Starmer never was the popular choice, it s getting all a bit sensationalist from the Guardian.

Given how the press have dug up everything they can find on several other politicians, I’m guessing that means they actually can’t find any dirt on Starmer. Even the glasses and football tickets were legal and fully declared.
The public and the press will never be happy with anyone else either, so there’s no point changing leader.
The press just want someone they can make new headlines about as the Starmer story well is fully wrung out now.
I’d actually quite like a period of politics so very dull that there aren’t any headlines worth writing, we used to have news about other things but the 24 hour news cycle needs feeding constantly.

The media are missing the bad days of the Tories in which every day seemed to bring a new scandal. They cannot bear a temperate stable government so have to foment non existent trouble.

Notonthestairs · 13/09/2025 09:48

I don’t think we can overlook the last couple of weeks - there has been drama.

Sadly for the media they didn’t do the ‘protective ring around the Pritster/Raab/Big Dog’ thing and drag it out for longer.

I agree I want some dull workmanlike government. Unfortunately we’ve got more titting about and navel gazing to go with the conferences.

@Evenstar that's a lovely song, I do love England, it's my home now. Have a great day!

SerendipityJane · 13/09/2025 10:39

It's odd that with Rayner gone, there are fresh moves to replace Starmer

DuncinToffee · 13/09/2025 11:10

That is a lovely story

My mum loved the Sissi films with Romy Schneider

I was taught by a Sister Mary Rita maths and she was lovely. It's a great story and all power to their elbows.

Inspired by another thread, I wonder if using the US as a demonstration of what a country founded by tax dodgers looks like after a while might provoke a Reform backlash ?

placemats · 13/09/2025 11:15

Recent local councillor elections suggest that Reform has lost the momentum.

Sadly not in the Vale where one got elected to a Barry seat this week. But maybe overall. Hope so.

BBC News seems stuck at three hours ago. Guess nothing else is happening.

I see what you did there 😀

I am not in London but the weather is very changeable here today.

We have had sunshine, a monsoon, thunder and lightening, beautiful rainbows and now it’s sunny and cloudy again.

South coast here.

It’s not cold though. I’m wearing shorts and a jumper!

Seems to be a theme here atm whereby shorts, jumper sunglasses and umbrella are all required! (At once!)

cardibach · 13/09/2025 11:37

Chilly here but a got a load of washing almost dry outside before the rain came. Was supposed to rain all morning but that didn’t happen. Sky looking pretty dark now though. SE Wales.
what time is the festival of racists - sorry, concerned citizens - due to start?

Their live blog is, waiting for something perhaps?

I saw this post

People say the BBC lack flexibility in the modern digital era, but the launch and roll out of their 24 hour Charlie Kirk News channel in a matter of hours was pretty impressive.

London is going to be a nightmare. Virtually every major London team is playing in London today, too. The Met and Transport police will be stretched.

bombastix · 13/09/2025 11:47

I think it’s less get rid of Starmer than Starmer is being told to get rid of Morgan McSweeney by the PLP.

But unless Starmer stops hiding, and starts talking to his backbenchers, this kind of chat is going to grow and grow.

The only fixed points in a chaotic year for this government has been Morgan McSweeney and Rachel Reeves. Both of them have put in poor performances. Why do they still have jobs?

I don’t think I have ever seen a direct challenge to a Labour PM in government. Starmer would have to have alienated a huge element of his colleagues to do this. It’s not that he can’t lead because he was an effective leader in opposition. So what gives?

Looks like maybe the world has run out of novelty ?

Surely should be Five Garage Farage?
