A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Thank you for your kind words everyone. It’s very sad how many of us in this group have family who have been affected by dementia.
I’m back home now and am back on the projecteering. Yesterday I booked a Christmas delivery slot for 23rd December and bought my first Christmas present online. I need to have a large portion of Christmas presents bought by the middle of November when we next go to the oldies and it has just struck me how close that is!!

Peridot1 · 17/10/2025 17:09

Hello all

Lunch sounds good @FourSeasonsLobelia. I’m sure DH will appreciate it.

And I know what you mean about being overwhelmed by tasks and thinking and stressing about them rather than just doing them bit by bit. I’ve been a bit like that about swapping out summer-shirts and shorts from two drawers to make space for jumpers. Finally just did it bit by bit. I think I get that I want to do a big job all at once but it’s actually easier to do bit by bit. Especially for my brain!

Well done on the painting prep @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Today was a bitty day here. Gym this morning. Then got a message saying the new kitchen blinds could be installed today if I wanted. So I cleaned the kitchen windows and cleared off the surfaces. Did some laundry. Three out of four blinds are in. One needs different brackets. While the guy was here he also hung a coat rack in the utility room for me which just arrived and wasn’t part of his job description! DH would do it but it would take him a while.

Just cleaned the kitchen tops counters again after people standing on them. Will put the kitchen back together in a bit.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2025 17:32

If anyone is interested, this is the prep and repair. Counter was replaced and the trough is the join between counter and wall. I taped either side then used spackle (Dap, the pink stuff) to fill using my finger to press it in and smooth it. Then peeled the tape off (waited s bit too long, should be done as you go). I wear tight fitting medical gloves and keep moistening my finger with a wet paper towel as I go when applying the spackle. It's like pressing putty into the space.

This year seems to have flown by doesn't it @petalpower!
We keep Christmas simple and I aim to have presents bought and wrapped by the end of November, before I run out of enthusiasm.
My children's inlaws are all big on Christmas and family gatherings so I alternate between feeling very inadequate, and being happy that we can be the more restful house to visit, if they choose.

I am impressed by all the achievements going on round here. Your day sounds really nice @Peridot1 I need some new winter boots. You have reminded me!
Sleep has not been great since dropping the medication, but the pain is no worse so I'll continue with trying not to use it. I expect the sleep will sort itself out. Now i lie awake worrying about what the pillow speaker is doing to my brainwaves. Never a dull moment 😆
I am going outside now to breathe country air. I hope you all have a lovely weekend 😘

autumnangel · 18/10/2025 20:09

Hello all 👋

@petalpower Sorry to hear your dad has dementia - I know what a horrible disease it is
@Mumtobabyhavoc Well done on the painting, send some motivation my way please if you don’t mind!
@FourSeasonsLobelia - Lunch sounds lovely what did you make?
@Peridot1 - You achieved lots yesterday well done!
@petalpower - You reminded me of a thread I saw on the Christmas board about what tasks people have achieved for Christmas. I did think I should probably consider jumping on there and doing one small thing a day towards getting organised for Christmas
What are you doing for Christmas this week? | Mumsnet

Today I've been for coffee with DM and my aunties which was lovely. I'm home now watching the end of Titanic and cooking duck pancakes for dinner.
I refuse to spend the whole evening in front of the tv though and will get up and start on tomorrow's to do list. I really want to get some routines established and stop running around like a headless chicken all the time. Maybe that can be my 2026 new years resolution. 🤔

What are you doing for Christmas this week? | Mumsnet

^Disclaimer - yes I know it’s early, but this is the Christmas Board. ^ Over the years I’ve worked out a 12 week plan for myself so I can get it all...

WinterFrogs · 10/10/2025 15:58

I'm clearly not doing admin because I'm here, procrastinating 🙃
But I have achieved quite a lot.

