A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Afternoon all, we have all the fog here today, just perfect for the Christmas lights trail we're off to shortly.
Work and school done for the year now, thank heavens.
Dh and I have wrapped presents, bit more to go but it's not Christmas Eve so we're already ahead!
I do need to consider food shopping, apparently M&S opens at 6am tomorrow, I want the amazing chocolate pinecones but not that much!
Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/12/2025 20:34

Happy Sunday. ☺️
Nothing to report here, really. Laundry last night after getting home with dc after a rainy day out. Baby's coat, rain pants, gloves and boots were dirty from laying on and playing on the ground in the dirt and gravel by train tracks. 😵‍💫🤦‍♀️

Two events yesterday: went to Maplewood farm in North Vancouver to see Santa, the animals and have a walk around. Then drove to Port Moody for the Holiday train that travels across the country. I had never heard about it until '23 when I took Havoc, missed it last year, but remembered how difficult parking was, so we arrived just before 4pm. Train was scheduled to arrive at 5:15, but pulled in around 4:50. It stayed an hour even though it was only meant to stay about 30 minutes. The Barenaked Ladies were the performers.

Is that all of you off till new year @RunningKatie? Hope the fog lifted for the light trail. I agree about driving in the Peak District - I wouldn't do it in the dark either! Stunningly beautiful area though 😍

You have such stamina @Mumtobabyhavoc! Honestly I don't know how you do it. I bet Havoc and Baby had a lovely day 😊

We are fully decorated here now. Simply, but it's festive, and DH and I had a giggle doing it. The tree looks quite a lot like a six year old did it, but it looks pretty with coloured lights on. The littles will like our nativity scene because it's wooden so they can play with it.

I need to give the tv table a dust and polish. Currently it's a dust and sticky fingers combination on glass. And I intend to deal with the kitchen windowsill as that becomes a dumping ground too.

Hope all is well with everyone 💕

Peridot1 · 22/12/2025 11:19

Hello all. Hope everyone isn’t too frazzled.

I agree with @WinterFrogs that you have so much stamina @Mumtobabyhavoc!

Your Christmas decorations sound lovely @WinterFrogs. I’m done with ours. Only thing I have left to do is to try to cut some holly to put in the jug on the island in the kitchen. Maybe.

We were out at a 70th birthday party in the village yesterday which was lovely but I was a bit fragile when I woke up this morning. So I am a bit slow today….

I have done the dishwasher and have some washing in. About to clear out the fridge and make some soup. Smug soup obviously. Might also make the stuffing for Christmas. I need to pop to the post office too to send off some returns. And I’d like to make a start on present wrapping. I managed to give out some of the village Christmas cards yesterday but still have some to do.

Other than that not planning on doing much at all. Have a great day everyone.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 22/12/2025 11:51

Morning all

Frazzled over here and running on adrenaline 😭

Today is the last day for us to get stuff done so rushing rushing rushing

Love to you all ❤️😫❤️

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 22/12/2025 12:18

Hi all. Still working today and H making a valiant attempt at not keeping my D underfoot. Will try to finish a bit early though. Grocery delivery has arrived, thankfully with no substitutions, and goose for Christmas day has been collected. Off from tomorrow with a trip to London with the family.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2025 19:33

Happy frantic Monday everyone. 😂
I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what I've forgotten. I think it is feeling unsettled that I haven't finished selecting baby's pictures for birthday picture wall.
😵‍💫

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 22/12/2025 20:00

I must share my unexpectedly exciting afternoon - was waiting for some paperwork from my home country to arrive in the post, to combine with some I had here and then send off ASAP to the consulate. It landed on my doorstep just after 4.30, so I rushed to the post office where the cutoff for next day tracked posting was 5pm... Friends, my turn at the counter was at 4.59!!!! 🫠 TRIUMPH. The van driver from the Royal mail was literally standing next to the counter waiting for this last sack of mail. What. A. Relief.!

SunnyViper · 22/12/2025 20:55

Hi all. I hope your week has started well. @SingleThreadJoiner2 thats great timing! I’ve spent most of the day doing little as a cold has finally caught up with me. I had my last singing gig last night and my voice just about held out😂. Luckily most things are sorted apart from a bit of wrapping so I can just relax and recover for a couple of days 😁.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2025 21:50

All pics selected. 😅
I just need to get them printed then will edit as I put the collage for each month together.

autumnangel · 23/12/2025 09:48

Good morning all, I finished up work yesterday for a few days and now I feel like I can breathe just a tiny bit. Today’s plan is to finish the Christmas shopping. I've got a list and I'm not coming home until it's all bought as there is no way I'm shopping tomorrow. I also need to collect a parcel, get some food shopping in, renew my library books (done ✅) and send some texts to people I have been thinking of a lot lately.
Hope everyone has a stress free day

