A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

I’d only had plain toast and crackers for several days and when I saw that egg and cress sandwich in M and S on the way back from the hairdresser I just really fancied it and it was delicious @Peridot1 ! Back on the chicken and boiled rice again tonight though and I still don’t even like the thought of a cup of tea.

WinterFrogs · 13/12/2025 09:59

Morning! Hope you're still in the up @petalpower 😊
Saturday has come around very fast! And it's a beautiful day here. Bit of a late start, but the sun is shining and the birds are singing!
I will finish wrapping presents today I think. And I might be moved to pull out the sofa and do a thorough vaccum. And the stairs.
Oh, how I like to party!
I hope you are all well today.

I have just read a thread where someone has booked to go to a pottery place to make a festive mug, and I think we're too late to do similar but it might be something to consider next year. With DH...he'll be thrilled 😂
Never too old for a date 'night'. Poor man. It has to be a date day really as we like to be in bed by nine, pair of old codgers we are.

Peridot1 · 13/12/2025 10:17

No tea @petalpower???!!! No! That’s terrible. Hope that improves soon. Love my tea.

@WinterFrogs - in the village itself there is only the pub but there are a few others in walking distance. We tend to stick to the pub to support it. It closed for a few years apparently before we moved here. And then reopened just before Covid….. We are right by part of the Basingstoke Canal and there are a few nice walks that have pubs nearby and I keep saying to DH we should get out a bit for a walk and stop for lunch or a drink. Maybe NY resolution.

Lovely frosty sunny morning here so I might go for a walk. Really gotten out of the habit.

Today’s list:

  • usual kitchen/dishwasher
  • laundry
  • write remainder of Christmas cards - a few to post but rest village
  • order DS’s Christmas presents now he has finally sent me a list
  • insurance claim for dental hygienist
  • maybe a charity shop run and pick up DS’s mattress topper which is being laundered
  • open up new rug which I still haven’t done

And planning on either watching a Christmas movie or reading a Christmassy book.

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/12/2025 10:40

Morning all 🥱
It's after 2:30am. I'm scrolling through pics to print for baby's birthday wall. I've just finished picks from March. One mote episode of Parenthood then bed.

I really need to get my Christmas cards done, too.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 13/12/2025 10:49

Lord-christmas cards. I've lost my address book (and my enthusiasm).

Glad you are on the mend @petalpower

Aria999 · 13/12/2025 12:47

Hi everyone! Wow there's a lot going on!

glad you were ok after the contact lens problem @Mumtobabyhavoc! Scary! I remember the feeling of supreme smugness when I remembered to bring a change of clothes and we needed them. Though one time DS age 3 got though all three changes I had brought and was still soaking before the end of the trip. (This was in Death Valley where it was flooded due to our habit of bringing rain to unlikely places). These days the kids mostly have to cope as I can't be bothered with all the piles of stuff you need before leaving the house and I figure they are old enough to stay out of puddles or face the consequences 😁

I also have a constant pile of laundry. Yesterday I was rather dismally calculating the daily number of items I need to fold to keep up with it (there are 4 of us). It's no wonder I don't!

I have a job! Only 1 day in so we will see how it goes. But the housework is going to take a sharp hit!

better go get the kids ready now! 👋 everybody!

WinterFrogs · 13/12/2025 13:57

Basingstoke canal looks lovely. Nice that you support your local pub @Peridot1 You've reminded me - did anyone read the thread where people so badly want their children to receive a mountain of presents that they wrap up things like mattress toppers and pass them off as presents? MN has unveiled a while other world that I was unaware of. Got to love it!
I hope you are ok @FourSeasonsLobelia 💕 is life getting to you? You sound a bit 'meh' 🫂
@Aria999 I do enjoy your way with words! I'm with you on the dismalness ( is that a word...or dismality??) of folding clothes. It seems a waste of time with young children when they crumple things almost instantly. Away in a drawer was a win for me in those days. Stay out of puddles or face the consequences yeah absolutely, soon as they are big enough, I agree. Good luck with the new job!