@mumofoneAloneandwell I think you are the same age as my youngest daughter. I wish I could give you a hug 🫂

Ed to say, not a stalker, promise, just you mentioned age or school year or something at some point on here

Edited

Oh I didnt see this @WinterFrogs , thank you 🥺❤️

Sorry I must've seemed like a dick for not replying, but i've started reading back now and didnt see this post

I'm 33 - and would gladly take your hug!

No new news really but finally got a bit of breath back today - covid wiped me out! Me and dd lost actual days just coughing and sleeping. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, it was hell.

Managed to clean some of the flat and get a a small food shop for dd delivered. It literally was a struggle to bring the bags upstairs due to being out of breath. Would strongly recommend the covid jab this year to everyone

mumofoneAloneandwell · 18/10/2025 23:14

FourSeasonsLobelia · 09/10/2025 13:58

@mumofoneAloneandwell Thanks

Hope so much you are okay and DD is okay. xxx we are here for what you need, if you need to talk or just have our love winding its way to you via cyberspace. xx

Thank you loads for this message. I saw it at the time and really appreciated it but should've replied ❤️💕

I am always grateful for this thread x

mumofoneAloneandwell · 18/10/2025 23:39

Hey everyone ❤️

@petalpower I was sad to read about your dad, i'm sorry, it sounds so tough. He has given much to the earth in the forms of you and his grandchildren which I hope is a small comfort, even if hes having more bad days with remembering ❤️

You all are more organised re christmas presents than me. Ive got one thing in mind for myself dd and thats a barbie dream house. Still looking on vinted for the right one

@Peridot1 your day out sounded so nice, I think i need to treat myself as well. Might just take myself into regent street while dd is at school.

@Mumtobabyhavoc well done on the DIY! My bedroom is half painted, the paint is even under the bed waiting to be used. Will try to get some more done next week, fingers crossed.

@WinterFrogs sorry about the sleep issues after coming off the medication - hopefully it'll pass. I'm the same, laying worrying about health. That and war coming to the UK 🙈😔

@autumnangel duck pancakes sound amazing - I need routine as well, me and dd definitely do

Today i managed to tidy a little. Tomorrows plan is to wash dd's hair, vacuum the entire flat, clean dd's bedroom/playroom, put away laundry and put another two loads on
And to relax. One day at a time

Love to all always, and to anyone not mentioned ❤️ 💕

petalpower · 19/10/2025 00:02

@mumofoneAloneandwell Covid sounds rotten. I normally get the vaccination ( heart condition ) but this year the surgery said they’re only giving it to people who are 75 plus or are on chemo. I got the flu vaccine though.
You’re right @WinterFrogs this year has raced by. I don't know where the time has gone.
Today I’ve helped organise and run a village event in our tiny community. Apart from that not much achieved. DD has an eating disorder so I’ve mostly been supporting her as she’s having a rough couple of days. She usually does really well (long term condition) so this is a bit of a wobble.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/10/2025 00:03

@petalpower if you can get it cheaply privately, definitely do it 🥺 - i had covid before and it was nothing like this, not to scare anyone

My love to your dd ❤️

autumnangel · 19/10/2025 07:12

@mumofoneAloneandwell - that sounds rough hope you and dd and feeling better.
@petalpower - sending hugs and strength to you and your dd, and praying this wobble doesn't last long.

I've woken up this morning and decided today I'm going to fake it til I make it and just pretend to be the organised stress free woman I dream of. I've made myself a manageable to do list that includes going for a walk, reading and seeing family as well as getting organised for the week ahead. I always think I enjoy watching tv and doomscrolling as a way to relax but actually it just makes me feel awful so I plan to find other ways to relax and not spend so much time on MN
On top of the daily things I plan to:

  • 1/2 hour clean in my bedroom
  • Buy new makeup
  • Chose a new audiobook (any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!)
  • Complete the governments 'Tell Us Once' thingy to let the relevant people know DH has died
  • Take nephew window shopping for some birthday / christmas ideas

Wising everyone a lovely Sunday ❤

FourSeasonsLobelia · 19/10/2025 07:25

Hi all,

Lovely to read the posts this dark morning. Hope everyone is well.

