Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

MN is an open forum so one cannot dictate who is and is not permitted to post on a thread.

As for this government - I am resigned to the probability that conditions will get a lot worse before they improve, and that will only start when the government has fallen, by legitimate means.

In the interim, I remain at liberty to criticise them, and their supporters, at every turn - and I fully intend to do so, with the data, and the MSM being my main points of reference.

Labour wanted to be in government - that privilege comes with ownership, and responsibility for their errors and omissions.

Pot and Kettle come to mind there. I stopped posting on this thread a while ago because you did exactly the same to me when you didn't like something I posted. You would either start talking about squirrels, start talking about anything other than politics or post gifs. It's childish.

This thread is like being back in the playground at school and considering that some of you on here are over 50 it surprises me that you can act like that. I have said this before on here but I wonder how many of you were bullies at school.

If you don't want other people to join your thread, although not sure that you can stop that, then make it clear that this is a thread for people who support Labour only.

I have literally never done that.
I respect private spaces. I don't lurk. I have never posted on the Labour isn't working thread as I respect the right of those people to have that space.

You're choosing to quote the wrong person here.

Fine, criticise the government. We also do that and when we do, you remain silent.

Your previous post revealed that you actually post for kicks.

MyNameIsX · 31/08/2025 09:10

How can political polarisation ever be addressed if people prefer the ‘safe spaces’ of echo chambers?

Seems illogical to me.

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2025 09:12

PS, I didn't know bullying stopped suddenly after the age of 50.

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2025 09:12

We always get visitors accusing us of bullying.

And when we challenge those claims, we are the ones getting told off for not being nice to the bullies.

I wonder why we are seen as such a threat?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2025 09:14

I don't agree with a huge amount of what people say on this thread.

But 'echo chambers' are also support threads. It's telling that there are posters, across MN, who won't let people chat amongst themselves . I've even seen this on Telly Addicts.

Anyway, I'm out. This bickering is what you wanted and I'm not up for the silly games for your enjoyment.

PandoraSocks · 31/08/2025 09:15

The same thing happens every few months. Different posters, but same MO. I think they just want to take over and ruin these threads so that we all get fed up and stop posting

It would be a shame to let that happen.

Reminds me of the school-gate claims of exclusionary 'cliques'

You’d wonder why anyone would want to post on a thread they think is a playground populated by bullies, wouldn’t you? I know if there was a thread I thought was like that I’d give it a swerve.

Back to politics.

Trump is not dead but he looks bloody awful. I wonder if he will make it to the end of his term?

eta: also 😲

The thing that always amuses me about this thread is the Labour supporters are more critical of Starmer than me - a lifelong swing voter and politically homeless 🤷‍♀️

But you know someone is being disingenuous when they come on having copied text that’s not even fact checked from one source and gloating because something negative has occurred.

I mean - who - with an ounce of common sense and morality - thinks something negative affecting the country is worth gloating about. I engaged with people who want to engage in discussion and the merits and negatives of decisions. Not someone who wants everyone to just say “you’re right”.

I actually think if Labour shut their ears off to Reform and keep following what they believe they will turn this country around. The problems will arise if they spend the next 4/yrs trying to battle reform. That’s all Reform have and all their about - if we close our eyes and silence them in our heads they’ll be seen for what they are soon enough.

Same. I don't even open those threads - they're a safe space for people who hate this government and that's fine. It's just a shame they can't accord us the same basic decency. I have no trouble criticising this government; we do it all the time on here. That isn't the same as slating its members for (gasp) having fun on holiday.

Edited

I was on that thread yesterday. Funniest response was that we know he isn’t dead because he’d have tweeted that he was. 😂

MyNameIsX · 31/08/2025 09:26

Happily, JD is a young man.

Reeves is not ageing well either, is she? And she’s only 46!

BIossomtoes · 31/08/2025 09:26

Wise words @itsgettingweird.

Trump looks bloody awful, I’m wondering if he’ll last another three years too. I’m kind of hoping he does because Vance would be so much worse.

I'd celebrate if Trump dropped down dead and then enter a slough of despond because of the nature of his successor.

One can only hope that because MAGA is such a huge cult of personality, that the worst of his cultists won't transfer to Vance - he is after all a charisma free zone.

However, he is also a political zealot and highly intelligent.

Anyone cheering project 25 can go fuck themselves.

Absolutely. And anyone in the UK supporting that government and pretending to be acting 'to protect women and children' ditto.

BIWI · 31/08/2025 09:36

MyNameIsX · 31/08/2025 07:24

Labour is such a rich source - there is so much to discuss!

And yet, you don’t take part in the rest of the chat do you. No birthday greetings from you, I note. No sympathy or condolences when I talked about my younger brother dying.

Just more claptrap about Angela Rayner.

You’re really not interested in being involved are you? You don’t discuss. You just bitchplop.

Notonthestairs · 31/08/2025 09:38

Project 25 calls for a ‘biblically based’ definition of marriage and family.
And the withdrawal of mifepristone (the abortion pill).

I can see why certain groups would love to get that control back over women.

Not just that, they must be watching and reading this thread as well, otherwise how would you know when to post.

I'm all for criticism of Labour.. when its justified & fairly done, but its not, Reeves gets blamed for food inflation of 4.7%, but when it was 30% under Sunak, its "global events"
Food inflation in most countries is between 2 and 4% ... Brexit adds significantly to our food prices, plus historically, paying producers very little.

Migration? 1m under Sunak, 400k under Starmer....

Growth under Sunak 1% in first 2 Q's = Economic miracle.
Growth under Starmer 1% in first 2 Q's = stagflation/IMF bailout.

I do however, think Labour need to confront Reform, 35% in the polls is not going to go away on its own, v disappointing Phillipson, on Sky, didn't call out Farage on paying the Taliban... its an open goal.

MyNameIsX · 31/08/2025 09:44

I prefer to comment on what I know (not what I don’t know or pretend to know), hence I engaged yesterday when the thread went off-topic on to Sciurus vulgaris.

Otherwise I do not believe its appropriate to share particularly personal matters on open forums like MN.

Edit: I do not know the meaning of ‘bitchplop’.