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/12/2025 10:21

Sounds productive Autumn. ☺️

I spent the evening finishing wrapping. I needed to add bows and ribbon, tags and then wrap baby's birthday presents. It too about two hours. 🤦‍♀️ But. I am definitely done.
I just need to put everything out once dc are asleep Christmas Eve.
My milk frother bit it yesterday. I contacted the company and they are sending a new one. That's great, but it is a replacement for the replacement. Yep. It will be the third one. 🙄
I will try and get one tomorrow as well for the interim.
I'm also planning to get dc out for a couple more Christmassy things and need to do a grocery shop. I rook the lamb chops and duck out of the freezer and put them into the fridge. The lamb is for Christmas Eve and the duck for Christmas Day. The forecast is showing a chance of snow at 7am, but no precip for the afternoon, so should be able to take dc out. 🤞

petalpower · 23/12/2025 15:59

Festive greetings from Petal Towers! It has taken me over a fortnight to get over the bug I had (flu?) and finally feel like eating again. Good for losing a few pre-Christmas pounds but not very good for energy levels. I think we’re just about ready for Christmas . The shopping has arrived with only one sub, the greengrocers order has been fetched, the turkey arrives tomorrow and presents are wrapped.

autumnangel · 23/12/2025 16:16

Yay for the replacement @Mumtobabyhavoc fingers crossed it's third time lucky.
Glad to hear you're feeling better @petalpower it seems most people are coming down with this flu

I’ve made it back from the shops in one piece. My goodness it is crazy out there. I’m waiting on one parcel being delivered tonight and I am done! I’m going to finish my wrapping now, sort all the bags and put some out in the shed until Boxing Day.
Tonight’s plan is to have ‘Christmas chips’ for dinner tonight - chippy chips, roast chicken, pigs in blankets and gravy. I am so excited! I’m going to find something Christmassy to watch and go through the tv magazine.

Peridot1 · 23/12/2025 17:24

Festive felicitations to you all.

@SingleThreadJoiner2 - your post office trip sounds like such perfect timing!

Glad you are feeling better @petalpower.

@autumnangel - your Christmas chips sounds yummy! Might have to bear that in mind for next year.

I have wrapped most presents. Just need to do chocolates and Prosecco and a card with cash for the cleaner. Although the tape didn’t want to stick to the paper for DS’s presents this afternoon - I’m not dignifying it with the title sticky tape. So his presents will likely unwrap themselves by Christmas!

I think I’m at the stage where if it’s not done it’s not getting done. Tomorrow is a general tidy up. The cleaner is in so the bathrooms will be done and she will vacuum upstairs. I’ll do downstairs.

The supermarket shop arrived this morning and everything that should have arrived arrived.

Nice quiet evening planned. Hope it’s all quiet and peaceful for everyone.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/12/2025 23:17

MERRY CHRISTMAS YA FILTHY ANIMALS

FROM NYC TIMES SQUARE!!! 😁😁😁😁😁

I didnt dare tell another living soul but we are here now, just for a few days, for christmas in NY ❤️🎄

Daily Project round 8
Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2025 03:11

Ugh, what a day. 😭
Nothing but driving errand to errand.
Was given the middle finger by a lovely man in the Costco parking lot because I wouldn't back my car down a single lane for him to pass when all he needed to do was drive out the free-flowing 2-way. 🙄
But. All errands are done.😅
I've done a load of laundry and vacuumed. 🤗
I'll clean the bathroom tonight or tomorrow when I'll wash sheets and any other laundry remaining; take the kids out, hopefully for most of the day and squeeze in a church visit, make dinner and watch Christmas movies til bedtime. I'm so glad I don't have to grocery shop tomorrow. 😅🤗

Mumofone: Have the BEST time in NYC with your lovely dd. 🩷 You both deserve a magical holiday. 🎄🎅

WinterFrogs · 24/12/2025 07:26

Morning! Wow @mumofoneAloneandwell how exciting! I hope you have a fantastic time 😁
Pleased you finally feel better @petalpower !

Sounds like all Christmas preps are well in hand for all of you. I hope everyone can relax now. Even grinchy old me got stuck into a Christmas film whilst wrapping yesterday. Buffet with my family today, lunch at care home tomorrow so won't need to lift a finger on Christmas Day.

