A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

@petalpower SO RELIEVED you added "her request" onto "kitchen knife for MIL purchased (don’t ask!)."
😂😂😂😂😂 🔪🔪🔪🔪

As for the Italian... I once was about 75% fluent... a very long time ago, now. So, I've been using words/phrases here and there since Havoc was s baby then discovered the mass number of lessons on YT and now have been playing those often. There are some very good ones! I aim for 15-30mins most days and I put lessons on podcasts in the car a lot. I'm going to switch to French if Havoc gets accepted to French Immersion for school next year, but as the schools aren't in our catchment we'll be in the lottery for a place.
This morning baby was repeating a lot of Italian words which was super cute. 🥰

The new griddle arrived!!! 🤗

WinterFrogs · 15/11/2025 07:50

Good morning all. I'm not sure if Claudia missed us, or if i just missed it overnight. We've just had a bit of rain I think.

A very productive morning @petalpower Well done!

I love how you do so much with your children @Mumtobabyhavoc I believe what you are doing is building cultural capital - a phrase I'd never heard of till I came across MN.

Proud of you for walking out, @FourSeasonsLobelia. You don't need to be in that sort of atmosphere!

I have a busy day of going out to breakfast and dinner to celebrate various things 😊

Have a lovely Saturday everyone 😘

Peridot1 · 15/11/2025 13:37

Hello all.

Very impressed with the Italian @Mumtobabyhavoc.

We didn’t get hit by Claudia either too much. Just damp and dank really.

We are having our neighbours over for dinner tonight so this morning I have been to the supermarket on a hunt for lamb shanks. And other bits. DH is cooking. I am in cleaning and tidying mode. Have tidied and dusted the hallway and cleaned the downstairs cloakroom. Need to tackle the kitchen and sitting and dining areas and vacuum. It’s all just cluttered really so not too bad and won’t take too long. If I get time I’ll clean the lights over the island unit. I think I need to do them more frequently- maybe I’ll put it in the calendar for once a month.

I started some Christmas shopping yesterday. A few cards and two lovely decorative bows. And this morning some things for the Christmas food cupboard.

Right. Off to tackle the kitchen.

WinterFrogs · 15/11/2025 16:36

I hope you have a lovely evening with your friends @Peridot1 Lamb shank sounds lovely!
I am sitting up in bed with a cat, who is snoring 😆
Have vowed to finish my book before the weekend is out!
I also need to watch some videos for a work course.

So I am scrolling on MN 😳

How is everyone doing? It's very peaceful here. I can even hear birds singing, despite the snoring cat and the sound of my washing machine.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/11/2025 18:58

Add me to your dinner party Peridot! 😋
Hanging out in bed is my kind of day Winter. 🥱
Cultural capital, eh? Haven't heard that!

@autumnangel @mumofoneAloneandwell
Are you doing ok?

Lobelia, very troubling workplace. 😵‍💫 I'm so over bs like that. 🙄 It really says a lot about management, really.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/11/2025 00:22

Got a bit done today:
vacuumed, pulled couches out and vacuumed behind then wiped baseboards and lower portion of wall;
stripped bed and washed sheets; tossed new pillows in dryer and they're now ready for the bed; washed our rain gear; made a decent cooked lunch of baked pesto salmon with roasted asparagus and stir-fried brown rice with kale. Both DC at most of what was given to them. Win!!! ✅✅✅
Wiped the stove and cleaned under the top; drip trays now in the dishwasher which is doing it's thing. 😁

FourSeasonsLobelia · 16/11/2025 07:36

Hi all. Mmmm.... lamb shanks! And salmon with pesto! Two of my most favourite dishes.

Out with the DCs for a bit of lunch and Christmas shopping. I bought myself a Tommy Hilfiger wallet which i will give to DH to give to me. Grin (That was how i justified the expense anyway).

We had mulled wine as the markets were up already. Well- I had mulled wine as the only over 18 member of the family present. I bought a few bits and pieces and plan to wrap them today.

Today- uniform wash and dry for the week.
Wrap as many presents as I can manage before losing the will to live
Order presents for godchildren in Australia.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2025 09:57

Hello all.

The lamb shanks were very nice. Served with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables and steamed broccolini. Followed by cheese and biscuits. And too much red wine.

Kitchen is almost back to normal and dining table is cleared and tidied. I love the morning after we have people over - gradually getting the place back together and it’s normally cleaner and tidier than normal!

