A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

oh my! @Mumtobabyhavoc quick thinking! @FourSeasonsLobelia - I hope the car-related woes are resolved. @Peridot1 hope last night was a refreshing night's sleep with no migraine-related @mumofoneAloneandwell - walking the cat - i am sure there is more than one meme in there 😸Everyone I've missed; Flowers
Today

  • can't believe I am interviewing today after a new starter didn't even start...
  • I have a Christmas wreath to make up but am bereft of ideas. I have some pine cones drying in the kitchen so we will see and I've just looked out at the yard and spied a pyracantha bush full of orange berries, I might pinch some of them.
  • need to message the builder about rebuilding a small exterior wall - we put them off while away
  • still not messaged bathroom people, must do today
  • desk needs a good old tidy
  • some ironing to do - I have a training course to do later so I will do it then
  • arrange when to go and get a xmas tree with the GNiece - we do end up with three trees, but no other decorations😄
Have a good day, SoE

Happy December 1st, everyone. 🎄🤗
It's cloudy and 4c here. Starting my day with stollen, figs and a latte. As one should. 😁
DC have just opened their advent calendars having eaten breakfast first which was the agreement. 😂

SoE- three trees?! 😂 Love it! 🩷
Very bizarre your new hire didn't show. How unprofessional! Rude, flaky, entitled and disrespectful are some other words that come to mind.

Petal, hope everything is going well in your world. 🩷

Peridot, migraines are a bit scary to me. You sound pretty calm, but I'd get it checked out. 🧐

Need to take Havoc for a haircut, but it just occurred to me, being Monday, most places are closed.

I think I'll do some medical admin for my mum that I've been avoiding now then off for errands.

Ooh stollen @Mumtobabyhavoc . Yum yum.
How did you get in with the wreath @SpiritOfEdna ? I made a wreath last week with a wire ring and foliage from the garden. Hopefully it hasn’t blown away today as it’s been really windy.
Today I’ve been to the dentist, taken the plastic and glass recycling , filled up with diesel, bought a few more stocking presents in Tesco and wrapped presents that need to be posted. I very rarely go to an actual large supermarket and it wasn’t something I’d like to repeat any time soon. (We get a delivery each week as we live quite a drive from larger supermarkets.)

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 01/12/2025 22:40

Flying by. I have a set of house guests all week and lots of Christmas things for the D at school and am feeling quite fuzzy of brain!

Aria999 · 02/12/2025 00:29

I want stollen and figs now, that looks divine!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 02/12/2025 06:57

Just checking in, ❤️ to you all in this lovely month xx

WinterFrogs · 02/12/2025 07:19

Hello everyone 👋
I have hidden AIBU and Relationships boards again.
I read a lovely line in my current novel at bedtime last night: describing a character picking up newspapers - 'but, growing tired of the to-do that was made over the perpetual ebb and flow of world affairs, he abandoned them'
Christmas prep moving on apace around these parts, I see 🤶
I received my Christmas card selection today. All twenty of them. They are from the horse charity that I support.
@Peridot1 it's the need to get everything tidy and spotlessly clean first that holds me back from getting the decorations up too. Procrastination, in my case 🙃
I hope you all have a lovely day 💕

FourSeasonsLobelia · 02/12/2025 07:22

Hi all- just checking in too. Thanks

Peridot1 · 02/12/2025 08:53

Morning all.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - that looks yum. I’ll get checked out if I get any more migraines but they are just one of those things really. It’s a family trait.

@SpiritOfEdna - I once bought a house as it was a three tree house! 😀

@WinterFrogs - I don’t know why I feel the need to clean first. After all the Christmas decorations hide a multitude of sins! My mum always got us clean the house from top to bottom on the 8th of December every year as it was a religious holiday from school so she had slaves. Most other people went shopping. We cleaned the house!

I didn’t get as much done yesterday as planned. No surprise there! Have quite a list for today though. First task is done - cleared out the fridge as our supermarket delivery is about to arrive.

  • laundry
  • dishwasher etc
  • clean front door and windows - we might put the outside lights around the porch today
  • garden centre trip for some red cyclamens and ivy for planters by the front door (and new door mats for front and back)
  • dust dining area and sitting area
  • start charity shop pile in one place - have a few things in various locations

I’m sure there is more but if I get that lot done I’ll be happy. Have a great day all.

Penguins Of Madagascar Hello GIF

Having been a frightful lurker (and finally caught up to date with posts) I'd like to pop my head in and say hi all waves

I am a shocking procrastinator and easily distracted by almost anything, it doesn't even have to be shiny. I'm also a prolific list writer. I say writer, but so many things on my lists get carried over to the next day, the day after that etc. etc. that I'm not sure it counts as actual list writing 🤣

I've just looked at today's and I have 27 things on it. Some of these are work related so really do have to get done otherwise I don't get paid, but the vast majority of them are home or admin. Now, my logical brain knows that 27 is just ridiculous as a daily target so I'm picking 3 non work related extras for today with no.1 being absolutely non-negotiable.