But first, out into wind and wet as I'm on horse duty. I swear it's what keeps me relatively sane, though some might question my sanity for being so enthusiastic about mud in the first place 😅

autumnangel · 24/12/2025 10:11

@Peridot1 - Sounds like you're organised
@mumofoneAloneandwell - that's amazing, hope you and DD have the most magical time! Please tell us all about it.
@Mumtobabyhavoc - sorry that man was mean to you...I sometimes think Christmas brings out the worst in people
@WinterFrogs - hope you enjoy the family buffet today

I need to nip to the library this morning to print off a voucher for my dad. Then to my parents to drop off presents so that I don't need to be worrying about that tomorrow. This afternoon I'm meeting DBIL for a walk. Things aren't great with the inlaws at the moment - probably my fault. I've always had trouble setting and sticking to boundaries which then make me feel resentful when people become too involved. Definitely something to work on in the new year. Also need to go to the dump and go through the fridge and do a meal plan. One extra job for today is to sort new extension bar in my bedroom as it turns out just 4 sockets next to the bed isn't enough.

Hope everyone has time to put their feet up at some point today ❤

FourSeasonsLobelia · 24/12/2025 10:24

Hi all. [waves]

How fabulous you are in NYC @mumofoneAloneandwell !!

Hope the next few days go well @autumnangel . You have had the most brutal of times this year. Thanks

Just checking in then out. I am having an arthritis and fibromyalgia flare and feel ghastly. So heading back to bed and leaving the rest of everything to everyone else.

Merry Christmas to you all. Thanks

SunnyViper · 24/12/2025 10:50

Morning all. Still living off lemsip here. I’ve a few bits to buy from Tesco and then I’m all done. I can live without them so if the car park is rammed I might just go home😂. New shower part arrived yesterday it plumber can’t fix it until next Monday. With the number of people we have, I am going to have a go myself as it will be worth it if I can get it up and running.

I hope everyone has a chilled Christmas Eve!

RunningKatie · 24/12/2025 10:57

Merry Christmas all! Ddog and I are chilling on the sofa, dh is having a power nap before my mother arrives, the teens are in their rooms hiding too.
All presents are wrapped, the fridge is full and I've put out the snowman toilet roll so we are ready!
Hope you all have wonderful Christmasses with your loved ones x

Peridot1 · 24/12/2025 11:36

Merry Christmas to you all.

@mumofoneAloneandwell - wow! You kept that quiet! Have a fantastic time. I’d love to do Christmas in NY one year.

@FourSeasonsLobelia - that doesn’t sound good. Hope a rest will rejuvenate you a bit.

@WinterFrogs - hope you enjoyed your horse time.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - it’s not Christmas unless you have an altercation with an idiot in a car park.

@autumnangel - I’m sure things with the in-laws will improve. You are all navigating a difficult time. Boundaries will definitely need to be laid.

@SunnyViper - hope you get the shower sorted.

@RunningKatie - enjoy! Love that your snowman toilet roll is a final sign of being ready!

I am doing few last minute bits. About to chop some squash to freeze. Then I’ll make the stuffing. And the Malteaser tray bake. A quick kitchen clean and vacuum. And I still need to deliver some Christmas cards! I can do it with a nice walk later.

I had some news about my funny neuro symptoms yesterday. I had an MRI on my brain last week and the neurologist phoned late yesterday to tell me they found a brain! Funny man! And apparently it’s healthy. Nothing suspicious or nasty. Will have a test in January for something called peripheral vestibular hypo function. Basically an inner ear issue which causes messages to not get to the brain correctly. My dad will be laughing wherever he is. He always said my brain was wired backwards! 😄

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 24/12/2025 12:00

I'm sorry to focus on the least serious part of all these messages but... Snowman toilet roll @RunningKatie ?@RunningKatie can I see a picture?!?

@mumofoneAloneandwell I am so thrilled for your NYC trip!!! Amazing way to celebrate

Sending love and health to those of you who are under attack from ailments and difficult times.

petalpower · 24/12/2025 12:07

Good news about the MRI results @Peridot1 .
Have a fabulous time in NY @mumofoneAloneandwell .
Hope it wasn’t too cold with the horses @WinterFrogs . The wind is bitter here.
The festive season seems to bring out the worst in some people @Mumtobabyhavoc .
I hope you have a peaceful Christmas @autumnangel and are able to find some moments of joy.
You sound very organised @RunningKatie !
That sounds impressive having a go at your own plumbing @SunnyViper . Good luck! I wouldn’t know where to start.
Hope your flare up settles down before tomorrow @FourSeasonsLobelia .
I now seem to have a festive cold so am taking meds and hoping it’s a quick bug that passes quickly.
Today’s achievements:

  • two loads of laundry done and flapping on the line in the cold wind
  • DH has taken his car to the garage and had a nail taken out of his tyre
  • the turkey has been brined
  • cranberry sauce is made
  • I’ve repainted the village noticeboard with new events and taken it back to the village hall
Now need to prep the veggies for tomorrow, make the bread sauce, stuffing roll and Yule log and then hopefully sit in front of the log burner with a glass of something lovely (or a Lemsip!).
