Six people have been arrested after red crosses were spray-painted on a house while its occupants watched from inside.

We might get some visitors either way.

We know what to do if you’re right.

@pointythings I love Wide Sargasso Sea, totally agree that reading both casts a whole new light on Jane Eyre

I'm surprised how infrequently Ozymandias appears on the baby name threads.

Maybe we should suggest it on the, 'Looking for a brother for Nigel?" type threads.

MsJinks · 05/09/2025 09:14

Frogface has always been a lying, lazy grifter. I’ve always been of the mind that after his ‘man of the people’ acts he goes home to his gin and Cuban cigar (after suffering beer and fags for cash raising reasons) and laughs at all these buying into his bullshit.
I’m sorry that Labour haven’t been whiter than white in optics, as much as actions, and become open to these accusations in general, and I do feel a tad disappointed when such stuff comes up. I realise I feel less disappointed in Nige, or Tories, doing much worse. I recognise my disappointment is unfair, why do we let those grifters off and rage after Labour minor stuff - we should be equitable in our rage or acceptance really.
Personally think that whilst today it’s about the media pushing a terrible agenda, unfortunately AR has always been hounded for I guess having the audacity to be a working class woman in Parliament.
I’m mainly for her to stay, though I don’t know how much effort we should expect her to go to to understand HMRC rules that they themselves aren’t clear on, and when others have previously it appears managed to avoid heavy taxation/parliamentary rules, but maybe I’m wrong.
My view is not just because I voted Labour, I’m not a fan of some of their work/policies now tbh, nor am I as left at all as AR, but I think this is a minor error in the scheme of things in parliament as far as I understand it today, that is being corrected, and I don’t think anyone in any other party would be forced out for this, or hounded the same way.

Ozymandias Farage? 🤣

I'm one of those people who has a constant internal monologue and I have to confess that when I went on a mission to read Austen, my internal monologue temporarily adopted that style of speech. A sort of grammatical and syntactical earworm 😂

Must make daily life a bit more interesting ☺️

Sick of these flag shaggers and their videos - a fb friend reposted one I saw (and several I hadn’t when I looked at their page) and I followed it to its source, a quite old fashioned ex pit village group, to add my 2 pennerth of facts. I was quite pleased to find the group wasn’t totally full of fact ignorers and ‘illegal’ haters but there were a lot there.
I wouldn’t usually bother but I feel I should sometimes- I just put facts on, not opinions, such as getting migrants’ status’ correct, how many asylum seekers overall - not sure how useful an exercise it is though.
Re friends posting I want to delete them, but some are awkward to do this to - I added a comment on this one’s repost but it was ignored.
I will, however, be open on my own judginess on here - in a way I resisted on fb - the videos I saw - my Christ the folk on them 🙈 - I think most of them don’t even know what a migrant is and just want to be ‘in’ on the shouting though I think at least a few have definitely learned the term ‘illegal’ at some point in their lives. I’m really not happy being a judgy person, but struggle to avoid my thoughts - which I know is a big thing to the marchers/supporters of thinking myself ‘superior’ and not listening to them - how to not be is maybe my new mantra to learn after many decades of thinking I was not this person 🙈

I am sure there will be outrage........

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings?

Reform leader’s use of television star-style arrangement is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

It's 2025 and I have still no idea why people still trust Farage.

ilovesooty · 05/09/2025 09:33

I've discovered from Facebook while I've been away that some flags have appeared in my neighbourhood, including the adjacent street. Very depressing.
I have someone on my friend list who for various reasons I don't want to remove but I had to put them on snooze for 30 days as I really don't want to see their posts in support of what Rylan said.

I think part of his appeal is that, like Trump, he allows people to be openly racist.

There are some horrible threads on MN today, I hoped once the schools started back up we’d get a break. The worst I’ve seen this morning was someone aghast about a Manchester hotel that has homeless people at the same time as regular paying guests.
Gives the lie to the hotel shouter narrative that we should house our own homeless ahead of asylum seekers. It’s almost as if they only use veterans/UK homeless/women and children as a tool to excuse hatred of their current chosen scapegoat.

Yes, forget, 'politically homeless', I feel 'culturally homeless', if a majority (?) of people are starting to believe Farage is the way and the life!

Whatever the outcome of the enquiry today it really is a no-win situation. If it turns out that AR lied about her tax arrangements then the gloating will be insufferable. If it's proven that she was given bad advice, then there will be cries of 'two-tier-tax'.

I just want the truth to come out, whatever that may be.

It won’t be two tier tax, it will be whitewash and cover up. I’ve seen a post today about Magnus, the independent advisor, going on holiday out of school holidays - the man’s 70!

No doubt his pre-planned holiday is all part of the 'sham' too.

Yes, the pitch is already being rolled to cast doubt on a result that exonerates Rayner. Obviously it will be well considered and completely credible if it finds her culpable.

I feel the same but I don't think it's superiority it's disbelief (in my case) that we are in this state! Culturally, we (as a society) have lost the way; we don't seem to have the intellectual and emotional capacity needed to participate in a democratic society. We consume politics like it is entertainment and people have fallen for it. We want to be entertained and with its ferocious passion, Populism fits the bill, the media haven't caused this but even the mainstream channels now reinforce this variety of ‘politics’.

Angela Rayner is the latest victim of, Consumer Politics, the “journalists’ and some political pundits pretend to care for the truth and preservation of democratic values but when the BBC report referring to the graffiti outside or near her Hove flat, includes something about the people of Hove have shown their disapproval, you know the press are not interested in the ‘truth’ as actually, most people of Brighton & Hove (it is my neck of the woods) will feel nothing but disgust!

Exactly, if everyone knows this is how it's going to pan out and it will, what is the point in listening or watching the 'news' anymore. There is no journalism involved just a relaying of biased information!

Bizarrely, the only news article that made me question my doom and gloom on the state of the world was this one about Felpham Post Office,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0vr1eyd0vo

Maybe all is not lost..

A lollipop lady in the road with a sign saying stop post office on the move. In front of her crossing the road are people with granny bags and wheel barrows. A car is waiting behind

Felpham community carries stock to newly saved post office

People carried stock to their newly located post office after saving it from closure.
