A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

I'm really pleased you have an appointment so quickly @Peridot1 .

Just a drive by post. Just back from parent teacher interviews about DS1. He's doing so well even with all his issues and I am so proud I could cry. Smile

Love to all of you and back tomorrow. ❤

Aria999 · 04/12/2025 20:33

Aw well done your DS @FourSeasonsLobelia !

We got ours too, as usual DS was great in all the straight academic stuff but anything involving organizing himself, being on time for things, cooperating with others or that he finds boring, has been especially hard this term.

DD's was basically perfect bless her. Kindergarten is easier though.

I had a productive day.

highlighted own hair for first time ever (looks ok I think, subtle though)

folded laundry

fixed toilet flush

took 2 pairs trousers to be altered

refiled car with petrol

Had wisdom tooth extracted

so now I am not allowed wine, hot drinks or interesting food, and I can't exercise for a week ☹️

I really want a cup of coffee after all that!

Ooh @Peridot1i bought some leopard print jeans, love them!

Happy Will And Grace GIF by HULU

Ive had to go so far back to catch up, omg

Hey everyone

Not much going on here. Got a new tv for myself for christmas but had to ask my neighbour to help me get it upstairs as the box wouldnt fit and the delivery men said no.

We got it up, owe him a small gift. Its just perched on the floor waiting for the delivery men to come back and mount it on the wall, hopefully next week.

Flat is tidy at least, which is a win

Now i'm just making butter chicken for dd for a late dinner. She napped so it'll be a fun night for us 😌

How are you now @Peridot1 , those migraines sound awful 🥺 - best of luck with the neurologist

👋 @petalpower - I love that you have a villiage christmas tree, it gives me gilmore girls vibes 🥰

I hope you are keeping well @RunningKatie

@Aria999 I couldnt remember whether you were in america or Australia 😅 so wasnt sure whether to wish you a happy thanksgiving - sorry to hear that dh was poorly, hope he recovered well

Hi @crivit 👋🥰

Epic wreath @SpiritOfEdna !! 🎄 - i havent managed to walk dcat yet 😅, but her buggy is there ready for next week hopefully

@FourSeasonsLobelia glad to hear ds1 had a good school report 🙌

@Mumtobabyhavoc , @SingleThreadJoiner2 and all parents and grandparents of young kids - how are the christmas activites going? My dd is very uninterested so far and actually closes the advent calendar doors every morning, not at all interested in the chocolate 😭😭 (naturally, this means I have to eat it for her)

@WinterFrogs hope youre doing okay - good thinking about removing aibu from the active thread - i unfortunately love to deliver sass when needed and can't let it go 😭😭

So ive missed a few people, i'm sorry - love to you all though ❤️❤️

Sassy boob shake gif, from me, to you all 😌

Aria999 · 04/12/2025 21:33

Yikes @Peridot1 just seen your update, that sounds alarming! Hope appointment goes ok.

WinterFrogs · 05/12/2025 06:44

I love how you casually dropped in your wisdom tooth extraction @Aria999! I hope you're not too battered.

Best wishes for your appointment @Peridot1 ❤️

Must run, love to all xx

Peridot1 · 05/12/2025 10:12

Thanks all. I’m sure it will all be fine but best to get checked.

@Aria999 - yay to the leopard print jeans! Not yay to the wisdom tooth. Hope it’s not too painful.

@FourSeasonsLobelia - well done your DS.

@petalpower - we have a village Christmas tree too. The couple who normally do the lights etc are away and someone else did it and it is looking a bit sad! Definitely needs more lights.

@crivit - glad you got your brakes sorted. It sounds like it needed doing for sure.

Got a few things done yesterday. DH put up the plates in the kitchen. I started washing down the units. Changed DS’s bed. Did laundry. Vacuumed ground floor. And put up a Christmas tree in the sitting area off the kitchen.

Today’s list:

  • kitchen
  • laundry
  • helped DH clear excess books out of the village phone box/library. Someone dumped a load in and left a big plastic box and partially blocked the defibrillator 🙄
  • clean and tidy living room
  • put up Christmas tree in living room

Have a great day all.