@Mumtobabyhavoc you are going to wear yourself out! Go a little bit easy on yourself 💐

I am in a cold building waiting for a contractor to finish some work. I am the keyholder so I can't go till he does. Should have brought Christmas cards to write, but instead I have my trusty kindle. I have promised some help with the horses afterwards, so I'm hoping he's quick!

I have given up my usual Saturday afternoon solitude for all this. But at least it's a nice day 😃

Aria999 · 13/12/2025 14:04

@FourSeasonsLobelia maybe 'I've lost my address book' is the excuse you need to break free! I haven't done Christmas cards since I was about 17, I think Facebook is my alternative way of vaguely keeping in contact with people in a mostly meaningless way 😁

RunningKatie · 13/12/2025 16:45

Afternoon all, yet again I'm falling off the thread. Today I've written some Christmas cards whilst the dc were in their activity - that was the last one till January which feels weird but nice. I'm so excited for 2 weeks off school and work.
We did a light trail at Chatsworth last year, was lovely but I'm not a fan of driving through the Peak District in the dark so this year we're booked into a smaller one near to us.
Ddog has had an injury which was worrying, he couldn't weight bear on one leg, as he's a hefty 30kgs I was seriously concerned we couldn't carry him if he got stuck on a walk. Fingers and paws crossed he's on the mend now.
Hope poorly people are on the mend and all the small people get through to the end of term covered in glitter and tinsel!

I always say i love facebook because it means i can keep in touch without actually talking to people.

Thanks @WinterFrogs you know me well. ❤I am a bit meh, but all is fine. Just feeling a bit fed up with things, but nothing (thankfully) major.

Hi to all. Smile Sorry, not up to a proper post but love reading how everyone is doing.

Small vignette chez Lobelia... DS1 has persuaded me I need to get Disney Plus as part of the DCs Christmas present. He exclaimed with excitement; 'They have ALL the Star Wars movies.... even the ones which were crap!!'.

Love to you all. This thread means a very great deal to me. I think we must action the RL meeting in the New Year. Smile

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/12/2025 18:24

Lobelia, I'm pretty much the only one I know who mails them out. Haven't past two years; '23 was when baby was born; '24 was a postal strike. They will be very late this year.
Aria, I def feel on top of things when I plan ahead for outings and have a change of clothes for them. The dc were so cute as they were in sweats, dry toques and shoes; and each had a little blanket and a snack. They were quite happy.
Katie, oh no re doggo. I'd be concerned, too.
it times like that you wish they could talk.
Winter, I didn't see that one, but I did do a massive eye roll and annoyed sigh at someone who dumped on a Christmas thread and I had to post a couple sarcastic replies. 🫣

I steam-mopped the floors and area rugs before getting into bed earlier. 🙄
Plans to sleep a bit more while dc watched Polar Express have been thwarted. They keep popping in to see me. Right now one is on each side, meowing.

Aria999 · 14/12/2025 03:05

Thanks @WinterFrogs, hope you didn't have to wait too long!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 14/12/2025 17:39

Watching love actually with dd on the tv I mounted myself! Terrified about it falling so please cross your fingers 😄

Nothing done today. But tomorrow I must clean out dd's bedroom/playroom so writing here as tomorrow's project.

Its just a dumping ground and we need it sorted.

