Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond BrewCakeBiscuit

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

I think the Telegraph's vision of simplifying the tax codes might be more getting rid of tax.

That would be my major caveat.

And mine but the headline blew my mind, given the source.

See my post above if you're not happy with the deletion

For real? Sigh.

😂😂 as I said, I don’t really report posts. Your comrade did. About a post made themselves.

So sort it out with MNHQ

I'm not opposed in priniciple but I'd really want to scrutinise who was doing the 'simplifying"

Sort what out @Efacsen ?

I think that's a good and nuanced article. I am all in favour of simplifying the tax regime, as long as it benefits everyone and not just the wealthy.

The complexities are mostly there to benefit the wealthy.

Alexandra2001 · 04/09/2025 13:33

Having first thought AR should go, i've changed my mind, Fxxk em!!

The more i read about some of the hatred directed at her, elsewhere and on here, with one pp saying how much he enjoys seeing her suffer, i hope she says on.

The tax law she broke is in extremely grey area, i hope HMRC treat this as a genuine error, that she has tried to put right as son as she knew.

Why do women get so much shit flung at them?

I nearly dropped my coffee this morning when I read this in - wait for it - The Telegraph. How on earth did it manage to get past the editorial team?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/1a89f8718ce3eaea

I posted the link earlier today, but the thread moves so fast. Yes, could barely believe what I was reading and the main point was that the law is complex surrounding the issue. There's a distinct line between evasion and avoidance and I'm not sure Rayner falls into any of those categories. But I'm by no means a tax advisor.

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 13:55

A fan of the (arguably veering towards pompous)sophisticated written word might want to be educated that it is in fact bonne chance in order to use it correctly upon its next idiomatic trip out.

Meanwhile, I see conference season comes and Robert Jenrick is readying himself. The Overton window didn’t just move, it got smashed. The tacit assumptions that have supported liberal public policy over the last 30 years are breaking down.

Jenrick now objects to legal migration and talks about net emigration. It’s clear where we will be heading next.

Just remember that Robert Jenrick enabled someone to avoid paying at least £30 million to the public purse (see Westferry housing development). Not £40k because of bad legal advice.

Efacsen · 04/09/2025 14:00

Kitty Donaldson from the i says Keir Starmer may get the report from his ethics adviser about Angela Rayner tomorrow.

NEW: Senior Government sources are playing down reports ministerial watchdog Sir Laurie Magnus could send Sir Keir Starmer his report into Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner’s tax affairs as soon as today. One Whitehall source said tomorrow is more likely.

Yeah Mate as everyone who voted Labour (Greens or Lib Dems) is a communist! What is the prerequisite for voting for Reform, an IQ below ?

Look. It’s lovely to feel so wanted on this thread. It’s very sweet. Really it is. But please stop tagging me.

But. As you did. Please deconstruct your obscure message for me.

I’m not quite sure what to make of it @Goldenbear .

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 14:20

She didn't tag you; she quoted you.

Not sure why you are (repeatedly ) calling posters 'comrades' on here unless you're trying to imply Communism.

I'm not Goldenbear and I think that's a pretty obvious deconstruction of her reply to you.

The complexities are mostly there to benefit the wealthy.

More than likely, but that makes it all the more likely that they will use any simplification to grab additional slices of the pie.

I love this wardrobe from IKEA. It's a sturdy bamboo and the door is sliding.

Tag / quote 🤷‍♀️.

If only Angela Rayner had been so pedantic about her tax affairs.

I prefer the ones in Business Class. Simple but effective.

I'm thinking of taking the Rivera night train to Penzance from Paddington, spending the day there and then returning. Obviously will book a cabin both ways. A treat I wanted to do for my 60th, but COVID intervened. A tick off the bucket list. Has anyone else done this?