  1. Set up some online banking payees before people get angry.
  2. Actually fold and put away some washing rather than just throw it onto a nearby surface so I can reuse the airer.
  3. Find a particular knitting pattern for some card decorations I need to get done this week.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day 😊

Edit : blimey, that gif is bigger than I thought it would be!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 02/12/2025 11:08

Welcome @crivit ! You are very welcome and I recognise procrastination well.

Cute gif!

I'm about to gird my loins and tackle the ironing.

SpiritOfEdna · 02/12/2025 14:25

So my christmas wreath is going to look very rustic (aka homemade and shabby.) I found a many years old string of gold sequins, so I have woven them in and around the wreath. Pine cones are finally dry so I will dip them in some white acrylic paint and then maybe get some glitter on them (if I can find any) and attach; I think I have some gold spray paint somewhere so that is another option. I've got some wooden stars that normally go on tree number 3 and are hand decorated by the GNieces many many years ago with glitter and (more sequins) so I will attach them somehow and then put a couple of sprays of the orange berries and finally if I can find a small set of lights which I know are SOMEWHERE, attach them but if not, I'll leave them. LOL - that is me, queen procrastinator when I have a million and one other things I could be doing 😄
Today

  • keep checking my messages to see if bathroom/outside wall guys have come back
  • I have deconstructed a coat lining so I can replace it (I was quoted £100 to replace the lining on a coat I bought for £10 on Vinted. So far I have cut out the sleeves twice as the material is very slippy, but happy with today's effort. Tonight's job will be to sew the sleeves together
  • Need to measure in the bathroom to see how wide the vanity unit/WC can be
  • need to measure the floor as well to see how much flooring we will need as it's not on the quote.
That's all for today, have a good one, and welcome @crivit , SoE

Welcome @crivit !
I think rustic and informal is the right way to go with many things (generally in life not just at Christmas)@SpiritOfEdna so I’m sure your wreath will be brilliant.

WinterFrogs · 03/12/2025 07:30

Morning all!
Welcome @crivit 👋
There's some homespun wisdom right there @petalpower 💕
@SpiritOfEdna you have been quite the whirlwind!! I am impressed by your talk of the coat lining. I hope you workman guys get back to you soon.

Did you get the ironing done @FourSeasonsLobelia?

@Peridot1 consider yourself hugged re the 8th Dec cleaning conditioning 🫂 My own mother's stress about Christmas manifested itself with irritability and a lot of pressure to impress my paternal grandmother. It probably explains a lot about my own feelings around the festive season, and now mum is so frail it's made me feel very protective of her.

That stollen looks amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc! And Havoc's haircut reminds me that I need to book one too

👋 everyone else!

I had a very 'meh' day yesterday, but have done my morning exercises and put the summer weight duvet on to wash. So i am feel quite invincible today. The winter duvet is a bit too hot so I'll be changing it back once the the thinner one is dry. The tumble dryer is such a godsend!

My mum and granddaughter have both been making Christmas decorations, at the care home and school respectively. It's very sweet seeing the results. One of the activity staff at the home is a retired primary teacher, and she's all over the Christmas crafts! They all seem to have boundless every and enthusiasm which really rub off on the residents.

Ps it's amazing how cheerful the 'active' board here is when aibu and relationships boards don't show up. Highly recommend 😆 I have hopes for my blood pressure which has been showing a bit high 😎

Right, washing machine has finished. Have a great day all ☕️ 🍰

FourSeasonsLobelia · 03/12/2025 10:01

Hi all!

Hope you are okay @WinterFrogs Thanks

I am mainly on 'chat' with the occasional segue into tellyaddicts and food.

I did get the irnoning done! And I managed to spend Tesco vouchers on a few gifts. Plus some lights for the tabletop tree I bought yesterday on a whim.

YY to a background of stress and irritability @WinterFrogs and @Peridot1 . In my case though it was the maternal side of the family and all the rubbish toxic dynamics. My overwhelming childhood memories of Christmas were my mother being furious with us for not being perfect or 'showing her up' on the 3 hour drive to visit her family and then her sobbing all the way home because the whole event had been a shit show. I have a better understanding of how she was feeling now as I am an adult, and can better understand the sheer crap she went through.

Today I have bought a number of Christmas nibblies and my main task is to sample them tonight with the family to see what they like the most and can be repeated for the Big Day itself. Grin

Hope everyone has a very good day.

Peridot1 · 03/12/2025 10:01

Morning all.

Welcome @crivit. I totally get the procrastination. And the lists! And lists of lists! My Monday list often becomes Tuesday’s list and so on. I figure if it’s all written down and I get it done eventually it’s a win.

@SpiritOfEdna - can we have a photo of the wreath please?

Yesterday I cleaned the kitchen, did laundry and I’m not sure what else.