Peridot1 · 05/12/2025 10:16

I went with red and gold on the tree @FourSeasonsLobelia. Although was definitely still thinking about cream as well. What did you do in the end? Or are you still planning?

FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/12/2025 10:20

I went with red, gold also!

I'll send a pic later. Smile

mumofoneAloneandwell · 05/12/2025 16:00

2 weeks of school left before christmas break begins 🥰🎄

Today I dropped off a return to evri and bought Sheba for dcat. She seems to have gone off her whiskas, completely randomly so off i popped to sainsburys like a good snack servant

Also got dd some biscuits and pot noodles, as she loves them now

Tonight, I am thinking to put up the second tree and chill out. Tomorrow I want to take dd up to Oxford street to look around, buy a hot chocolate and see the lights

Looking forward to seeing all your decorations photos 🎄🎄🥰

@Aria999 best of luck in your well deserved wisdom tooth recovery!

Love to all xx

WinterFrogs · 06/12/2025 07:02

Big cat has trouble with my food choices too @mumofoneAloneandwell. Currently only likes Lily's kitchen tins. Just bought a box of it so we'll see how quickly he changes his mind! Girl cat eats anything as long as it's out of a freshly opened packet. She has to see me do it, or will turn her nose up at it.

I see your sass here and there and it makes me grin 😁

Christmas tree has made it downstairs and I'll sort the lights today. We have ages old coloured lights, and I keep them on the 'on' setting. None of your Christmas flashing lights here. I do like a gentle twinkle though. A neighbour has managed gently twinkling warm white lights and I have some admiration for those.

Well done to DC for the parents evening @Aria999 and @FourSeasonsLobelia

Eexcellent achievements @crivit

Things have got a little cluttered again round here as I've not kept on top of it. It won't take long to put things away, and I plan to give the kitchen a thorough clean this morning. It's developing a 'lived in' look.

Have a good Saturday everyone and hope the children aren't getting too wild with excitement yet!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 06/12/2025 15:19

Happy Saturday everyone! We are very much in Christmas mode here (minus the tree which we probably won't do for another week at least), D has had her nativity play (a musical extravaganza involving reception, Y1, and Y2, the teachers did an incredible job) and a little Christmas celebration at her heritage language class this morning. Another family Christmas event tomorrow with H's workplace (always a really nice occasion).

Our big party of guests has left but they tidied up after themselves and washed the sheets and towels etc so that was helpful. Really need to accomplish school uniform washing over the weekend!

Stay cosy and Christmassy 💫

mumofoneAloneandwell · 06/12/2025 19:15

Happy Christmas @SingleThreadJoiner2 and everyone

😄 thanks @WinterFrogs 😁 - like your girl cat, my dd only drinks squash shes seen me make, to make sure i'm not sneaking calpol into her drinks! -

I like a nice twinkling light as well - coloured lights on the small one, twinkling warm white on the main for us this year

Today I got the main tree up - i didnt buy a real one in the end as I read too many threads where people were having issues so gave up on that. Had a nice shower.

Took dd to Oxford circus to see the lights - big mistake omg. We are finally home, it was RAMMED, tube stations were closing left right and centre. We are finally home - took a £10 uber ride half a mile from the station home as my feet were burning and dd had had enough

We are in bed now with sweeties and tablet time - i do feel bad, it was overstimulating for her. She did love the tube though, and the trip to lidl for snacks after. Maybe next year

Love to you all 🥰

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/12/2025 06:53

Morning! I forgot to send a pic of my tabletop tree.

Daily Project round 8
FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/12/2025 06:54

I think I need more baubles.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/12/2025 06:58

We are planning on going to Oxford circus in the next week or so @mumofoneAloneandwell . I am very envious you live in London with all the excitement and the vibe! But yes, i felt overwhelmed just reading your post! DS1 can't cope with crowds so I might have to give it further thought.

Peridot1 · 07/12/2025 10:05

You definitely need more baubles @FourSeasonsLobelia. I’ll try and put a picture of my main tree - couldn’t add one the other day for some reason.