Dishwasher is emptied and back on. I have a load of laundry to put on and I’ll run the vacuum around. Yesterday I cleaned and tidied the utility room and washed the floor in there. Also cleaned and tidied the hall.

Not much planned today. Might go for a walk. Might not! I fancy a lazy afternoon on the sofa with magazines and a book.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 16/11/2025 14:14

Hello all. Despite storm Claudia's best efforts I made it home on Friday night after my three days away. Was very nice to see my D & H again, absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that! Spent Saturday mostly parenting and tidying the house generally, today we finally managed to host PILs for Sunday lunch away from the care home and everyone was delighted. Not looking forward to the colder weather ahead!

Season 8 Nbc GIF by The Office

Hey everyone

Havent been on mn so much this weekend, trying to be more present and practicing gratitude 😌

Put up a shelf in the living room - need more and went all the way to ikea today to find that they were out of stock 🙄

Tried to sell armchairs but can't even give them away for free 😅 - they're just stacked in the hallway waiting for someone to want them - dcat loves them though

Dd is poorly again, and off her food, trying to keep my cool as I think its just a cold this time 🙏

Vacuumed the flat
Did washing up
MUST HANG LAUNDRY, I've already washed this load twice but have zero energy to hang it up

No school for dd tomorrow so want to get her out for some fresh air at least

Love to all and will catch up on the thread ❤️❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2025 00:02

Single, sounds so nice getting PIL out like that. 🩷
Mumofone, glad you pipped in. 🤗
Can you order from Ikea?
I can drive to two here, but it's a good 40 mins 🙄, so I tend to just browse their site and think about what I'd like, but need to see IRL before buying. 😂

Tired today. Took my mum to hospital last night and didn't get home until just after midnight. All seems ok now. 😅
Got excellent care. In just before 9pm, triaged, ekg, bloodwork, doctor, ct-scan, doctor, home.
Have got kids napping - late - but, they need it.

Tidied storage closet and vacuumed yesterday. Small load of laundry today. Re-watched the first three episodes of Manifest on Netflix that we binged during lockdown year, or thereafter, and two episodes of Parenthood (almost done season 3).
I recommend both series. ☺️

SpiritOfEdna · 17/11/2025 15:59

Hello another flyby from me. Getting ready for annual trek to Cornwall - drive down on Wednesday and return on Sunday.

Finally got someone to come and look at the outside of the house to take it back to brick and repoint.I will possibly need to sit down when the quote come in. 😂

we have a big drip coming from the front upper bay window 😢 gutter boys booked in for 25th - that will be a busy day as the bathroom boys will be with us on that day

Need to do some food shopping for next couple of days and then start wrapping birthday gifts and Christmas gifts for the Cornwall crew.

But for now, SpiritDoggo needs a walk, while there is still some daylight, SoE

Good morning! Hope mum is feeling ok @Mumtobabyhavoc and all is ok with your little girl @mumofoneAloneandwell 💕

Big 👋 to everyone else!

I am trying to get going with good morning habits and a daily thing but not doing so well.

The house will do but it's not company ready. Family ready maybe....

I have a pile of clothes to sort, and clutter has crept into the kitchen so that is my mission for the rest of the week.

Happy Tuesday 🍰 ☕️

Peridot1 · 18/11/2025 10:07

Hi all

Hope everyone is well. Feeling a bit lazy at the moment. Still a bit sniffly etc after my flu. Or it could be allergies and I need to dust more…..😄. I should be going out for walks but I hate the cold so struggling to get motivated.

Yesterday I changed a bed and washed the bedding, cleaned the kitchen, did laundry, re measured for a rug for under the dining table and ordered it, switched a picture out over the tv, made lots of cups of tea for our poor landscaper who was working in the cold. And helped DH with some of the applications of wood preservative on the inside of the garden room.

Today’s list:

  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • change a bed and wash bedding
  • clean lights over island in kitchen
  • order some paint samples
  • message decorator about repainting some of the kitchen….🙄
  • check my passport validity

Have a great day all.

petalpower · 18/11/2025 10:33

Hope your mum is ok @Mumtobabyhavoc .
We are back visiting the oldies for a few days so no projecteering going on. I’m trying to do a bit of Christmas shopping online whilst I’m here though. I brought masses of Christmas presents to distribute here to family we won’t see again before the big day.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 18/11/2025 11:19

Hi all- best wishes to everyone and all your loved ones. Thanks

I am doing a major tidy today as it's the only day I am home this week for the whole day.

