the problems this caused for him and why. Heck, by the end of the morning, even some of the parents were ready to melt down!

He's settling in, though the 3 day week is taking some getting used to. Lots of tics and obsessive behaviours. 😵‍💫

dontcallmelen · 12/09/2025 18:24

Pickachew so infuriating simple steps could have & should have been taken which probably would have avoided the extra stress & pressure I hope he settles & feels more comfortable very soon 💐

dontcallmelen · 12/09/2025 18:30

That quote from Farage is a bit rich as that’s his modus operandi the hateful charlatan.

Oh goodness, a 2 hour enrolment would have finished DD off - and certainly would have led to issues for the next few days. I'm glad you've contacted them. That should be an easy fix if they are willing to engage.

itsgettingweird · 12/09/2025 20:22

Makes such a difference when they listen to parents.

I think having a disabled ds and having had failed placements I see it from parents POV when we have pupils start with us.

Parents are your best resource when it comes to meeting the needs of children with send - we’ve usually figured it out the hard way!

His tutor said the autism facility has been asking for their own enrolment session for years and it's been falling on deaf ears. I think they have that commonly held attitude of "well it's not a special needs world. They just need to learn to cope."

I ended up taking him on the bus to Morrisons and pretending to be enthusiastic about all the different flavours of jam and marmalade, afterwards, as a bit of something soothing for him. It was obvious that he was rattled because he declared that they all had milk in 🙄 (he's inherited my lactose intolerance and knows that he has to be careful with milk)

It's certainly not a SN world. (I'll bet you can hear my sigh across the keyboards) But that doesnt mean we can't do better towards lowering unncessary barriers. DD loves a supermarket run, it just takes a really long time to get around - she has a new found love of BB dates!

@itsgettingweird - I think it cuts both ways. School staff can often bring a fresh perspective, particularly as children become young adults. I veer towards overprotective, sometimes DD needs people who can see beyond what would otherwise be narrow parameters.

Thought I'd drop this here for people interested in how we got here

Fascinating.
But the speed of change over the last two hundred years seem particularly intense.

Absolutely, @Notonthestairs - I'm fairly quiet and reserved but pretty fierce where the boys are concerned because if I don't speak up for them, who will?

@itsgettingweird DS2's school staff were so good at listening and observing but we've also learnt that he will do things we never expected of him if he's surrounded by his peers doing the same. Except eat fruit and veg, of course 😂

DH and I are going to the Wigan Diggers Festival tomorrow and I have just seen this on their website from the band who are headlining. They wrote it in 2017 apparently, but it seemed very relevant with all that is going on today. We must remember who we are and it is not about flags

Merry Hell are amazing @Evenstar ! Have the best time ❤️

Been avoiding MN pretty much lately, total racist binfire. Off to walk up a hill this morning that gives a fine view of an area with a rich industrial heritage, powered in part by people from other countries we invited to come and work here. That their descendants might be scared to go into their nearest city centre today is abhorrent.

PandoraSocks · 13/09/2025 08:35

Guardian is sharpening its knives. I would like to see Burnham as leader, but then again I don't want Labour to end up like the Tories either, with a revolving door of PMs.
