Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

That’s so sad about the shooting. How terrified those poor students must have been.

DuncinToffee · 28/08/2025 08:15

Disinformation being spread on multiple platforms, a 12 year old girl, and a fundraiser has been set up, depressing

I saw that yesterday. The initial version was that the children were approached by a 'migrant' and they then produced weapons to defend themselves.
Seems it was a bit different in reality.

Free Speech latest is that Reform's Nottinghamshire county councillors have been banned from talking to the local newspaper by the Reform leader, the newspaper will not receive updates and will not be invited to cover local events.
That seems normal.

itsgettingweird · 28/08/2025 08:38

Does no one who spreads this stuff wonder what the fuck a 12yo girl and her sister are doing carrying a knife and an axe around.

That’s perfectly normal, isn’t it? Don’t most parents check every morning to make sure their kids have got their axe with them? I hope they’re done for possession of offensive weapons.

itsgettingweird · 28/08/2025 09:10

I’m just imaging the leaving the house routine….

got your keys? Phone? Axe?

But in all seriousness I’m getting worried that parents will actually start condoning this and saying it’s necessary for their kids to protect themselves and it’ll lead to a greater problem including an increase in general knife crime because if they’re carrying them …..

was watching GMB this
morning and their minister did a really good clear interview and Kwasi actually said the hotels were a Tory policy and decision. Him and Johnathan Ashworth both said the issue is the public want radical but radical isn’t that easy in practice.

Kind of matches what we’ve said - Farage can say he’ll deport 600,000 but actually being able to do it in practice …. I wonder who he has lined up to blame for that?!

BIossomtoes · 28/08/2025 09:23

Kwarteng actually acknowledged that? Hats off to him, that’s exceptional honesty.

itsgettingweird · 28/08/2025 09:35

Yes I was quite surprised.

However I’ve been quite surprised by him in general since his GMB slot as he’s totally different as a person away from being an MP/minister.

BIossomtoes · 28/08/2025 09:46

He did a really good interview on The Rest is Politics Leading. I found myself thinking he must have had a fit of the head staggers when he agreed to be Truss’ chancellor.

Agree FairPlay to him.
awful news about the school shooting can’t imagine what the parents & children are going through.

BIossomtoes · 28/08/2025 09:52

I think it’s interesting how so many politicians morph into reasonable human beings once they leave the political arena. Maybe the stress and pressure brings out the worst in them.

bombastix · 28/08/2025 09:55

Kwarteng was just ambitious wasn’t he? I mean he had a good relationship with Truss and so he took the job. What he did with it… well that was a bit more surprising

itsgettingweird · 28/08/2025 10:03

It’s interesting because before he became Truss’ chancellor I actually liked him and felt he was a more moderate Tory. Then I questioned my judgement. Yet now he’s that person I warm to again. He’s also got a cracking sense of humour and delivery which helps! (Well his tv persona does it’s not easy to tell what his (any of their) actual personas are because as we’ve said they seem to change with the wind their role)

And since they speak the same language we can save on a translator.

Now there's a meme.

That’s brilliant parody.

SerendipityJane · 28/08/2025 10:35

Wry smile this morning.

Local FB post "worrying" about local parks etc etc.

Has had their arse handed to them by a slew of locals saying that they back the local feral kids over any poor refugee anytime. With a very pointed snark at the anti social behaviour over the past decade.

You won't see that in todays Mail Online, I suspect.

Combining posts to save the thread from filling too quickly. I notice the squirrels decided to bury their nuts elsewhere.

That is such good parody I didn't realise until half way through.
Clearly a large percentage of the commentators on the bsky.app site didn't realise at all 🤣

Her eyebrows look suitably horrified by the idea.

Yes, they are funny!

Rosie Holt has been fooling people for many years now.

You can find her sketches on YouTube

For full disclosure, I believe she is now in a relationship with Stewart Lee, who is a massive presence on FWR 😎(I appear to have inherited my DMs ability to squirrel away surprising "Hello !" type facts to dilute the classical history ....)

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2025 11:53

I have sometimes wondered whether some of the apparently worst posters on MN are Rosie Holt doing a parody... would be great material at a gig.
