A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Oh, no Petal! I wonder if you've picked up norovirus? It does sound like it. Highly contagious, but should run its course quickly.
It's the season for it. Stay well-hydrated, ensure you're adding salt to food. I've had it. It is the worst.

Peridot, glad things are better.

Dark and rainy here. Errands today and taking dc out to a Christmas event later. I hope the rain eases.

Peridot1 · 10/12/2025 16:41

@petalpower - sorry to hear you are feeling so rough. I read a BBC article today about the difference between a cold, flu and Covid. They said Covid tends to come with a dose of diarrhoea so it may well be that. Lots of rest and fluids.

Bah Humbug to you too @WinterFrogs! 😂 🎄🎄🎄Enjoy your curry!

Back from dental hygiene appointment- got a ten out of ten 😇. Bought some more Christmas cards and a birthday gift for a friend. Just having a cup of tea and a mince pie. DH put the outside lights up while I was out. And we are heading over to the pub for dinner later.

WinterFrogs · 11/12/2025 07:26

Morning all! Why thank you @Peridot1 😆
I hope you enjoyed your pub dinner!
@petalpower that sounds utterly miserable! I read somewhere on MN that the current flu virus goes out with a dose of the trots. I hope you feel better soon, whatever brand of lurgy you are down with 💐
Hello @FourSeasonsLobelia I hope you got your bits done ok!
@Mumtobabyhavoc did the children enjoy the Christmas event? I hope the rain eased up.

It's nativity play week here. Littlest was a very cute twinkly star 🌟 😍

My job for the day is to clean the washing machine detergent tray and and wipe down the front and sides. I need to get back on track with small daily projects.

Have a good day everyone 😁

Peridot1 · 11/12/2025 08:07

Morning all.

Pub dinner was not great @WinterFrogs. Had to send my meal back. Ordered prawn risotto which I’d been looking forward to all day and got a bowl of slop. I had DH sitting opposite me saying send it back and DS beside him saying just eat it. I sent it back. But evening ended nicely as some friends from the village came in so we had a drink with them.

I need to get back to daily tasks too. But there seems to be so much other things to do that I get distracted. Today’s will be a quick clean of the lights over the island unit in the kitchen.

Other tasks today:

  • towel wash - on
  • vacuum and wash floor in dining area
  • try new rug in dining area
  • write Christmas cards
  • tidy island unit as it’s become a dumping ground. Again

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 11/12/2025 15:22

Boo to a plate of slop @Peridot1! Good call, sending it back.

I'm feeling quite scattered. I have the 'don't know where to start' feeling. So I am procrastinating. And I haven't got time to do this, and I haven't got time for that, so I don't do any of it. I would really like to take a nap, but I'm quite certain that if I actually get off the sofa and set timers, I'll get a lot done quite quickly.
It's almost dark!! I have closed the curtains already.
Right, i am moving!

Kevin James Eating GIF by TV Land

Hey everyone

So in the spirit of Christmas, I have abandoned any sense of adulthood and have succumbed to relaxing during the school day. Its what Santa would want 😌

@petalpower maybe you have this flu thats going around? Sorry girl, it sounds awful x

@WinterFrogs now I want a curry 😄, gonna see if i have the ingredients for a chicken madras. Hope you managed to get moving, but if not, its okay 🥰 - my love to the littlest who i'm sure was a bright shining star ✨️

@Peridot1 hope youre feeling okay re the heads? 🥺. Sorry about the risotto - well done on sending it back, it can be a nervy task - glad your friends came though, that mustve improved things

@Mumtobabyhavoc how is the christmas kids entertainment going, did the event go okay? I must take dd out this weekend, theres a community centre near us who may have a santa at the weekend. Then I will see whether I can take dd out to eat somewhere. 😄 at the baby taking your bagel - i'm sure motherhood is watching your baby eat the food you were looking forward to 😄

@Aria999 i'm on a pre-christmas diet, because i plan to do some serious eating over xmas 😁 - so I may end up weighing as much as a man in armour 😭🥰

@crivit how did the sauce pan out?

