A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Hope today is easier than you fear @WinterFrogs .

What colours jumper and top @petalpower ? I need a bit of a revamp of my wardrobe and spent some time yesterday scrolling through colours and styles but at a loss.

VERY annoying about the car bingle. xx

Great to see you @autumnangel Thanks

Waves and hugs to all.

I am working all this week on a temp job that I discovered yesterday is riddled with toxic office dynamics. Such a joy to only be exposed for such a short time but I do feel for the people there. Most of them look grey and hunted. It was a tough day with people taking me aside and trying to draw me into factions. Im only there till Friday!!

Must away- school run in 20 minutes then to off to earn a (teeny tiny) crust.

SpiritOfEdna · 11/11/2025 09:18

Morning, a flyby from me and a chortle re the gifs/memes if there was one about throwing laptop out the window I'd be right on it.

Today

  • send a dress back - DONE
  • return another one to store, maybe after work tonight
  • mend a bra
  • gym kit needs washing & drying before tomorrow
  • modify a car rental - I don't know why I didn't select to pick the day before when we always leave super early in the morning - now I have to wait for another refund.
  • Empty wardrobe of summer clothes and leave room for big woolly scarves
  • Pick up all the socks on the floor and put them away as well as all the pajamas (clean!) that are hanging around
Busy long day ahead at work, so that's all for now, have a good one, soE

Morning all.

Some of my list was achieved yesterday but not all. As per usual. Did do a few extras like dusting in the dining and sitting areas. And DH put a couple of pictures back up in the dining area.

Supermarket shops is just arriving so will help DH with that. Then do normal kitchen etc and find some laundry to put on and put some away.

Extra today will be moving a book shelf and all its books back into dining area. And start washing down kitchen units.

Have a good day all.

Hi everyone ❄️🎄❤️

Dd has had a 2nd successful day back at school! One thing i promised God when I was at hospital with dd was that I would make the most of our move into London and go out and do things with her

So tonight, I took dd to nandos 😭 (better restaurants are available)

Just to try and get her used to eating out again. £20 it cost me for 1/2 chicken, two sides and a drink! I didnt order anything just shared with dd, but omg I remember when that meal cost £12!

Anyway she was overwhelmed and didnt want to eat at first, then she insisted on sitting on my lap while I fed her her chips

We must've looked odd as we got some glances but I feel like I am just so grateful to be in this new phase that I am over judgement

Gonna have to make dd some sausage rolls now to fill her up for bedtime but I am feeling positive ☺️

Growing up we rarely ever ate out so want to have that as part of dd's routine

Also today:
Picked up some ikea units
Emailed some schools
Painted a wall. Needs another couple of coats but glad to have gotten started
Bleached my bin which was needing it

Tomorrow:
Return some packages
Clean clean clean
Try to assemble said ikea units
Laundry

Here's a gif of Monica dancing, for good luck 🥰

@FourSeasonsLobelia i'm already obsessed with your work drama 😭👀

@petalpower hope you and the family are doing okay - sorry about someone hitting your car!

@WinterFrogs don't work too hard!

@Peridot1 youre going to new york?! My second fave city, its on the bucket list

@Mumtobabyhavoc my dd loves YouTube now, she likes to watch people cooking and swimming 🤭🤭

Love to you all always, and welcome back @autumnangel ❤️❤️

I hope you survive the week @FourSeasonsLobelia ! I can't imagine working in the same place all day, every day. Awkward people are best in small doses.

Congratulations on two days back at school for dd @mumofoneAloneandwell I can feel your love for her in your posts 💕 I dance like Monica when nobody's looking 😎

Big cat is very cross about something this evening. He is giving me the cold shoulder and has parked himself facing the wall.

Oh @petalpower you are such an inspiration! I aspire to being the sort of person who boils a chicken carcass for stock. I do it very occasionally but I prefer buying bags of stock from Waitrose. For someone who doesn't mind clearing up after animals of all descriptions, I'm surprisingly squeamish about handling meat. That's me admitting I'm a bit 'overheard in Waitrose'. DH is a Tescos man. Sorry about your car.

I'm still living down the dent in mine from reversing into a village war memorial.

Laptop behaving badly @SpiritOfEdna ?