DH is working away from December to about March (coming home every second weekend about) so I am also going to sneakily schedule in a skip. Mentally planning what I have to skip. That's giving me a sense of joy!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 18/11/2025 11:22

PS- I am making the mistake of watching Food network while I wrap presents / tidy the upstairs etc. It's in full Christmas mode with glorious roasts. I am thinking rather Hmm about tonight's dinner of beans and eggs on toast. (DCs have a cooked lunch at school and I am trying to save some money).

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 19/11/2025 08:00

@SpiritOfEdna ,happy Cornish travels, and 💐to everyone else. I have four days that are mostly meeting-free so I can focus on some work deadlines and reports but I will also try to do a couple of things around the house that are weighing on me. Hence this morning post for accountability! So for today -

  • two loads of laundry
  • try to get the make up stain out of D's bobble hat
  • list three items on the local selling /donating groups.

Wish me success! I wish you all a successful day too!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/11/2025 12:45

Not much going on for me girls 🥰

But I did get shutters! Finally, we've been here 6 months without them

Hugs to all, will catch up this evening, gonna have a lovely soup and scroll xx

Daily Project round 8
WinterFrogs · 21/11/2025 06:55

Morning all! A frosty fly by as i should have left the house already but waiting for car to de-ice.
Best wishes to all xx

FourSeasonsLobelia · 21/11/2025 07:32

Lovely shutters!!

Frosty here too!

wishing you all a good day. x

Peridot1 · 21/11/2025 11:42

Good morning all. Frosty here too this morning.

Your shutters look great @mumofoneAloneandwell.

Have a lovely time in Cornwall @SpiritOfEdna.

It’s been a bitty week with not much achieved here. Wasn’t very well on Tuesday and Wednesday with a cold. Although it may well have been exacerbated by allergies as all I did was sneeze on Tuesday. Didn’t do much on Wednesday either. And had a lovely festive long lunch in Covent Garden yesterday with a good friend.

So today needs to be a getting things done day.

List:

  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • laundry
  • change my bed
  • vacuum including sofas
  • clean lights over island in kitchen
  • wash paintwork on kitchen island
  • clean kitchen windows
  • water plants in greenhouse - or remind DH to

I feel the need to do a full house deep clean before Christmas decorations etc go up. So I’m starting with the kitchen today. Just having a coffee before starting.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 21/11/2025 20:22

In bed with dd who is poorly again! The school called me to pick her up, I feel bad for sending her in as she didnt look well

Still, we are in bed next to the new radiator and shutters, nice and cosy, watching corrie and she is making her usual noise and has eaten some jelly beans so hopefully this will pass quickly

Its been a weird week this week hasnt it @Peridot1 must be something in the air. Hope youre better and enjoyed your long lunch 🙂

@WinterFrogs 👋, hope you managed to get the house company ready - i know what you mean, mine is fine but when people are coming, its definitely not fine at all

@SingleThreadJoiner2 were you successful? X

@FourSeasonsLobelia thank you 😊 - have you scheduled the skip? Reminds me that I need to book a bulky waste collection! I do love chucking stuff away, feels so good 😭

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope your mum is okay? X - ikea didnt have what I wanted available for delivery - chucked dd in the car on monday and made the drive and had a wonder around with her in the trolley.

Got the ikea fatigue towards the end 😭 and just wanted to leave but we got the eket units and a stuffed monkey and cat for dd, and some candles

@SpiritOfEdna hope youre living it up in Cornwall

Love to you all always ❤️

SpiritOfEdna · 21/11/2025 20:37

We’ve had snow on the beach yesterday and a glorious day today. Tonight out at a Rick Stein restaurant for nephew’s birthday meal and tomorrow a very long walk on the Camel trail and drive back Sunday x

Ooh - snow on the beach and Rick Stein @SpiritOfEdna !
Hope DD is ok @mumofoneAloneandwell .
How’s the Christmas clean going @Peridot1 ?
All ok here. Very cold and frosty. DH’s car was completely frozen shut this morning when I went to try to put the blowers on before he took it to the garage. Note to self: must buy de-icer to keep in the house. DD and DS have now gone up to visit oldies - seeing all grandparents and also their aunts and uncles. Bless them, they’re very good as it’s not a top trip.
Busy few days since getting home from oldies trip - picked up senior Petaldog ashes from the vets, Christmas online shopping, emptying laundry basket, boring household chores caught up on.
Planning a quiet weekend.
Love to all.