@autumnangel you are doing so well. You really are impressive with your strength and resilience. Thanks . ❤Hope you have a lovely Sunday too.

I made for lunch- a green salad with rochefort cheese, walnuts and pear -creamy mushroom crepes with baby new potatos followed by an apple and cinnamon tart with gorgeous vanilla custard from Waitrose.

I have to get my flu and covid jabs also..... am dreading it. I've never been bothered about jabs but after so many during the acute covid years I have developed a fear. I need to pull myself together!

@petalpower Thanks to you - hope your DD is okay. Eating disorders are brutal and you must be so worried. I am thinking of you. xxx❤

Love to you all. @mumofoneAloneandwell I hope you are both much better now and have a good and restful Sunday. Hope also you are on the mend @WinterFrogs xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/10/2025 07:43

It's the end of my day here, lovely people. 🩷
After a very late night last night with dc at Pumpkins After Dark we spent the whole rainy day today indoors at home. I was so tired and managed a bit of a nap with baby who slept 2 hours. My accomplishments were: vacuuming, vacuuming one couch, removing cushions and moving couch to vacuum under/around; a large load of laundry washed and hung up; and after the dc were in bed I bleached the bathroom floor. Had been wanting to do it for a while as the tiles and grout were getting so dingy. It's overdue for new grout, though. I have touched up some bits here and there, but the whole thing needs to be done now. I've now got all the white towels/washcloths on to wash and am airing it out here with the patio door wide open. It's still pouring rain, but quite soothing. I'm going to sit up until laundry is done so I can put it in the dryer. I've got Netflix on to keep me awake.

Love and support to those that need it. I'm so glad to have found all of you on this lovely thread. 🩷

@petalpower if you can get it cheaply privately, definitely do it 🥺 - i had covid before and it was nothing like this, not to scare anyone

My love to your dd ❤️

I am seconding this! @mumofoneAloneandwell you have all my sympathy and solidarity, it took me three weeks to feel properly recovered and it was grim. And scary. Though in the interests of fairness I should say that my husband and daughter were absolutely fine within three days so it's hard to know how it will hit you.

Sunday hugs to everyone else especially those supporting family members in various ways 💜

Work is really intense at the moment so little time for much else, we are just about keeping on top of laundry. Oh and I ordered a lego set for D's Christmas present.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/10/2025 12:29

Happy Sunday everyone 🍂

Up today and managed to empty the bins. Got dd some more kinetic sand after vowing that I never would again after she got it everywhere. She seems happy with it.

Hoping to make a full English in a bit, been craving one. Then I want to vacuum and put away the various shopping bags that have accumulated on the stairs and landing.

Then I want to try some phonics practice with dd as I think she can handle some.

@SingleThreadJoiner2 thank you, I can't believe how bad its been! The breathing struggles have been terrifying 😳. Glad you have recovered, hopefully i will be done then in a week and a half

Thank you @FourSeasonsLobelia your lunch sounds lovely 😍. Definitely do get the jabs if you can

@autumnangel agree re the doomscrolling not actually being that relaxing. I'm trying to finish To Kill a Mockingbird, as I never read it at school. I always feel like i'm missing something by not being constantly online, but i really am not 😄. Have a lovely sunday

@Mumtobabyhavoc you get so much done, I am always in awe. Ive also got a load of washing in the machine that youve reminded me needs hanging up to dry- will do so today

Love to all always ❤️ xx

Peridot1 · 19/10/2025 12:52

Hello all. A rainy Sunday here.

I had my flu jab but not Covid. Wasn’t planning on having it but maybe I should given how ill some of you have been with it. Will have a think.

Hope DD is ok @petalpower.

@autumnangel - you are doing so well. Enjoy your window shopping. Sounds lovely.

@mumofoneAloneandwell - yep doom scrolling is not good is it? And so easy to waste so much time. I used to read so much more than I do now.

Lunch sounded delicious @FourSeasonsLobelia!

Waves at anyone else I have missed.