I survived a busy day. Nothing out of the ordinary achieved at home, but I did manage to tick along ok. I've promised DH I'll order him a pair of jeans this eve. He's very capable of shopping in shops but online clothes shopping evidently eludes him. He's gone to football. The cat has now forgiven my trespasses, whatever they were, and is asleep on my lap.

I should tip him off and wash up from dinner but cat is very comfortable...

Peridot1 · 11/11/2025 22:44

@mumofoneAloneandwell - sadly no I’m not going to NY. I was a bit confused for a bit as to why you thought I was. I had to book taxis for our New Year holiday. Not NY.

Taking dd out to get her used to it is a great idea.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/11/2025 01:31

@mumofoneAloneandwell you sound amazing. 🩷
So glad to hear about this progress. Actually going out, is huge. 👏

Sending love and support to everyone. We all have challenges and this thread is a lovely place for support if needed, or just chat about other things to get our minds onto something else.

Took dc to a small Remembrance Day ceremony this morning. Left me a bit frazzled trying to wrangle them, but survived. Made choc chip pecan banana bread once home. Mountain of laundry beckoning. 🙄

Peridot1 · 12/11/2025 09:25

Choc chip pecan banana bread @Mumtobabyhavoc? On my way! That sounds delicious.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 12/11/2025 09:28

Greetings from the train, on my way to on site work for three days. (two nights away). Have used the time productively on wordle, duolingo, and some PTA admin (I am the secretary now). Should probably move on to work emails now...

Peridot1 · 12/11/2025 09:28

Morning all.

I have just done the dishwasher and will give the kitchen a quick wipe around once I’ve finished breakfast. Today’s one and only task is tackling DS’s bedroom. Deep clean time. Cleaner is in today so I’ll tidy out his bathroom first and let her in there to clean. Planning changing bed, tidying out rubbish, dusting including walls, vacuuming etc. and doing windows. Pre Christmas deep clean.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/11/2025 10:35

Hi all- I'm at home today. I am afraid i walked out of the toxic job as it started to look like i was being set up as a scapegoat for something (Easy to blame the temp). The temp agency were very supportive and said they have had issues before and will take the workplace off their books.

So an unexpected 3 days free! I have more work lined up in the next few weeks so that will be good.

I have washing, uniforms to sort out and will tackle the Room of Doom.

I think I might bake something too. Hmmm....... I have a banana. I have chocolate chips.... I might channel our esteemed @Mumtobabyhavoc

mumofoneAloneandwell · 12/11/2025 11:52

Hey everyone

Drop off done, picked up my bookshelves that I bought on ebay. Met a lovely man who helped me arrange my seats to get them in the car. Was the craziest drive though, 90 mins each way, so much traffic

Taking a break from hauling them up the stairs with a well deserved scroll

So glad you got away @FourSeasonsLobelia - hard agree xx

@Peridot1 😄 sorry for the confusion! I have new york on the brain at all times 🙈

Thank you all for your kindness re dd 🥰 have a lovely day 😘

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/11/2025 12:05

Hugs to you @mumofoneAloneandwell Thanks and to your beautiful DD. xx

petalpower · 12/11/2025 17:54

@FourSeasonsLobelia the jumper is dark grey and the top is navy and white stripes - not very adventurous! Unfortunately the parcel that should have had the top in arrived empty so I’ve had to arrange a refund. What a nuisance.
I’m really not as impressive as you first thought @WinterFrogs as I just pulled the meat off the chicken carcass and then threw the bones in the bin! Making stock is such a faff.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/11/2025 18:29

Morning all. I'm a bit grumpy today. I'm pretty sure I have a sinus infection based on the sinus rinse I did when I woke up. This is week 4. 😢

My banana bread tecipe is super easy. I bake it in a square cake pan that I grease and flour. Bake at 325f for about 70 mins.

Bowl 1
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 table spoon baking powder
sift together

Bowl 2
1 cup mashed banana
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
2-3 teaspoons vanilla
3 eggs
mix well after each ingredient

combine bowls
1/2 cup choc chips
1 cup chopped nuts

Peridot1 · 12/11/2025 22:38

@FourSeasonsLobelia - sounds like a good decision to leave the temp job. One of the benefits of being a temp is not having to be involved in any office politics. I was a temp on and off years ago. Most places were ok but some were iffy.

I am going to try your recipe @Mumtobabyhavoc.

