I agree @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats . I know technically we vote for the person, but we vote for the person as a representative of the party. We assume they will support the manifesto. If someone swaps then they are changing the very basis of their representation and it feels undemocratic to me.

I think I've said it before but if a defector really believes the idea that their constituents voted for them because of who they were, rather than the party they stood for, then they would have nothing to fear from a by-election.
