My theory is that the media loved all the drama with the last lot and got hooked on it. Now we have a government that’s basically quite boring all the drama has to come from elsewhere and hey presto - Farage is obliging.

Good theory.

They were obsessed with Starmer being boring before the GE so maybe they were warning us!

There is a "surely Rayner has to go" thread running. I hid it.

Oh you shouldn’t. It’s great fun.

Hmm. Maybe I will peek.

The Tories appear simultaneously obsessed and terrified by Angela Rayner.
I remember that former tory deputy chairman writing the unauthorised biography of her.
He must have had to look at a lot of articles about her!

Totally agree. The Tory doth protest too much. If you can’t beat her in an election, can’t beat her argument, and even worse, she calls you scum, then literally it’s the worst thing ever.

I mean she is everything they fear, and she is hard as nails. What they really dislike about her is her failure to concede any of the usual naice social signals one is supposed to give as you move on and up in life. It incenses them.

Thin skinned Tories! Who knew?

Karistyleaftea · 29/08/2025 17:36

Btw Well done Emma Monk!
I'm going to have those facts clear in my head for sunday's social gathering where there will be at least one Farage supporter present.
Wasn't Sarah Vine married to Michael Gove who I think admitted taking drugs several times in the past?

MyNameIsX · 29/08/2025 17:37

Starmer fighting for asylum seekers vs the working man - not a good look. Farage wins either way.

Easier to be in opposition isn’t it Keir!

I’m not sure it is newsworthy anymore for a Conservative politician to have taken drugs. Though they might admit it now to obtain media coverage or some sense of totally unwarranted prominence.

DuncinToffee · 29/08/2025 17:40

Farage and the Taliban is a great look, isn't X?

I’m going to be completely honest, Rayner used to bring out my inner snob but the more I see of her, the more I like and admire her. She’s a proper old school Labour politician cast in the mould of the pre Blair era. She’s intelligent, tenacious, tough and she doesn’t give a toss. No wonder the opposition is terrified.

How does that Dionne Warwick song go ?

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2025 17:42

There are certainly some wildly and deliberately inaccurate representations of the injunction case out there.

I peeked. 🤣🤣🤣

Some posters are really unhealthily obsessed with her. The outrage about her daring to drink and vape in public whilst on holiday is hilarious.

I think that balloon popped when Anne Widdecombe was minster for drugs (or something) and gave a fire and brimstone speech about how she'd publicly execute anyone who even giggled in class prayers only to have the entire shadow cabinet do a walk of shame and admit they had all taken drugs at some point.

The whole war on drugs is such a busted flush, even the newspapers can't revive it.

dontcallmelen · 29/08/2025 17:45

Goldenbear very sorry reading about your relative I hope they have a swift recovery
Placemats love a day out at Ikea I always come home with stuff I didn’t know I needed.
me & Dh got £50.00 each from nationwide was a nice surprise.
had a further nice surprise today, got my invitation letter from DWP to apply for my pension & I qualify for the full amount which I didn’t think I would as had to stop work earlier than planned, was a bit sobering though as neither of my parents received the pension for more than a few months I’m now older than either of them when they died.

Yes superficial but… Angela Rayner has had an unbelievable life. She is a radical person who was ended up near the top of the Labour Party. How often do you see that?

She is quick witted. She slings a tasty one liner and makes Lee Anderson look a schoolboy. And she likes TAX.

Someone will tell me next that she is more popular than Starmer. In an age of Farage style politics she may yet have her moment. Rayner is a much better politician than Starmer or Reeves.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2025 17:47

How many of them can spell Rayner??

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2025 17:48

Rayner enjoys politics.

I agree with all of that. She’s definitely one to watch.

Puts phone down to Kemi Badenoch’s special adviser and crosses out “Badenoch in Horse Tranquiliser Frenzy” as headline to leak to the Times.

Heartily recommend yet again The Rest Is Politics interview with Angela Rayner. Even Rory Stewart was won over. Inspiring.

Yes, I agree, when I saw her (YouTube) on the Rest is Politics she was very impressive and my teenage son has sung her praises for a long time!
