A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Just reeling from the horrible news out of Australia and the US re attacks and LA re Rob Reiner and wife Michelle. Good God.

Am up, a bit rushed, to get Havoc to school (although no set time one must show up) as don't want to be too late and risk classroom being full.

Still raining here, there has been some bad flooding, livestock lost, and rain is in the forecast for at least another week. It's 11c and will go to 13c today - for December. 😵‍💫

Lots of laundry to get done and still need new shoes for baby.

WinterFrogs · 15/12/2025 19:23

What age do they start proper school @Mumtobabyhavoc? It sounds nice and relaxed where you are. Reception here at four sounds a bit like bootcamp.
The news is awful isn't it?
It's not that i don't care - my remark might have been too flippant, it's just, so much awfulness, all the time. We cannot absorb all of it or there will be no light left to shine 😢

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/12/2025 19:40

Winter, kindergarten (it is full day) the year a child turns 5. It is optional. Grade 1, proper classroom learning, the following year, so the year a child turns 6.

DC played so well together today at school! It was a good morning. 🤗

FourSeasonsLobelia · 15/12/2025 20:05

@WinterFrogs yes i watch all the crap programmes. Smile

Lovely to have you here @SunnyViper !

YY @Mumtobabyhavoc about the news. My heart hurts so badly with yesterday's news. I did not get away from the tv much yesterday, as I was frozen with distress. And with todays about Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. I cannot imagine the pain their other children and friends are in.

In a world where there is all too often so much pain and despair - I wish each and every one of you and your loved ones peace, joy and comfort.

However- on other subjects. DH is in London for work tomorrow until Friday. Then he will be doing a contract for a few months, coming home only every second week for 4 days. It will be hard, but I am rather looking forward to the house staying clean for more than 5 minutes at a time and things able to be found where I last left them. Grin. Plus the skip-hiring plans. [strokes chin thoughtfully]. I hope I can get some very major Daily Project projects in by stealth and before he has time to realise / argue. Grin

Love to you all. xx

FourSeasonsLobelia · 15/12/2025 20:10

Oh- so far re Disney Plus the Dcs seem to be only watching The IT Crowd and The Big Bang Theory- both of which I thought we had already watched to death with Netflix. But it's different apparently on Disney plus. Hmm

I have a little plan to watch Frozen though while ironing tomorrow. Smile.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/12/2025 04:36

Managed a trip to the mall with dc after lunch and a nap today. God things take 10x as long to do with both of them. I honestly can't think and struggle to make a simple decision. 😵‍💫
Baby titally buoasses adking me for something and instead yells, Havoc! Haaaaavoooooc! I want one, too!!! Meanwhile I'm trying to choose ribbon to wrap baby's birthday presents. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
The great thing accomplished was purchasing shoes for baby for Christmas/New Year's clothes, although same shoes likely won't go well with birthday outfit, so I have to decide to either make do or bite the bullet and buy another pair. 🙄
Once home, made dinner and put a load of laundry on that is now hung up to dry. Havoc is in bed with a deal of Advent chocolate before school tomorrow if asleep when I go back to check. 😁
It's a week before Christmas and ribbon I need seems to be sold out everywhere I looked, so I'm going to do what I should have done days ago snd order from Amazon. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🙄
I really want to vacuum, but I don't want to risk waking Havoc. 🤷‍♀️😁
Oh! Finished watching Parenthood on Netflix on Saturday afternoon. ✅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/12/2025 05:34

Ugh! My stupid phone...

Managed a trip to the mall with dc after lunch and a nap today. God things take 10x as long to do with both of them. I honestly can't think and struggle to make a simple decision. 😵‍💫
Baby totally bypasses asking me for something and instead yells, Havoc! Haaaaavoooooc! I want one, too!!! Meanwhile I'm trying to choose ribbon to wrap baby's birthday presents. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

mumofoneAloneandwell · 16/12/2025 16:37

Hey everyone 🥰🎄🎅

my love to all of you during this time, and 👋 to our newcomers

Dd's bedroom is done, just needs a vacuuming. I think i'm done getting her presents, just need to wrap them now.

Written out our christmas cards - one each for our neighbours, dd's classmates and for the hospital, and then the council so they remember us when they're doing their school allocations 😄😄

Need to get a christmas teacher card, and then drive round dropping the cards off tomorrow.

Me and dd went shopping today so bar the veg, I am prepped for christmas. Although would like some lamb.

Need to pop to primark for some cheap long sleeved tops for me and dd for the winter.

@Mumtobabyhavoc that made me laugh 😄😄, I feel for you on the shopping front!