@SpiritOfEdna @FourSeasonsLobelia @RunningKatie @SingleThreadJoiner2 👋👋 and to anyone I've missed

Also, whats everyone doing for christmas dinner this year? I'm thinking beef - with all the trimmings for me and with french fries and Yorkshire puds for dd - (although christmas day food may vary as I may have a little surprise up my sleeve...)

My love to you all 🥰🎄🎅

Ps, live gif of me during school hours this and next week 🤭

Sorry for the long post xx

SpiritOfEdna · 11/12/2025 15:48

@mumofoneAloneandwell you don't need to lose weight to get on a horse - honestly give it a go - you will be asked your weight just so they can find the right horse for you!! I honestly pine for my horse riding days but unless I travel hours I have no chance of getting back in the saddle. (when I say horse riding days - one hour a week trotting around in a circle on the back of trusty old Winston who needed a fair old squeeze to get moving 🐴)

I've been off MN for a bit - couldn't get on ad blocker errors but thanks to ChatGPT have sorted my issue out. Today is so busy work wise back interviewing again (sob)
Today

  • try and find out when we get paid before xmas - it has been early the last couple of years but as they cancelled the xmas party, who knows!
  • decide whether to move the big xmas tree from it's stumpy stand into the more sturdy one before the hard work of decorating it happens
  • need to find an embroidery needle! I decided to hand make some felt xmas decorations - like I have the time! DONE
  • the room I'm working in needs a good old tidy - I'm surrounded by bits of felt, cotton all kinds of mess.
  • need to get SpiritDoggo out for a quick walk whilst it is still light she is looking up hopefully at me so will get off and do that now.
Waves to everyone and will try and have a read back, have a good one, SoE.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 11/12/2025 16:03

Just riding a horse sounds amazing @SpiritOfEdna - winston is a lovely, wise name for a horse. Will call the two places tomorrow, during my laying down time, and at least get dd booked in for a taster session.

Sorry about the work stress! You've been interviewing for ages, it sounds stressful xx

WinterFrogs · 11/12/2025 16:59

I've just astonishing myself with how much I've achieved with JCS up loud. I had just under an hour by the time sn amazon driver knocked on my door and got me off the sofa, and DH had been phoned and detailed to buy me some fruit (and some crisps 😳 )
So I got on with it, washed up, put away, wiped kitchen surfaces, tidied lounge, bleached bath seal, cleaned loo, made bed, last load of washing away and ran hoover round. DH has returned to peaceful happy wife, calmly sitting in front of blazing logs YouTube video on telly. And now I'm eating crisps 😋 In my tidy house 😇

WinterFrogs · 11/12/2025 17:42

'It's what Santa would want' made me laugh @mumofoneAloneandwell Sounds like you need some heavy duty resting!
There's always a Winston @SpiritOfEdna 💕
Do you think you'll get on a horse again?

I last had my bum in a saddle about 5 years ago. I'd really miss horses if they weren't in my life at all, but I only occasionally feel wistful about actually riding.

@mumofoneAloneandwell what RS are you looking at? (I might know one or other of them as I trained for my teaching exams at one of the big ones in London) 41 years ago 😲

Boo to all the interviews and hope you got Doggo walked @SpiritOfEdna

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/12/2025 19:12

Good morning lovely thread friends. 🩷

So many long posts here today! 🩷 Loving the peek into everyone's day. ☺️

Took the kids to Glow again out in Langley last night. It was a dark and rainy 90m drive in very heavy traffic. Four lane 100km/h highway. Traffic backed up until well past the bridge. Rubbed my eyes. Contact lens popped out and stuck to cheek. 😳 Scary few mins as I slowed and made it across three lanes to side of road with very blurry vision. 😵‍💫 Eye drops on hand 🙏 lens moistened, popped back in and continued on. 😅
Stayed two hours. All of us soaked despite rain gear. Back to car, got changed into dry clothes BECAUSE I THOUGHT AHEAD!!!🤗🤗🤗 Drove home. Rain had stopped so looked at Christmas lights in Burnaby, at a particular house we go by every year. It is amazing!

