Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond BrewCakeBiscuit

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

So the consensus seems to be that working class female Labour party members have to be whiter than white when it comes to public and media scrutiny?

Unfortunately that seems to be the case.

It’s shouldn’t be.

It’s not fair and certainly doesn’t meet democratic fairness imo.

i listened to Tice this morning on R4 when driving to work. He’s a useless mouthpiece who just uses words with no meaning but that will stick.

The defence of Farage's tax affairs is reminiscent of the Johnson days

Indeed. It’s strictly legal so ok, despite it being deeply immoral. But Labour have to be both legal and moral or they are evil incarnate.

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2025 15:55

Now confirmed

Cooper to FCDO
Mahmood to Home
Lammy to Justice

Especially Diane Abbott.

Lalgarh · 05/09/2025 15:58

Lammy also Deputy PM

Goldenbear · 05/09/2025 16:01

Yes, so did I, I was surprised that the BBC was actually challenging his empty statements!

Listen to Tice on R4.

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2025 16:03

Also the first time the three great offices of state (FCDO, Home, CX) have all been held by women at the same time.

Listen to Tice on R4.

Must I? I really don’t think I could bear it.

bombastix · 05/09/2025 16:16

Cooper will be good at FCDO. Mahmood at HO is also a good move.

Lammy… he’s underperformed and now been given Justice. Demoted

potato08 · 05/09/2025 16:18

Thank god Lammy is no longer Foreign secretary
He's an embarrassment

Alexandra2001 · 05/09/2025 16:18

Shame, Mahmood seemed to making in roads into the mess left by the Tories, Justice dept is vital, for most people, way above Foreign office in terms of importance ie Prison, sentencing and time to court.

I hope Rayner can come back before the next GE.

To be fair to Lammy Starmer has done a good job of usurping his role. I’m waiting now to see who gets Housing and Local Government. Fulfilling the manifesto promises on house building is really crucial over the next 3/4 years.

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2025 16:26

Labour Party general-secretary confirms there will be a deputy leadership election.

Apparently the song Andrea Jenkins sang was NOT Insomnia but something she made up herself.

Lyrics "I’m an insomniac, I’m an insomniac,

Staring at the ceiling, waiting for my thoughts to switch off,

Yes, I’m an insomniac, I’m an insomniac,

And all I can hear, is the sound of that God. The sound of that God,

I’m an insomniac. Yeah, I’m an insomniac."

All perfectly normal.

Oh well. Starmer wasn't listening to me.

placemats · 05/09/2025 16:29

Mahmood is excellent at anything she does.

Piggywaspushed · 05/09/2025 16:33

Are we overlooking the fact that Lammy went down well in the US?

itsgettingweird · 05/09/2025 16:34

Goldenbear · 05/09/2025 16:02

Listen to Tice on R4.

Yes I was also surprised.

He would not answer whether he believed Starmer was the same as Kim Jong Yun because he knows how ridiculous it would sound but continued to argue that he had turned Britain onto North Korea.

Also challenged him on how had trust funds in the channel Isles to
avoid tax and about his partner being in Dubai. Although the Dubai started him in the 20% VAT on school fees but I had to get out the car and go into work so missed the whole ending!

No I'm not.

Pat McFadden takes over from Liz Kendall, who will be side shuffled.

Great news. Side shuffled to Secretary of State for paperclips, I hope.

placemats · 05/09/2025 16:38

Housing?

BestIsWest · 05/09/2025 16:41

I’ve already had an email from the General Sec of Labour saying there will be an election for Dep. Leader. Leaves a bad taste.tbh. I’m a bit furious with Starmer at the moment.

😂 apologies, that wasn't an order, I forgot to quote PP so it wasn't obvious what I was writing about!

No, I wouldn't bother, it's Friday night after all!

placemats · 05/09/2025 16:45

Pat McFadden's parents came from Falcarragh, County Donegal, both native Irish speakers, and I have been there twice during successive summer months as a teenager in the Gaeltacht.
