I don't even want to think about Johnson's priapic behaviour. Spaffing was enough for me 🤮

Edited

I don't want to think about the repellent liar at all.

placemats · 04/09/2025 22:29

Norn Iron an Wales win in the footie. Happy days.

Kate Hoey giving her tuppence worth on Newsnight. Eye roll 👀

It's total scraping of the barrel. Daily Express stuff.

PickAChew · 04/09/2025 22:41

I'm one of those people who has a constant internal monologue and I have to confess that when I went on a mission to read Austen, my internal monologue temporarily adopted that style of speech. A sort of grammatical and syntactical earworm 😂

Billy Bragg has appeared

I don't like him for personal reasons.

Searching4Alpha · 04/09/2025 23:05

I just checked, as it was troubling me.

Ms Rayner didn’t need to consult anyone - the rules are written clear as day on the Gov website which she as Deputy PM should be reading at the very least:

If any of you will own, or part own more than one residential property worth £40,000 or more, you will have to pay the higher rates on your new purchase (unless there is another reason why the higher rates do not apply). Include any residential property that: is owned on behalf of children under the age of 18 (parents are treated as the owners even if the property is held through a trust and they are not the trustees) you have an interest in as the beneficiary of a trust

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/stamp-duty-land-tax-buying-an-additional-residential-property

Notonthestairs · 04/09/2025 23:07

Well there you go then. You can sleep happy.

Lalgarh · 04/09/2025 23:13

So he's trying to make a "backatcha" point about how All Them have complained about how "The Left" have played identity politics and the politics of grievance and now All Them Flag shaggers are doing it and it's hypocritical.

Well no, the whole reason All Them Flag Shaggers are doing it is BECAUSE of the identity politics of the more millitant advocates alienating ppl. The whole reason trump etc al got popular was as a reaction to the activists (be they bipoc, BAME, LGBTQ+ etc)framing everything as a struggle against the hated Majority . Blocked and Reported managed to find examples on an almost weekly basis in the US

that's why old school left wing stuff was about building mass consensus around broader things like class rather than a myriad set of client groups. Because there will always be a majority who get othered by doing that, who will listen to someone telling them that 'the gays/Muslims /minorities there get special treatment'.

This is majoritarianism

I really don't buy into that nonsense. The Civil Rights struggle has been going on vocally for many many years in the US and the gay and women's movements , too. This sounds like a brand of victim blaming to me. It's your fault, minorities - just be nice and quiet and don't speak too much otherwise you'll create the Big Bad Wolf. And it will be your fault.

The whole reason Trump got popular has got far more to do with the Rust Belt and him stirring up anti immigrant, especially at first Mexican, sentiment.

BIossomtoes · 05/09/2025 07:33

It’s straight out of the abusers’ playbook - “Look what you made me do”. No, you chose to do it, take responsibility. They don’t get let off the hook because minorities stand up for their rights.

I know we've moved on from discussing English Literature but watching/listening to the headline news this morning I can't help thinking of Shelley,
“Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.”

LlttledrummergirI · 05/09/2025 08:17

Trump and his special orders reminds me of Delores in Harry Potter.

It's ridiculous.

placemats · 05/09/2025 08:22

Richard Tice was to do away with useless and daft regulations.

I'm surprised how infrequently Ozymandias appears on the baby name threads.

Excellent comparison.

We should call him Dolores Trumbridge.

Ozzie for short. Works well, really. 😂
I too dislike Wuthering Heights. I also think you shouldn't read Jane Eyre without also reading Wide Sargasso Sea.

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2025 08:35

I am sure there will be outrage........

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings?

Reform leader’s use of television star-style arrangement is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

“Farage claimed last year to have “bought a house” in his constituency but the property is actually owned in the name of his partner, meaning he legally avoided higher-rate stamp duty on the purchase of an additional home – given he already owns other properties”

I await with bated breath the words 'Tax Evader' being scrawled across the front of his houses.
