As long as I can remember, there has been an attempt by some to push the notion that "freedom of speech" means "freedom from consequences".
And it's taken many generations, but what with the madey uppy trans debate, and a populist press we are nearly there. Although, I think in a way, we never left. I mean libel actions have never been open to all, especially when it comes to defending them.
And SLAPP has made it dangerous to speak freely about some people.
Add to that our increasingly curated internet (who knows what the OSA is hiding from you ?) and we probably have less freedom of speech whilst simultaneously never had so many people have so many platforms on which they can air their views.
