A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Hello all, hope everyone is doing ok. It's a very dreich day here and I'm working this morning. I'm meeting BIL and DNeice for a work this afternoon so hopefully that will cheer me up.
I've done my usual Sunday lists for the week. Lots to be getting on with but nothing too pressing. I would like to set up a new Vinted account and start decluttering but I find it all extremely boring so will do a tiny bit every day.
Today's extra jobs are to set up Vinted account, tidy one shelf in my wardrobe and go through basket of greetings cards.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

WinterFrogs · 12/10/2025 18:22

That's a bummer @Aria999 😔 I think thyroid issues can really mess with your metabolism.

I have just read that a pain medication that i take could be linked with dementia. I would like to start weaning off it. Luckily only a low dose. I'm going to take it alternate days for a week and see how i go. It also helps with sleep and so I'm planning good sleep hygiene tonight, then read my paperback till my eyes start watering, then go with an audiobook book which usually does the trick.

Lovely visit with my mum today because we took her down to the cafe at her nursing home, and a couple of other residents joined us for a brew. We all really enjoyed a nice chat 💛

I hope you had a nice time with BIL and DN @autumnangel

Best wishes to you all. Hope the weekend has been kind to everyone 🙏

WinterFrogs · 13/10/2025 07:29

Monday already! I hope you are all well. I had a surprisingly good night without the meds, and it's not too painful because I propped the leg up on a pillow.
So today's task is to contact a local osteopath I have been recommended.

I have been sitting up since dawn doing nyt puzzles figuring out a staff rota with the help of t'internet.

Off out now, and wishing my car was an automatic.

I hope you all have a good day, whatever you're doing 💐

Peridot1 · 13/10/2025 10:36

Morning all. A dull and miserable Monday here.

Currently trying to decide whether to go to the gym or clean the kitchen.

Hope your prosecco perked you up @FourSeasonsLobelia. I like your style!

Sympathies on weight loss (or lack of!) issues. It’s hard. This getting older business sucks. I’ve done quite well over the summer with walking every day but finding that much less appealing in this weather. I am on Mounjaro but had stalled and the daily walks really seem to have made a difference. If I could just give up wine as well……..

@Aria999 - have you tried really upping your protein and fibre? Lots of water. And walking.

Today’s list:

  • load and reload dishwasher - done
  • gym or walk
  • clean kitchen
  • put laundry away
  • change a bed
  • clean lights over kitchen island
  • menu plan and shopping list

Have a great day all.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 13/10/2025 10:40

Morning all.

Hope your leg gets sorted asap @WinterFrogs !

Prosecco definitely helped @Peridot1

Today i have sorted out a phone contract because I was unhappy with our current provider.

Now I am ironing in front of the news.

Love to you all. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/10/2025 17:35

I have a lot of experience with diet/nutrition/exercise as an athlete and coach for years and would be happy to offer advice if anyone wants it.

Aside: my kids are playing on the deck and are wearing their Halloween costumes, both are same plush animals, and I just saw Baby hug Havoc and Havoc smile and hug Baby back. 🥰🥹

Also dealing with leg/hip/back pain. Getting trigger point injections and now trying prolotherapy.

Was on my feet all day yesterday cooking Thanksgiving dinner and cleaning (didn't help my back). Dinner was a success, though (duck, salmon, prawns, acorn squash, scalloped potatoes, dressing, gravy, apple pie, brownies). I didn't make huge portions, so am quite pleased to have just enough left overs.

Was up at 7 and got the dc breakfast, just left over pancakes with fruit, and put a load of laundry on. Have hung that up and now bedding has just finished, so will go put that in the dryer. Have got CNN on and watching the news about the peace deal for Gaza. Fingers crossed, but won't say more as our lovely thread is a calm respite from the rest of MN. 😅

Did all other cleaning yesterday, so thanking myself for planning an easy holiday Monday. 😃 It's sunny and 8c, but was 4c when I got up. Heat got turned on!

Peridot1 · 14/10/2025 10:48

Belated Happy Thanksgiving @Mumtobabyhavoc. Dinner sounds delicious.

I am shattered today. Could not get to sleep last night. Was still awake at 4.30. Might be a quiet day.

Yesterday I cleaned the lights over the island unit in the kitchen. Then when they were switched on I realised I need to do them again……. a bit smeary still. Cleaned and dusted the wine rack and book shelves in the island unit and the mantel over the cooker. I need a good cull of cookery books as I am losing a book shelf which stored a lot of them. And I have far too many. Also washed some bedding.