So today ended up eventful. Was doing DS’s bedroom and opened one of the windows to clean the frame and it was infested with ladybirds. Hundreds. Got DH to help deal with them. Even after he’d used the outdoor vacuum and I cleaned I was still finding more creeping out of crevices. Then once we’d sorted that and I’d cleaned the windows I noticed the curtains looked a bit lobsided. The support for the pole was just about to detach from the wall. That took a while to sort and it’s only a temporary fix. Have someone coming tomorrow to look at it to fix properly. Remind me why I don’t deep clean too often! Last time I tried to deep clean his room I did my back in!

petalpower · 12/11/2025 22:41

Ouch @Mumtobabyhavoc a sinus infection sounds horrible. Will you need antibiotics?
Today’s achievements:

  • tidied away senior Petaldog’s bed :(
  • updated the Christmas card list
  • filled in new diary with dates for next year
  • descaled the kettle
  • 3 baskets of ironing
  • online admin for charity I’m a trustee of
  • started wrapping Christmas presents ready for our visit to oldies/family next week
  • cleaned the bathrooms
Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/11/2025 23:52

Thanks, Petal. I am prine to getting them due to a deviated septum. 🙄 The protocol is sinus rinses several times a day, stay well hydrated and get rest. Antibiotics aren't prescribed for them as readily now (here, anyway). I'm okay with trying self-management for the time being, but it sure explains why I still feel run down. It has also affected my taste/smell which is affecting my coffee drinking experience. 😢

Purchased another Christmas present from Amazon. ✅
Replacement toy for Havoc arrived today. ✅
Book ordered hasn't arrived, but my Amazon history shows delivery November 2nd. 🤔 Need to sort that.

Had the kids up to Burnaby Mtn for a hike around this morning. We covered just over 1.5km with hills and playground which is a lot for little legs on a chilly day. Finished just as rain was starting. Got back just in time to get lunch made and put on a Zoom meeting on a dementia topic I signed up for, but it turned out to be too basic and not what I thought, so turned it off. Have another next week. The meetings are free education through the Alzheimer's Society. Wondering if you have something like that there? Mentioning since others on our thread have mentioned parents with dementia.

Peridot1 · 13/11/2025 13:51

Hello all

Hope you are feeling better @Mumtobabyhavoc. Sinus infections are not nice.

I am feeling shattered today. Woke at 5.15. Had a PT session. Did some laundry and emptied the dishwasher. I think that might be it today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/11/2025 17:13

Peridot, Don't be so ambitious! We must pace ourselves. 😁 Bath, slippers and a cuppa now! 😉

Peridot1 · 13/11/2025 17:17

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I had a nap on the sofa…….

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/11/2025 17:48

Peridot, now you're talking. 👏

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/11/2025 21:08

Not enough sleep last night and my eyes feel so tired despite coffee. Managed a huge load of laundry this morning washed/hung up and put away the clothes still hanging from two days ago. Cleaned 2/3 of the bathroom, wiped door frame, baseboards, baseboards in hall and lower part of wall so currently is free of marks etc. ✅✅✅

Made pancakes for breakfast on griddle Amazon has agreed to take back. Ordered a new one from a different brand which should arrive today. ✅

If I can get my printer going I'll print off the return label and drop the griddle off at the courier. The courier will print the label for a charge otherwise. Amazon said they'd refund me if I have to pay that. ✅✅

Did 90 mins of "school" with dc after breakfast (Italian and phonics). ✅✅

Now making lunch then plan to take dc out for the reat of the day/early evening to a couple of events. Ordered another Christmas gift. ✅✅

Might get Christmas lights up this weekend even though it's still early for me to do it. 🙄

Took kids to Lumiere last night and for a burger at Fatburger. Attended the art gallery exhibit. There are several sites around downtown. So, humming along here atm. ✅✅ Lumiere

Italian @Mumtobabyhavoc - that’s very impressive!
It has poured with rain here for the last 24 hours and was really dark all day. Very autumnal. Did a proper Petalerrand trip out this morning: Christmas stamps purchased, recycling dropped off, butchers and greengrocers shopping, prescription picked up, query at doctor’s surgery about an ECG result, replacement jugs purchased, salt for water softener ordered, kitchen knife for MIL purchased (don’t ask!) as per her request. Finished wrapping Christmas presents and writing cards to take for family visit next week.
Hope everyone has had a good day and those in the UK haven’t been been washed away by Storm Claudia.