Oxford Circus can be a complete nightmare at the best of times but at Christmas it’s total hell. I’m contemplating a trip up but not sure I can face it. We are an hour away by train.

Someone I follow on FB went to Battersea Power Station this week and it looked lovely and festive and she said it wasn’t too busy.

I did a bit more Christmas decorating yesterday. Kitchen is almost done. And dining area. I’ll put a few things in the hallway and maybe garlands on the bannisters but might not bother.

We have friends coming for a very casual dinner later today so I think my aim is to get everything done decorating wise and the boxes back upstairs. DH is cooking so I’ll just potter with the decorating. And tidying.

Have a great Sunday all.

Peridot1 · 07/12/2025 10:05

Oh it worked this time.

Lovely!!!!

Right- the mission du jour.

More baubles.

WinterFrogs · 07/12/2025 12:59

Lovely @Peridot1 😍 🎄

That's a brave move, Oxford Street in December @mumofoneAloneandwell But I'm the person who needs to go to bed and read, or have a bath to decompress after a couple of hours in our local town.
It's not very festive here today with mild temperatures and the rain beating down!
I have been on horse duty ( they are my sanity, even with added mud!) and have just emerged from a hot bubbly bath and now I'm clutching a coffee. No need to decompress after horses, but the grime from horse rugs and mucking out tends to get absolutely everywhere on a day like today!
I'm a weirdo who loves a bit of wild weather 😜
It's high tide about now and I'm tempted to wander down and watch the waves. So majestic when it's windy!
I should probably hoover and prepare food and clothes for the week though. How very grown up! I have been reading old pony stories and a bit of Enid Blyton. All set in the 1940s. Thoroughly enjoyable but it's making me feel about ten all over again as that's when I read them for the first time.

A bit of prep for the week I guess, then back to my books. I hope you are all having a fun and/or peaceful weekend ☕️ 🍰

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/12/2025 13:04

Ruby Ferguson @WinterFrogs ?

WinterFrogs · 07/12/2025 13:15

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/12/2025 13:04

Ruby Ferguson @WinterFrogs ?

I did read a new Jill book recently actually, but it was not written by Ruby Ferguson, but Jenna Spark. There's a Pamela Cox who's written extra Malory Towers books too, so it's becoming quite a popular trend.
The one I've just read was The Impossible Horse by Christine Pullein-Thompson, who was always my favourite of the pony story writers. Funnily enough there is a horrible scene in it which made my cry as a child, and I have occasionally thought of it since. The characters started to feel familiar and and two chapters in I thought it was the same book, and it was. I skipped the worst of it as it's hard to read, but it was just a couple of pages.
Have you heard of Jane Badger books? She's getting a lot of the old pony books reprinted or put on kindle which has made a lot of them accessible after years of being out of print. I'm very excited about reading a load of them again 😁
Sounds like you were into pony books too @FourSeasonsLobelia Did you have a favourite?

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/12/2025 13:19

I adored the Jill books. Then the Jinny books. Brief segue into the Linda Craig mysteries. But I re-read Jill and Jinny alot. My comfort blanket. Smile

I'm on Jane Badger's facebook page! She is doing a wonderful job keeping the books alive.

WinterFrogs · 07/12/2025 13:27

I went to adult books via Joyce Stranger, which were still animal based but aimed at a slightly older age group. Followed by Flowers in The Attic ( showing my age, and it hasn't held up well, but we all loved it in secondary school)
I think my reading choices are still not what Jill would term 'highbrow', though I didn't understand what the word meant at the time.
Love that you still read Jill and Jinty!

Aria999 · 07/12/2025 13:44

Love the tree pics! We have ours up too now. The kids helped decorate it but got bored half way though so not only is the color theme Miscellaneous but it could also probably use more baubles...

My kids were a bit like that back in the day. Now they do Christmas way better than me!
I saw your spotify thread @mumofoneAloneandwell and saw one or two others. Just checked mine and my listening age is 67 apparently.