I was up all night stressing about a few things. We had new kitchen blinds installed on Friday. I hate them. Made a stupid mistake and listened to DH and am regretting it. Went with a roller blind behind fake Roman blinds as DH didn’t want full Roman blinds in the kitchen. Looks ridiculous when roller blind is down. He is not happy I hate them.

And although we are almost finished painting the garden room I think I hate that too. Not sure of the colour now. And more importantly where we put it! And we can’t exactly move it! It is to the side if the house in the back garden and was sitting against a wall of overgrown cypress trees in out neighbour’s garden. They cut the trees down this week. So while I am happy I don’t have to worry about them falling now it has made the garden room look very in your face. I took a photo yesterday and sent it to my sisters and I think it made it look worse than it is though. But I had that spinning around in my head all night! It wasn’t quite as bad as I remembered when I went out it this morning though and I have had ChatGPT do a plan to try to connect it all a bit better. So I feel a bit better although I know it’s not going to be a quick fix. It will be a big project. And expensive!

So not much planned here today. Emptied the dishwasher and had to rewash a lot as I switched from dishwasher tabs to eco friendly sheets and they are rubbish. Have a small laundry load on. And then might have some lunch, rehang some curtains and go and have a soak in the bath with a g&t and my book.

Have a nice Sunday all.

WinterFrogs · 19/10/2025 12:58

Hello everyone! Sorry to hear how covid has knocked some of you for six 😔 DH gets the vaccination due to some medication he's on. I wasn't going to bother as I'd have to pay. Probably should though due to him and vulnerable mother and brother. It does seem to be a nasty strain.
Yes, same age as my daughter @mumofoneAloneandwell Virtual hugs available any time 🫂
What a lot you've achieved @Mumtobabyhavoc 🌟 I can't get over how much you accomplish with two small children!

Funny old day here. Heavy rain is forecast but it's currently dry and mild. Beautifully autumnal.

I'm catching up here. Cleaning fridge while DH is grocery shopping. Had visit from offspring this morning which was lovely and a bit chaotic. Peace has descended now they've gone. The silence is loud!

Now I fully intend to have a big old potter. Will throw bedding into the wash, make a vat of soup and plan meals. We're always happy with two planned meals and the resulting leftovers. I am a functional cook. Littlest likes my meals which is a win. The freezer is looking a bit crumby so I'll deal with that too.

Best wishes to you and DD as you navigate the eating disorder wobble @petalpower It's very hard isn't it?

Solidarity to you @FourSeasonsLobelia 💐 Thanks for the good wishes. I am feeling less lame today. Sleeping with a pillow between my knees has helped more than the medication did. I have quite a surge of energy but that won't last as I've cut out sugar cold turkey so the withdrawal will hit in 3...2...1. But hopefully the feeling of wellbeing will be back by Thursday.
I'm not good at just cutting down on sugar. It has to be all or nothing.

Right, today's thing that will stay done is the kitchen window that's attracted clutter and dead flies. I have been remiss of late.

Best wishes to you all ❤️

Ed due to a missed tag

WinterFrogs · 19/10/2025 13:14

Cross posted with you @Peridot1 Sorry you're feeling so fed up. I wonder if what you need is a rest as it's all been full on and you sound quite overwhelmed with it all. See how you feel after a week or so living with the blinds and shed. You never know, they might settle. The book, bath and g&t sound like just what you need 💐

Peridot1 · 19/10/2025 14:49

Thanks @WinterFrogs. You might be right. My head spins with it all and I second guess myself and then DH insists on having opinions. Ugh. He asked last night when I was last happy with any thing I did to a house. I said when he didn’t get involved! Although I can’t blame him for the colour of the garden room. That was definitely me!

ChatGPT has come up with a nice plan for that side of the back garden so I think if and when we do that it will look considered rather than just like we plonked random garden buildings in random areas!