Today:

  • dishwasher- done
  • change a bed and wash bedding
  • clean lights over island unit again
  • clean kitchen windows
  • chase re new kitchen blinds being installed
  • organise return of coat hook rack to Amazon as it arrived damaged
  • outside painting I think although it’s dull and not warm

Have a great day all and hope everyone is ok.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 14/10/2025 10:53

Morning and Happy Thanksgivng @Mumtobabyhavoc !!

I am having a few people for lunch tomorrow. So today is cleaning and getting ready. I can't motivate myself right now so am buying a handmade ham and chicken pie from a deluxe bakery which I will serve with mashed potato, honey carrots, minted peas and then a black forest cake also from the bakery. I simply don't have the bandwidth to make anything much from scratch.

The house looks like a bomb hit it so it's a full day of cleaning.

😩

Peridot1 · 14/10/2025 13:39

What time should I arrive @FourSeasonsLobelia? That lunch sounds yummy. Especially the Black Forest! We used to have that as birthday cakes growing up as my mum loved it.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/10/2025 14:12

come back to the thread to find my last post from a week ago still in draft format 😄Its been a busy week. Still no refund from the galleon, still no sign of my car coming back home! Just had a daytime bath - to be recommended 😄My boxing/sparring gloves finally turned up, now am waiting for wraps.

belated happy thanksgiving mumtobabyhavoc that food sounds delicious

Today

  • chased garage for news of my car - crickets!
  • busy work admin day - annual appraisals are coming up #sad #cantbebothered
  • SpiritDoggo had a bath last night she looks very fluffy today - it's teeth and ears today 😃
  • I am so very nearly finished with the painting by numbers painting of SpiritDoggo - never again !
  • get gym kit ready for refpilates tomorrow - I'll need to get a bus at the crack of dawn to get there, luckily the bus is currently on diversion 2 mins from the house
  • bathroom has had a clean
That's all for now, have a good one, SoE

WinterFrogs · 14/10/2025 17:59

Hello 👋
I am no less sound on alternate days with the nerve pain medication. I have upped the HRT and feeling invincible 💪
Prolotherapy sounds interesting. I googled it and found a clinic nearby which does it with dextrose and also a treatment with pure oxygen. Have you had any success with it @Mumtobabyhavoc ? Sporting related? I think mine is walking in mud last winter (horses) related and driving exacerbates it which i find most inconvenient as I can't walk too far at the moment either. Well, not at my preferred speed anyway!

Nowt achieved around the house today except making bed, emptying bins and swishing the loo. I have been out all day and not made a mess though so I will count that as a win.

All the dinners sound lovely! I am no host. Here you get bolognaise or corned beef hash, or go to the pub to eat. If I'm feeding numbers. I'll eat jacket potatoes or some kind of salady thing, left to my own devices.
Cooking is just for necessity in this house ( see also: haircuts and clothes shopping)

No I have not done mother's photo book, nor have I booked osteopath. I did pay £17.50 for parking today though....

Right, better bake a potato or raid the salad drawer. I beat dh home so im in charge of our tea tonight.

Have a lovely evening 😊

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 14/10/2025 19:14

Long work day in London today, went to the station straight from school drop off and only just on the train home now. I even wore proper work clothes and everything, not a hoodie or jeans in sight 😂Very productive but not in a house-sort of way! I would like to eat at @FourSeasonsLobelia 's too please, I love a good pie!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/10/2025 20:27

Peridot, lots done for no sleep! Hope tonight is better for you. 🩷
Lobelia, that meal sounds delish!!!! Comfort food...😋
I'm another one fir Black Forest cake. Rarely have it, so would be such a treat! 😀
Spirit, so much in your post! Worrying about car; Yeah to boxing gloves; 👏 to your productivity. ❤️

Winter: calcification & tendinopathy. Accident & likely years of sports related & age & genetics & female ... all causes. 🙄. I have done prolo with dextrose twice now. First time about a month ago, pain increased for about 3-5 days, then hip felt good, then sore again. Doctor upped dextrose 2nd time almost two weeks ago and pain has not subsided much. Sleeping on that side hurts. Feels unstable. 😭 I am going to give it a couple days more, but will try 2 weeks anti-inflammatoriez next, I think. Doctor said if it is going to work most people notice improvement after 2 treatments, but up to 6, especially women. I don't think I want to do it again. And it's $100 each time. 🤔

Gorgeous day here. Was 4c early this morning. It's sunny. 🤗 Kids are running up and down the hall. Need to get outside with them. 😬

petalpower · 14/10/2025 22:27

Can I come for lunch too @FourSeasonsLobelia ? Sounds delicious!
I haven’t been on here much recently as I don’t really feel as though I’m doing much projecteering and don’t have much to report above the basics. We’re
back visiting the oldies again - staying with PIL and visiting dad and stepmother’s care homes. Feeling a bit sorry for myself as my dad seems to be going downhill with his dementia and today’s visit was just really sad. He was very disoriented and muddled but not distressed or agitated which I am relieved about. He thinks I’m his sister and doesn’t recognise any of the grandchildren on photos or really know their names. He thinks his parents are still alive and didn’t recognise my mum’s photograph (they were married for 40 years before she passed away). Dementia is rubbish :(

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/10/2025 22:41

Sorry to hear that Petal. How long ago was he diagnosed? It's really hard watching parents age. 🫂🩷

WinterFrogs · 15/10/2025 07:26

Morning! Really sorry about your dad @petalpower It is such a frightening condition.

