Labour isn't working - Thread 7

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The civil service only gives internships to marginalised groups now. It recruits for grad jobs on a 2:2 in many cases.

This is ridiculously cavalier. Having smart, well prepared people in those jobs is crucial for us all. We are in desperate straits and this is no time for social engineering. We simply don’t have any margin for error left. We need the best of the best. “Fairness” for the candidate doesn’t come into it. It should be what is best for the public. If it’s some swotty Asian kid whose doctor parents put him through private school and closely managed his homework- I am all for it!

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 11:06

Yes I agree with you @EmpressoftheMundaneon KB and NF

Makes sense however each month that passes brings more bad news for Labour and economy so it's a fairly big gamble.

Absolutely.

I suppose they are also hoping to form and float policy in the interim too.
Evidently AR didn’t get the memo…

Time value is simply the probability that an options value will increase prior to expiry - in Reeves’s case she is gambling that the bond markets will settle down by 26th November.

Had she called an earlier budget, the time value would have been less. It’s plain to see what she is doing - it could easily backfire however.

Maybe she thought things couldn’t get worse and now all she could do was hope for a bit of luck. Feels like a “Hail Mary pass.”

I don’t like this. As far as I can see, she is not a lucky person.

Rishi Sunak? Though pharmaceutical parents. They came here with v little and their son ended up being PM. Amazing country. Yep agreed. But shushhhh 🤫 very few people seem to agree. Maybe on this thread propose it elsewhere!

Funnily enough people still want qualified doctors. For example. I don’t suppose they ask where the doc went to school before S/he saves their life.

Absentmindedsmile · 05/09/2025 11:27

Locals seem to be quite angry that the council are responding this quickly to this graffiti, but consistently ignore their requests for other graffiti removal.

Very good!

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 11:47

Ooh looking likely for Rayner Times radio

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 11:48

Yep she’s gone. Sunny days

IDareSay · 05/09/2025 11:49

Yes my DH has just said "big Ange has gone" followed by "oh, hang on a minute, no she hasn't!" Grrr!

He has some form of talk radio in his ear all day while he is working on the house (currently laying new floor in futility room...).

IDareSay · 05/09/2025 11:49

Is it now confirmed?

ladybirdsanchez · 05/09/2025 11:51

OMG she's gone!! It's in the DM (they always get the scoop first).

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 11:52

Telegraph has it too.

I’m reminded of that very funny Icarus vape in a boat post. Turned out to be true 😬

’Huge blow to Starmer and Labour’ - on Times radio

Searching4Alpha · 05/09/2025 11:52

Happy Friday everyone!

Well it is now 😁

Now we've just got to get rid of the rest of them ...

Happy Friday everyone!

Off to buy more fizzy wine! 🍾

ladybirdsanchez · 05/09/2025 12:01

Tried to post a gif of Whoopi Goldberg singing 'Oh Happy Day' and it failed. Oh well!

TheNuthatch · 05/09/2025 12:03

Sky just confirmed. She's gone. She's also stood down as deputy leader. Resigned from all 3 positions.

Yes they are derided on MN but always get the scoops

I can’t cheer for her self-inflicted demise, personally. I feel sad for her as a fellow w/c northerner who’s done well enough. It had to happen though, the moment she dumped her northern constituents and then had dodgy tax dealings, she was on jelly foundations.

Re-shuffle incoming 👀

I'm a northerner and she has never represented me. I actually resent how she is a self declared role model for Northern women. We have never ever been in short supply of role models!! There is a long tradition of strong northern women and I don't need Rayner to represent me or speak for me.

Absentmindedsmile · 05/09/2025 12:07

It’s like a game or a match. Obviously winning is the most important thing, but you want the opposite team to play well enough. Labour are scoring so many own goals it’s a white wash. No one really wins at the moment. (Except train drivers).