My dd goes in the trolley when we go to tesco, but rather than sit, she kind of lays down, like shes done a hard day's work 🙄😭 and then moans when the shopping gets put on top of her, like i'm inconveniencing her 😭

I think that ribbon is best found on amazon these days tbh, which is a shame as you dont see and feel it before you buy! Also, youve influenced me to try parenthood this weekend 👀👀

@FourSeasonsLobelia ❤️❤️ - you're gonna have the bed to yourself and get to watch what you want on tv (minus the kids big bang theory 😄), it'll be great. Hope picking up the car went okay

Welcome @SunnyViper 🥰

@WinterFrogs so far so good on the tv front 😄, but i say that with fingers crossed

I used to get scared by old Disney as a kid 😄, no idea why. But I loved the soaps 🤷‍♀️ cant explain it. Tried getting dd to watch 101 dalmatians with me but she had zero interest and went back to her tablet immediately

Hope youre okay @Peridot1 - that library sounds lovely 🥺🥰

@SpiritOfEdna your christmas card story made me sad 🥺. Another thing soon to be confined to the past, eh. I remember hanging them up on the wall as a kid, now we get a handful for dd from her classmates and thats it.

@autumnangel 🥰

Love to everyone ive missed. Do take care everyone. The world is tough and cruel but we will keep going and keep eachother going, because thats all we can do 🫂❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/12/2025 17:11

I still have not done my cards. 😵‍💫
Mumofone: you've got me beat with the trolley. 😂 I tell my kids to sit down when the bus is moving if they stand up, though. 😃
I'm going to order ribbon now.
BRB. 😁

SunnyViper · 16/12/2025 17:12

Afternoon all and thanks for the welcome 😃. Today has mainly been towel washing. We have 7 kids between us and my daughter is living here with her partner. My other daughter is home from uni so there are 6 of them milling about and generally causing havoc😂. The shower is faulty in the annexe so our bathroom has been getting more use……and a pile of towels seems to have appeared behind the door. In a couple more days the remaining two will be home so it can only get better😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/12/2025 18:04

Ok. Ribbon ordered. Supposed to be here by Thursday. 🤞
I'm still dealing with the fire issue. I submitted a claim to Amazon. I would like reimbursement for paint and supplies to re-do that part of the wall. 🤞
I have one purchase that was supposed to be here last week as it was ordered end November. Apparently a customs delay, but no one can tell me where it is. I can get a refund now, but I've asked the seller if another one using a different carrier can be sent. Awaiting a reply. 🤞

Viper, that's a lot of people for one bathroom! Is it just for the holidays?

Mumofone: I've got lamb, too. Planning it for Christmas Eve. Duck Christmas day. Left-overs of both on Boxing Day.
I'll do a final grocery shop on the 23rd, I think.
I was up late watching the Charlie Sheen bio-doc on Netflix last night. What a train-wreck he was. Parenthood was pulled on Sunday here, so I binged it at the end. If you get it there you must watch it.

I was going to try to get a proper Santa pic with the kids yesterday at the mall, but Havoc wasn't interested. It was only when we were leaving, and I was wiped out, that Havoc began crying to see Santa. 🤦‍♀️ I wasn't going back, so I promised "I'd make an appt with him".

RunningKatie · 16/12/2025 18:23

Happy Tuesday eve all. DH is out, I've got a long list of things to be done. Top of the list is the ironing, oh the joy.
I love About a Boy, it's rarely on tv these days but I try and catch it when it is.
Thankfully ddog has improved, he'd cut the pad on his paw so was limping badly. Such a relief, I was dreading the vets bill.
Tomorrow I'm venturing to a supermarket for all the cheese and fancy crisps, then I'm aiming to wrap everything that's hanging around the house.
Obviously I'll never achieve all of this but I'll give it a whirl nonetheless!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 16/12/2025 18:57

Hello everyone old and new from the train, last onsite day today until the new year 🎉

The big hosting on Sunday went great and we had a marvellous time and delicious food. Feeling very grateful and fortunate.

Have sorted most presenty bits for teachers, after school club, etc and H has dealt with most of the Christmas cards so that's a relief.

Need to double check the grocery delivery order by the end of the week.

And we are NOT on top of laundry and quickly running out of pants....

Oh @WinterFrogs we don't have a wall mounted TV either, it's a bit elderly in fact and not particularly smart... Eventually we'll have to update it!

SunnyViper · 16/12/2025 19:18

@Mumtobabyhavoc there are 2 working showers so it’s not too bad. The third is out of commission until the plumber comes and fits the new one. There are 5 toilets though so all is well!

Aria999 · 16/12/2025 20:51

Hello @SunnyViperwe have jack and jill bathrooms too, I sympathize!

I love your annotated lists @SpiritOfEdna! 😁

I have just started using a housekeeping app called Sweepy, I love it but unfortunately it coincided with me starting this job so it's just developing a lot of red 'needs attention' areas. It is making me try and fit in the odd thing around the edges though!