Today’s list

  • usual dishwasher and kitchen
  • laundry
  • change a bed
  • garden centre
  • some tidying in garden as it’s last dry day for ten days apparently
  • clean front door and sweep porch ready for lights etc.

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 03/12/2025 10:29

It’s VERY obviously home made 😂 I’ve ordered a set a new lights for it and I might put some more of the berries on.

No way @SpiritOfEdna it's gorgeous!! I love the stars! Very impressed with all your Christmassing around here. Our tree is coming on Sunday so I'll be catching up soon 🎄

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2025 13:18

So, I've gone down the Amazon rabbit hole... and that has been after I spent a couple hours looking at pics, reviewing presents, looking for a cake topper, ugh (style, and can't find right colour). Haven't slept a wink. Little one just woke up for a cuddle. 🩷
Both dc will be awake in a couple hours. 😵‍💫

SoE I always think of making a wreath - good for you! Looks lovely. Yes, to lights.

Okay. Right. Must. Sleep. Now.

Peridot1 · 03/12/2025 14:45

That looks lovely @SpiritOfEdna!

petalpower · 03/12/2025 20:04

Excellent work @SpiritOfEdna !
How are the migraines @Peridot1 ?
@FourSeasonsLobelia - sampling Christmas treats sounds like a perfect evening activity!
My dad’s care home do amazing activities too @WinterFrogs but I’m not sure dad joins in very much. I don’t bother looking at most other threads on here to be honest. There’s so much sniping and unkind comments in places and I can do without negativity.
Today DD and have decorated the house for Christmas which was just lovely. I do go a bit overboard with it all and particularly like lots of fairy lights everywhere! I also went to the post office to send Christmas parcels to people I won’t see and post all the Christmas cards.
Hope everyone has had a good day!

Peridot1 · 04/12/2025 08:56

A soggy good morning to everyone. DH says it’s going to stop later and wants to put up the outside lights today. Which might make me feel a bit more enthusiastic about it all.

@petalpower - thankfully no more migraines although I have been feeling a bit not quite right - lightheaded at times, funny vision and tinnitus so I had a video consult with a doctor and he has referred me to a neurologist. Which is a bit of a worry. I have an appointment on Tuesday. Thank goodness for medical insurance.

Yesterday I did usual kitchen, laundry etc. Changed a bed. Went to garden centre and bought red cyclamens and ivy. And actually planted them in the planters by the front door! Also gave the outside of the front door a quick clean. I’ll put the wreath up today. It’s not a nice home made one sadly but an artificial red berry one bought a few years ago.

Today’s plan:

  • usual kitchen
  • laundry - one load of bedding just finished
  • dust sitting and dining area
  • vacuum hallway
  • put up a Christmas tree in sitting area and maybe do kitchen although I want DH to put two plates up on the wall first so maybe I’ll do the dining area instead

Not trying to do too much and I’m not feeling comfortable driving so probably won’t do much else. Maybe write some Christmas cards.

Have a great day all.

petalpower · 04/12/2025 12:48

That sounds worrying @Peridot1 . Thank goodness you’ve got a neurologist appointment so quickly. Hopefully they can give you some answers.
I’m just about to head out to decorate the village Christmas tree. It’s heavy drizzle and the weather app on my phone says it feels like 0 degrees C. I can’t think of much I’d less like to do to be honest but will put my community spirited face on and hope it’s done quickly! (It’s a big outside tree in the centre of the village.)

crivit · 04/12/2025 13:14

Well, I did the 3 things I mentioned on Tuesday (woo, success !) and I've also adjusted my bicycle brakes because they were getting a tad unresponsive... I can now stop on command again 😁 My phone then deleted my big list so I'm lost 🤯

Today's must do's are:

  1. Rewrite big list but on paper this time !
  2. Take a couple of things down to the cellar.
  3. Pay the two bills that I did the online setup for the other day.
  4. Buy a festive tree (and probably a poinsettia to put on a non-cat reachable shelf).
  5. Knit a small tree and make a card with it for a friend I'm seeing tomorrow.
  6. Oh, tidying, dusting, vacuuming, etc. This is a work in very slow progress.

I'm already on my 2nd load of washing with plans for a 3rd plus a dishwasher load.

@SpiritOfEdna Love the homemade wreath !

@Peridot1 That is a fast appointment turnaround. Maybe it's life stresses catching up with you but it doesn't hurt to get things checked out.

petalpower · 04/12/2025 19:34

Good to get your brakes sorted @crivit . Unresponsive brakes don’t sound good news!
I’m back from decorating the tree in the drizzle and cold and now sat in front of the log burner. DH is out in London tonight for drinks and dinner with his old colleagues so I dropped him off at the station. Fortunately DS is on pick up duty after midnight. Just the basics done today - laundry, dishwasher, meal planning and adding to online grocery order. The carpenter has been and finished replacing the doorstep too.
