I am old enough to remember somebody pointing out that Iain Duncan Smith’s errors on his CV.

Badenoch claims to be clever, but her A levels were not amazing, and she’s a bit chippy about not being Oxbridge, imo.

I don’t think we should overlook Braverman’s contributions to a legal textbook.

I don’t think it actually matters too much. You don’t need to have certain degrees to be a leader. That’s what elections are for! You surely decide on their actual qualities, not qualifications?

most of it is just CV fluffing.
The interesting element is when the media/money decides it’s suddenly a worthy front page issue.

Cooper’s announcement is quite radical. It means an asylum seeker who is accepted for asylum must meet the same criteria as a British national seeking to get a family member to enter the UK.

This will be very difficult for any asylum seeker to meet. It will also make the UK quite unattractive to those asylum seekers who leave their families behind. The documents needed to prove this as well as the level of contribution will be very hard to meet, particularly if you have travelled all the way to France. You will not be able to use it in practice.

I find that a bit troubling. It sort of plays into the hands of the 'they're all young men' arguments as , actually, many come first in an effort to bring family later - usually by safer routes. This closes that door on them - so surely decreases the numbers of family groups? Or makes them risk coming with small children,, elderly relatives etc.

Well maybe. The issue is that you can’t then arrive first. It seems that Coopers new rules will change this to be even tougher.

I cannot see how an asylum seeker will ever meet the evidence. That would be too difficult to do. In practice it means you claim asylum somewhere far closer to your home country.