@WinterFrogs I don't think taking no notice of that lot makes you a bad person, least of all reality tv! I never liked it much anyway and I now inextricably associate it with Donald Trump. The train wreck playing out in America currently is basically one long and deadly serious reality tv show.

lol re your DH messing up the house @FourSeasonsLobelia. I rather fear I am that person in my own relationship, though mostly it's so eclipsed by the insane flood of abandoned items, stray socks, cushions on the floor etc generated by the kids that I don't feel too bad about it 😁

Aria999 · 16/12/2025 23:57

Hello @RunningKatie! Glad ddog is on the mend!

autumnangel · 17/12/2025 06:53

Looks like a bit of a dreich day here. Checked the weather app and there’s rain forecast for every day for the next 2 weeks. Later after work I’m going to do some shopping then I need to sort through the Christmas gifts I’ve got, wrap them and see what else is needed. Then I’m going to reward myself with a look through all the supermarket Christmas brochures and choose what I’m going to have to eat over the holidays.
One extra job today is to find batteries and put them in the alarm clock in the spare room.

SunnyViper · 17/12/2025 07:07

The shower situation has got even better🙄. My daughter woke me around midnight to say that her shower wouldn’t turn off. I looked at it and I think something has broken in the knob so I ended up having to turn the house water supply off. I was then up at 6 to turn it back on for partner and the two college kids to get ready to head out. I’ve just checked my plumbing policy and it clearly exempts mixer showers so that’s really helpful🙄. Hopefully I can find a plumber quickly!
I hope everyone’s day goes well.

WinterFrogs · 17/12/2025 07:17

Morning all! @autumnangel I'm at the other end of the country, and it's lovely and clear here. I too must wrap pressies today. Some work errands to run and I have promised to test an app ( idea being if I can work it, anyone can!)
Mother has a choir coming in to sing carols with them, and I've promised to go along as well.
@SunnyViper you do have your hands full! Not just your house!
Good news about your dog @RunningKatie
@Aria999 your description of stray socks and cushions on the floor etc is so very familiar!
Pleased your weekend gathering went well @SingleThreadJoiner2

I must run. Best wishes to all including those I've not mentioned.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/12/2025 07:37

Hello Autumn, lovely to see you here. 🩷
Jeezus, Viper. When it rains it really pours!

Just got into bed with baby after cleaning bathroom and hanging up a load of laundry. Folded and put away previous load washed two days ago, vacuumed, washed bathroom floor and a section of adjoining hallway. Feels clean now. 😅
DC would not settle so I ended up making a pot of oatmeal at 9:45pm for them. That helped Havoc settle and is finally sound asleep. I had a lovely thick slice of whole grain seeded sourdough toast with butter, PB& strawberry J. 🤗
Baby helped me get clothes from the washer and hung up socks without help! It wasn't perfect, but I'm not complaining. 🩷

Good night lovely thread friends. 😴

SunnyViper · 17/12/2025 08:32

@WinterFrogs its lovely here too. I saw the sunrise whilst turning the water supply back on😂.
@Mumtobabyhavoc that sourdough toast is making me feel 😋. I saw some unusual butter in Aldi last week, ginger and cinnamon. It worked really well on hot cross buns!

Peridot1 · 17/12/2025 10:18

Hello all.

Have read the thread but not managed post for a few days so I won’t try to tag everyone. Suffice to say you all sound busy.

Agree the news has been shocking though. Had a lovely chat with my best friend in Sydney on Sunday just as the Bondi shooting was happening. Although didn’t realise until we’d finished. We are going to see Crowded House on Bondi Beach in February.

I haven’t been achieving too much lately so need to get sorted. Was out all yesterday afternoon and am going to get my haircut today so that doesn’t help.

Welcome @SunnyViper - hope you manage to get the showers sorted.

Today’s list:

  • usual dishwasher etc
  • laundry - on
  • sort out random newspaper delivery we have been getting although we don’t actually get a newspaper delivery - hopefully sorted
  • post two Christmas cards
  • finish tidying hallway which I started the other day
  • vacuum and wash hall floor

Have a great day all.

SunnyViper · 17/12/2025 10:53

Thanks @Peridot1 . In the light of day I have managed to isolate the shower so we now have water back. I’ve also managed to get a plumber to come round this afternoon. I’ve been trying for ages to get someone to fix the first shower but now there is more to do, it seems that it is a more attractive job😂.

I need to get some more laundry on and make a visit to my old house that hasn’t sold yet to make sure all is well and pick up any stray post.

WinterFrogs · 17/12/2025 11:26

@Mumtobabyhavoc your posts about your children do make me smile! I love the anonymity of thinking they are actually called Havoc and Baby. Baby helping hang out socks made my heart melt 💓
Congrats on getting a plumber @SunnyViper I've done my share of chasing up contractors this year. It's a job in itself sometimes.
👋 @Peridot1

I'm getting stuff done. I would love a completely free day at home, though there us some truth in the saying that if you want something done, ask a busy person. I expect if i did have a free day, I'd just procrastinate.

Get dinner prepped next and organise wrapping stuff I think.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/12/2025 14:06

Havoc is still my Wordle starter word. It makes me smile every day. Smile