Last week of school everyone, we've got this!! ❤️❤️🎄

Edit, will catch up on the thread xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/12/2025 20:05

Mumofone: I have a very old box tv (1994, Hitachi) that is just starting to go, so have been looking at wall mounts and flat screens in prep. Good for you for putting the tv up. Did you also put the mount on the wall? I have a huge and heavy flat screen that pooped out several months ago sitting on the bedroom dresser that I need to take to recycling. I think it can be repaired, but can't quite sort it.
Good timing on your tv news. 😃

I think Love Actually is a fun movie, although I think About a Boy is a bit better. 😁 There's always a thread or comments about the movie not aging well. (I don't think Hugh Grant has aged well, though)

FourSeasonsLobelia · 14/12/2025 20:19

I did not like About a Boy when it first was aired. But I think it has aged alot better than some of the others!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 14/12/2025 21:41

Oh I love about a boy, @Mumtobabyhavoc !! - I just awkwardly gloss past loving Nicholas Hoult (sp) in the film and then lusting after him years later in Skins 🤭

Him and jack o connell omg

Anyway 😭 yeah I did it myself! Well the tv men who were supposed to do it, did draw the lines on the wall where the mount had to go, but i did the rest. They claimed there were too many wires or something behind the wall. They'd messed me around so much I politely asked them to leave at that point 😒😒

They couldnt take it upstairs for me, they couldnt mount it, there were several delays to the delivery, just a disaster and I will be complaining.

Anyway its up - go as big as possible @Mumtobabyhavoc , I say! Maybe you can contsct the manufacturer of your broken one, they often do long guarantees now?

Hugh has aged terribly!

@FourSeasonsLobelia ❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/12/2025 22:48

Thanks for that advice Mumofone. The one that bit it is 41", screen is 37" and is very heavy (Samsung). I've been looking at 50" max at Costco as the prices are really good. I'm such a procrastinator, though, and will likely wait until the box completely fails.

Hugh Grant was cute, though, and charming. But, apparently a bit of a prick irl. Also, seems a bit snobbish. 🤷‍♀️🧐
I liked Notting Hill as well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/12/2025 22:51

I should also add: I've washed the sheets for one bed and will put them in the dryer after the pillow in there is finished it's hot tumble (🧐😂).

Peridot1 · 15/12/2025 10:53

Hello all.

Loving the tangents this thread takes! Horses, tv shows, tvs on walls, food, and sometimes actual tasks to do! 😄

I still do Christmas cards but less and less each year it seems. Quite a few people in the village do them too so have to reciprocate. But that’s cheaper as I just hand deliver. It’s so expensive to post them these days. It is handy to be able to do a FB greeting or a quick text of WhatsApp. Although I kind of miss the days when I was a child when we got loads and they were part of our Christmas decorations.

I was supposed to get up and out early this morning to go to a big Marks & Spencer about 20 minutes away but am not feeling it. So in a change of plans I will pop into our local town and do an @petalpower trip of getting a few things done at once. Post office, pick up DS’s mattress topper from laundrette, charity shop run and a few things from the supermarket. And will get some bits for DS’s Christmas stocking.

Other than that today will be usual kitchen, laundry, vacuuming, etc. Need to tidy and clean hallway as it’s a mess of boxes and shoes and random things. Also need to return the Ruggable rug I bought. Didn’t even take it out of the box as had a peek and it’s too pale. Again. Giving up now.

Have a good day all.

autumnangel · 15/12/2025 11:33

Hello everyone 👋thank you to everyone who has asked after me and held me in your thoughts. I have been thinking of you all. I've not been doing many extra daily projects (or even daily anything for that matter 🙈). I'm not going to be able to read back but I hope everyone is doing ok and I'm sure I'll catch up as I go along.
I have a day off work today and I'm although I've had a shower I'm back in my pj's. I do need to get out though as I'll end up with cabin fever later if I don't. I think I'm going to take myself off to the local garden centres for a look around. I haven't put a tree or decorations up this year so I'll go and admire some beautiful ones instead and I'll treat myself to some lunch and maybe a cheeky cake as well.
I'm doing a secret santa for 2 kids and 2 adults in my bereavement group, it's been rather difficult as I don't know them and also need to post the packages so to keep things light. I NEED to get them wrapped and off to the Post Office today as they are taking up far more space in my brain than necessary so it'll be good to get them gone.