Curtains are back up. Am off for a long soak.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/10/2025 18:53

Good morning, everyone. Looks like the wind and heavy rain overnight did some damage as our power is out. I'm glad I managed the cleaning and laundry last night. 😅
I did admire the tiles this morning, although the grout is still not completely clean. It's looking untouched in some spots. The tiles look good, though.

Peridot, I agree to give it some tine and see if your opinion changes, or if you get some new ideas. Could current stress be affecting your thoughts? A break from it might be a plan.

I think I'll have to get moving as kids are a bit of a handful atm. 😵‍💫

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/10/2025 10:48

Morning all. Its a lovely raining one from London 🍂

Dd has just gone in, we had a sleepless night so shes late and unhappy about going in. Now off to asda.

Today's list is to vacuum like my life depends on it. And do something with my hair 😪

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend.

@Peridot1 you sound like you have decision fatigue 🥺, completely understandable - hope the soak was lovely and helpful

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope the power comes back on quickly for you, what a nightmare

@WinterFrogs i'm on the same journey of cutting out sugar and i'm exactly the same. All or nothing unfortunately. Glad the pillow between the knees has helped a bit with the pain

Have a lovely monday all ❤️🍂

Peridot1 · 20/10/2025 12:35

Thanks for all the sympathy all. Feeling a lot better now. The garden is a long term project and it feels good now to have a bit of a plan for that area. Even if it will take a while to get there. I’m changing the blinds though. I like to pull them down in the evenings in winter and the roller blind under the fake Roman blind just looks silly. It’s fine as a sun shade in spring and autumn when we get the low sun blasting in but not in winter. Might be able to reuse the fabric from the blinds as cushions.

Decision fatigue is probably right @mumofoneAloneandwell. I wouldn’t mind but I’ve used an interior designer this time to help avoid issues. And still I listened to DH. And the interior designer was his idea to avoid mistakes!

Hope your power came back ok @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Went out for a very wet rainy walk this morning. Hope to dodge the showers but failed.

Today’s list:

  • laundry - second load on
  • dishwasher - emptied and reloaded and back on
  • vacuum kitchen/dining/sitting areas
  • tidy and vacuum hall
  • Measure sitting area for a rug
  • maybe sort through pictures - we have loads lying around we haven’t put up and some to re hang that we took down when the painting was being done
  • book taxis to and from airport for next week
  • message aunts in Dublin about lunch next week

That will be more than enough I think. Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 20/10/2025 15:44

Morning; hurrah - car is ready so can go and pick it up😞Had to walk SpiritDoggo in the dark last night - when did that happen 😄

@mumofoneAloneandwell decision fatigue is such a good descriptor - stealing 😄

Today

  • go and pick up car - no more ubers #fingers&toescrossed SpiritDoggo will be so happy to get back into the car (as will I) 😄We can go to the beach
  • I've bought an organiser to track fitness and health - just done measurements. Planned food/exercise for the month, must book in refpilates for this week
  • make a smaller version of the Japanese knot bag to pop a gift in for a friend
  • we had a big hoover/cleaning session yesterday but need to put chairs back on floors, hoover back in cupboard, dishes away, recycling in outside bin so we can actually see the benefits of the clean
I've actually been and picked up car, it is running on fumes so a trip to top up needed but soooo happy 😄Have a good one, SoE

It’s rained nearly all day here and feels really autumnal all of a sudden. DH has finally agreed that today is the day to put the heating on! We tend to hold off as long as possible as we’re in an old draughty house.
Today I’ve applied for a blue badge for my dad, done a big pile of ironing, fixed some elastic in my pyjama bottoms and done some more online Christmas shopping. Gosh that looks very tedious when it’s written down!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/10/2025 22:33

Petal, have you re-done the sealant (silicone/caulking) around your windows? It helps (Inside and outside).

It was a busy day today (and it's only 2:30!). Got us all loaded into the car to drive across town for two medical appts (one mine, one for my mum). Then grocery store on the way home for milk and butter. Planning to make cookies. Just finishing lunch and a mediocre latte. 😿

It's 12c, but I turned the heat on when we got home. It's windy out and very damp from all the rain.