I've also done little in the way of projecteering, with so much going on outside the house. I need to do some ironing, as like @SingleThreadJoiner2 I have been wearing 'proper clothes'.
I hope you get relief from the pain @Mumtobabyhavoc

Got to get going. Have a great day all

autumnangel · 15/10/2025 10:42

Morning all, I haven’t had a chance to read back but hope everyone is doing ok. I’ve been quite productive this morning. I had 2 things on my list to do - cancel DH’s car insurance and go through the freezer. Both of which I have done. Both need a follow up though (go to the dump and send an email) and this is where I tend to fall down as I don’t finish off the full task. I’ll head to the dump just now then I’m taking my niece and nephew out for the day so the email will need to wait but I have promised myself I will do it this evening.

Hope everyone has a lovely day

petalpower · 15/10/2025 22:35

Sorry not to reply to you sooner @Mumtobabyhavoc . Dad has been in a nursing home for a year and was diagnosed with dementia about 2 years previously. He’s 84 now and really going downhill. It’s hard losing someone bit by bit. Today was our double visit day to dad and stepmother’s care homes. We go home tomorrow and I promise I’ll stop being a moaning Minnie and crack on with projecteering :)
Hope everyone has had a good day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/10/2025 04:24

Petal, no apologies needed. I understand your sotuation. My mum has dementia and I am care giver.

Wiped kitchen floor on hands and knees. Seems a losing battle to keep it clean. Something stained it and I can't get it clean. It's like a bloody life metaphor. 😔

WinterFrogs · 16/10/2025 07:31

Quick fly by this morning. Just best wishes to everyone with all that you have going on.

I have to make an appointment for the optician and dentist. I also tried to make a GP appointment with the app they insist on using, but as usual it's saying not available at present. DH has been trying to book one for weeks and neither condition is urgent enough for 111 or 999, and it's not something for a pharmacist either. Frustrating.

I can hear geese flying overhead. My heating has just kicked in. Dogs barking in the distance and the faint sound of traffic. And my next door neighbour's TV. Not loud, just the day springing into life. Time to get up!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 16/10/2025 11:09

Hi all.

So sorry about your dad @petalpower . It's so hard to witness. I hope you are okay. Thanks

Lunch went well, but i may have overdone the wine a bit. Blush

Today is finishing the cleaning and tidying and helping DH do some chores that require a ladder and me standing by to ensure he's safe.

Peridot1 · 16/10/2025 11:27

Hello all.

Sorry about your Dad @petalpower. Dementia is bloody rubbish. My mum had it too.

I had a nice day out yesterday - hair cut and colour and some shopping. New boots, a top and some skin care bits. Cleaner was in while I was out and DH was cooking a beef stew when I got back so back to clean bathrooms and didn’t have to cook. Nice. Was tired after a couple of nights of rubbish sleep so early night and slept well. Up early this morning.

Today:

  • laundry - one lot done and another on
  • dishwasher and kitchen
  • walk - done
  • maybe painting outside
  • curtains back up in sitting area possibly
  • book airport taxis for my Dublin trip at the end of the month
Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2025 07:51

I finally got around to a bit of painting prep in my kitchen again today. I taped then spackled the troughs where wall meets counter and some dings in the wall. I'll sand in the next day or two then assess if more needs to be applied before painting. It took about an hour including clean up. Will be taking car to shop tomorrow to get checked as it didn't want to start today.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/10/2025 08:18

Morning all.

I honestly think I need to start channelling my inner @Mumtobabyhavoc as i get overwhelmed by tasks and sit and think about them more than I actually crack on and do them!

Today I am taking advantage of the fact our dining room looks beautiful (and that DH starts our tax return next week and uses the dining room to do that) to make us a delicious three course vegetarian French-inspired lunch. DH has been vegetarian for years and usually cooks for himself but I feel the urge to really push the boat out. About to google recipes.....

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2025 15:54

Lobelia, note that my last post said, "I finally got around to..." 😭 My painting project started when pregnant in Sept 2023...😂
