Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond BrewCakeBiscuit

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

Across the road, “Tax evader Rayner” and “Rayner tax avoidance” have been graffitied on construction chipboard.

Which Aspiring banksy would actually spray out "avoidance"? Mind you. Slight curve ball but Rayner got chucked out of Unite, and there is currently a nasty industrial dispute with bins going on in nearby Brighton involving slashed tyres and bomb threats allegedly perp by GMB members so this could be an attack from the left. They loathe those seen as class traitors

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/may/29/brighton-bins-dispute-council-gmb-union-missed-collections

Our bins haven#t seen the binmen since December last year. It's agency crews thus far. One bin a week. Luckily all our refuse - recycling and the odd green bag - have fitted in over time.

Others are less fortunate, as the streets testify.

In terms of politics, no matter who is elected, this issue can't be solved.

'Fracking carrot' sounds weirdly sweary.

Lot of money to be made getting MAGA involved in UK politics.
Heritage/Koch Foundations etc have splash to cash.

Why do you think Farage is dangling the fracking carrot!

Follow the money usually has the answers.

BIWI · 04/09/2025 12:26

What was the deleted message about? (I assume one of our ‘friends’?)

It certainly does. I think it’s high time donations from foreign sources were made illegal. There’s plenty of time in this parliament to get that through.

Personal attack by one of them.

Eta: they seem to disapprove of swearing. This is Mumsnet, for fuck's sake 🤣

PickAChew · 04/09/2025 12:50

This isn't even an overly sweary thread!

Kemi's banning of the Byline Times is a bit like when the awkward kid tries to emulate what those they deem "cool" are doing in the hope of being noticed.

Absentmindedsmile · 04/09/2025 12:52

DuncinToffee · 04/09/2025 10:40

I disagree Pandora, yes Labour has to hold itself to much higher standards (although those standards should be that high across all political parties, especially since Johnson) but Rayner has to hold herself to impossible high standards.

Misogyny and snobbism

As for the other thread, I don't give a shiny fuck about them Smile

‘As for the other thread, I don't give a shiny fuck about them 🙂’

Oh don’t you? You’re not interested in opinions that differ greatly from your own? Bit blinkered that. Is that why you had my comment deleted? My comment that only repeated your comment? And something about living down to expectations.

It’s a funny old world. Innit?

You are of course incorrect. Twas not a ‘personal attack’ - I’d merely repeated what a pp had written. About not ‘giving shiny fcks’. But still the hypocrisy is a consistent reminder.

ilovesooty · 04/09/2025 12:58

I don't go on threads that I don't think I'd enjoy, with the intention of goading others. I've no idea what the deleted post said.

Notonthestairs · 04/09/2025 12:59

lurking to monitor posts.

But there we have the difference. There’s no goading. That’s your view. It’s valid. Everyone has one.

I think we should just ignore those threads completely. Then perhaps they'll do us the same basic courtesy. There are plenty of other threads where we can engage after all.

BIossomtoes · 04/09/2025 13:00

I nearly dropped my coffee this morning when I read this in - wait for it - The Telegraph. How on earth did it manage to get past the editorial team?

Again, judging by your own standards. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I wrote a post a few hours ago agreeing with a pp about a post she’d made. And backing it up with my view.

I don’t want to watch this thread and I won’t.

Bye lovelies and Bon chance

Notonthestairs · 04/09/2025 13:03

No equivalence here. I dont lurk on the I hate Labour threads.

And I'll continue not to engage on here with posters whose contributions I don't find constructive. I see no reason to speak directly to them.

I think that's a good and nuanced article. I am all in favour of simplifying the tax regime, as long as it benefits everyone and not just the wealthy.

Suggest you take it up with MNHQ instead of de-railing this thread any further

Ditto.

Notonthestairs · 04/09/2025 13:06

I think the Telegraph's vision of simplifying the tax codes might be more getting rid of tax.

Oh for goodness sake. Don’t tag me on a thread I’m not wanted.

But since you have - I wasn’t offended. I very very rarely report any posts. Was your comrade that did. For a post wording made by said comrade. Anyway don’t let the truth get in the way of your story. It’s Labour tradition I find.

As you were..