I do hope everyone is well ❤

SunnyViper · 15/12/2025 11:40

It’s bed change day here. Luckily the kids are old enough to do their own so it’s just ours I’m doing. Also need to do a Tesco shop and empty and put out the bins. MIL is staying over Christmas so I need to put a lock on a jack and Jill bathroom door. Living life to the full here😂

SpiritOfEdna · 15/12/2025 12:39

I get a christmas card in the post every year from a friend's family. It's always a signifier that xmas has started but this year we got a note in it saying this was the last year they were doing it - it must cost her a fortune to do! So there's the guilt at not sending one and the pleasure of xmas starting all in one hit - will have to find something else next year 😄

The house is very tidy as we have lost a back door key :-) Even the recycling bin looks immaculate, but still no key. (It's been found)

Today:

  • water plants and try and find a way to prop one up - DONE
  • desk is still very untidy
  • chase a quote for floors - CHASED
  • see if we can get SpiritDoggo groomed before christmas (forlorn hope) ASKED
  • try and find some time for a day off 😄- TRICKY
  • paid parking fine for Cornwall - DONE
  • bedroom tidy needs to be done - GIVEN UP
  • need to do a list of tasks for the GNiece to do to earn some pocket money - IN PROG
  • need to make some brownies/mince pies for sibling food hamper but need to find out when we will see them - MESSAGE SENT
  • Nice social media post done - in response to some of the horrible stuff out there 😄 LOSING BATTLE
Final one is to stop procrastinating - so must go and do the work task I am due to present in an hour or so, have a good one, SoE.

Peridot1 · 15/12/2025 12:59

Extra task done - we have a mini library in the old phone box in the village and it was very cluttered so DH and I cleared some books out a couple of weeks ago and they have been in our hallway in bags since. I’ve just sorted through them. Two bags for charity shop if they will take them. A bag of some that nobody would want so they will gradually go in our bin. And some that a more antiquarian book shop might take. I’ll take them on Wednesday when I go to get my hair cut.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 15/12/2025 13:19

I just need to clean for the cleaner today and hopefully pick up the car from the garage.

WinterFrogs · 15/12/2025 13:25

Hello @SunnyViper 👋 and welcome! As you can see, we too live the high life round here 😂

@SpiritOfEdna a school friend of mine used to send one every year for years, and I never remembered and always felt guilt and vowed to do better, but never did 😳 She's given up on me now.

@Peridot1 not my village but one I drive through regularly has one of those libraries! I quite often do a little book swap. It's such a nice idea. Lovely of you to sort yours out!

I am terrible at FB. I treat a bit like Christmas really, am aware it happens but generally take as little notice of it as possible. Ditto the news. And reality TV. I'm a Bad Person 😔

But i have just been nice to my mother and a stroppy brother, and taken a parcel in for my neighbour so it isn't all bad. Even though none of them are likely to get a Christmas card. Mother perhaps...

I find cards confusing - where to draw the line? So it's simpler not to do any. And accept ones given, with good grace.

I guess just stay far back from the telly till your efforts have proved their worth @mumofoneAloneandwell 🙏. We are the last people I know not to have a wall mounted telly. I expect when current one conks out we will.

Hello @autumnangel I an glad you're ok. I think of you often 💕

And our esteemed @FourSeasonsLobelia Please to hear from you! 🫂 So will you be watching all the crap programmes?
We watched the animated Aladdin last night and loved every minute! It was such a favourite when the children were young- though some scenes in the old Disneys are pretty scary. Dd (33) now admits to finding Cinderella's cat terrifying. So we are more careful with littlest. #grumblingaboutlackofresilience 🤣

I quite liked Hugh Grant in The Gentlemen. That's another film I can watch on repeat.

I need to do some work.

Hope @RunningKatie your poor doggy is ok!

Love to all, must go ☕️ 🍰