Daily Project round 8
petalpower · 11/12/2025 19:37

Loving all your updates today!
Thta sounds a bit scary @Mumtobabyhavoc . Glad your sorted out your lens.
Go you @WinterFrogs and your productive hour.
My achievements today have been getting out of bed, getting dressed and going downstairs! DD has been a superstar (came back from her boyfriend’s this morning) and ran the hoover round, made me food and drinks and did some laundry. I managed to plan some food for next week, add to the online supermarket shop, phone the vets and order my repeat prescription.

WinterFrogs · 11/12/2025 19:59

That is some commitment @Mumtobabyhavoc and well done on the planning! I gave up on lenses last year when it got too complicated with needing reading glasses. I am so relieved you managed it safely.
That house looks amazing. Is it just a normal house underneath all those lights?
Christmas jumper day everywhere I went today, including at mother's.

I had a cheeky google of Langley and Burnley. Then started googled villages around my way. Got myself down a long rabbit hole.

Congratulations on making it out of bed and dressed @petalpower 💕 Hopefully you're on the up. Good old DD, they do turn up trumps in the end don't they? Hopefully you'll make it to your hair appointment tomorrow! I got mine in on Monday so that's me done for six weeks.

I had a fit of enthusiasm and have started doing a walking at home workout to add to daily bit of stretching, squats and tai chi. I lost fitness over the summer so I'm attempting to use it before I lose it completely. My poor knees will never run again. And I do really need to not eat crisps! Kicked the chocolate habit because it's not even nice any more, but crisps are proving harder because they are just so tasty!

In answer to your question @mumofoneAloneandwell we are joining mother for lunch at the care home on Christmas Day( just me and DH) so no cooking, and a family buffet on Christmas Eve as all offspring are going to various inlaws this year. It'll be early as the little ones will need to get back to hang stockings and prep treats for santa and the reindeer, and the child-free adults will probably go to the pub. DH and I will wash up then sprawl in front of the telly, because the pub is always packed.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 11/12/2025 20:09

😄😄 i'm telling you @WinterFrogs, santa feels I've done enough this year and I must sit on the electric blanket with a coke zero at 10am 😭 - only 6 school days left and then i'm on the go as ive got to get dd out of the house this school holiday

Will dm you the riding schools closest to us, one north and the other is east - I dont think we're too far from Hertfordshire either so will see if they have one - basing this on the word 'shire' inspiring images of horses and fields 😭😭

Omgosh @Mumtobabyhavoc !! So glad you managed to get to the inner lane, you mustve been terrified! Nothing like having a stressful driving experience and then being the one who has to continue driving like everything is fine! That house is gorgeous, a perfect end to the day 😍

@petalpower so glad youve managed to get downstairs, thats progress xx

@WinterFrogs that sounds like a nice calm christmas day 😌, i'm sure your mum will have a lovely time too with you both. A christmas eve meal with all the family sounds nice too - imo xmas eve is the best part of christmas! Its the anticipation

Well that and the Eastenders special 😄

❤️🎄🎅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/12/2025 04:14

Winter: this is what that house looks like the rest of the year. It's a large house, but the area has a mix of similar and smaller older houses.

The magic toyshop looks like a lot of fun @Mumtobabyhavoc ! And I think that house just begs to be lit up 😍
I'm looking at booking tickets for this one, probably between Christmas and New Year

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/12/2025 10:07

Winter, i checked out the site. Looks amazing! Please take/post pics!!!!

I've wrapped all Havoc's presents and most of baby's while binging Parenthood on Netflix. I'm tired, but so glad I've done the bulk of it early. 🤗 I'm heading to bed after one more episode. 🥱

WinterFrogs · 12/12/2025 12:26

@Mumtobabyhavoc that sounds like a very late night! A lot achieved though!
I haven't been to a light trail before, and we've decided to go between Christmas and New Year to brighten up that sometimes dull week. So that's been booked!
Been busy this morning. Booked things online this morning ranging from dentist to Glow Wild.
DH and I do get a bit lazy about going out and about so we have decided to commit to something together each month next year.

We each have own hobbies and sets of friends as we met later in life, but we pull together well at home, and have a few couples that we eat out with occasionally.

And I have filled my car tyres with air again, which is annoying as I did it about two weeks ok ( amber warning light both times) Today both my nearside tyres were down so wondering if it's local kids mucking about or if it's due to squeezing into hedges regularly on the lanes.

I have phone calls to make which I am putting off as I'll be kept on hold in an attempt to talk to a human. But otherwise, a day off from actual work.

I keep looking at the garden and thinking i need to 'put it to bed'. A gardening thread got my attention recently and got be dreaming about summer possibilities. But it all seems so complicated with light and shade and soils ph and composition. Something else I am not sure how to start 🤔

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 12/12/2025 12:49

@WinterFrogs I love your plan with your H to do something together each month. I might have to steal it! We so often feel like ships passing in the night here.

Currently reaping the rewards of over ordering our delivery Chinese last night and enjoying leftovers for lunch. Put on a load of laundry this morning with breakfast and need to move it to the dryer. Delegated buying of gift cards for teachers to the husband 🎉 I have to print out some stuff for the christmas PTA event tonight, a few more hours of work, and then knock off early to help set up for the event.

Oh and did I mention we are having 12 adults and 8 children over on Sunday (including us)....? We're going to be eating in shifts 😅

Peridot1 · 12/12/2025 16:26

Hello all.

Everyone seems pretty busy.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - thank goodness you managed to avoid disaster with your contact lens mishap! That house looks amazing. I wonder how long it takes them to do?

@petalpower - glad you are on the mend a bit.

@WinterFrogs - doing something once a month is a good plan. I was talking to my neighbour a few weeks ago and she was saying that she and her DH said they would go out for lunch once a week when they moved here but it’s too much really so they never did anything. We said we would try going somewhere as a four once a month.

Hope you manage to get some horse time sorted for DD @mumofoneAloneandwell. Great that there are places near you.

Good luck with the PTA event @SingleThreadJoiner2. I remember those days!

Not much achieved here today. I had a gentle PT session this morning. Did the dishwasher. Nipped to a nearby village to pick up a dress I bought yesterday and posted some Christmas cards. Haven’t done any extra tasks. Need to do a few bits tomorrow.

I think I need a list.

Wondering earlier how @autumnangel is doing. Hope she is ok.

petalpower · 12/12/2025 17:19

Great excitement - I have left the house, had my hair cut, DS ten an egg sandwich and am feeling a bit better! Still feel wiped out but lots better than yesterday. Now I just need to catch up on everything that should have been done this week.

petalpower · 12/12/2025 18:24

Obviously I meant eaten an egg sandwich!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/12/2025 18:38

Petal, I misread it as a 10-egg sandwich. 😂

Just on my 2nd cafe latte. Five hours sleep. 🥱
Will tackle the mountain of laundry waiting when I get back later today/this evening.
Need to do a thorough cleaning in the bathroom and the usual vacuuming, but otherwise things are ok. 🤞

WinterFrogs · 12/12/2025 20:26

It's so easy to be ships in the night, isn't it @SingleThreadJoiner2 ? We can share ideas perhaps. We had an impromptu pub meal this evening after visiting my mum late this afternoon. £48 for ham egg and chips x2!! But I digress- it was lovely actually, and he still never fails to make me laugh ❤️. I proposed my idea of doing more together, and the crusty old sod actually took out his phone when we got home and booked tickets to a show next year.
I am impressed by your impending big gathering. That sounds like quite a houseful!

Village life sounds nice @Peridot1 Are there many eating places or do you rely on the pub for staying local?

Glad you are feeling better @petalpower An egg sandwich sounds quite ambitious but very sustaining!

@Mumtobabyhavoc 5 hours sleep 😲 no wonder you need coffee. I hope you survive the day!

I've achieved quite a lot in small increments today. Bedroom is clear of clutter and feels restful, and I'm quite looking forward to an early night at I've been waking before six all week.

Hope you're all having a nice evening xx
