There are some very pissed off Mumsnetters right now who are claiming the decision will help Reform. And suggestions of corruption on the part of the appeal judges are beginning to creep in.

I thought it was us woke liberall tofu eating marxist lefties who made them vote Reform? Now I feel left out Sad

I laugh when they say that. It’s like the classic abuser line - “Now look what you made me do”!

Is it too late to say "don't bite"?

Is that Diana, she looks a bit like Jane Asher in the Fairy liquid advert from the 80s!

Ah, so is that Jane Asher decorating one of her famous cakes then?

DuncinToffee · 29/08/2025 16:42

Anyone arguing that the Epping asylum hotel Court of Appeal case relates to the European Convention on Human Rights is wrong

The judgment mentions the ECHR once, to make clear it wasn't considered at all by the judges and that they wouldn't countenance a "hierarchy of rights"

I didn't. And won't.

Eta: well I did reply to one poster to ask fir clarification. But that's all guv, honest.

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2025 16:48

Obviously Farage claims that the Government 'used the ECHR against the British people'.

Now do we think A) he can't read and understand English or B) is lying through teeth.

Twat.

It might be nice if people writing for national newspapers actually fact checked the deliberately misleading statements of leading politicians rather than just reproducing them without comment.

Bit too much to expect from private equity firms and wealthy billionaires?
I suppose so.

Epping Council has some questions to answer

https://bsky.app/profile/shoaibmkhan.bsky.social/post/3lxkbldex7c2i

Important point, I think, which was not commonly known before today.

Below is an extract from Court of Appeal judgment.

In 2023, [Bell Hotel] applied for planning permission. For over a year, the Council did not deal withit, despite a statutory duty to deal with such applications within 8 weeks.

I re read Brian Bilston's 2016 "Refugees" poem earlier today.
It is so sad the way some hostile Reform supporters and the ilk are talking about other human beings.
I would like them to consider the words in the poem but I'm not sure if they would get to the end of it and get the point he is making.
I don't understand at all why the media is fuelling this hatred , how do they think it is going to end?

So depressing.

BIossomtoes · 29/08/2025 17:09

My theory is that the media loved all the drama with the last lot and got hooked on it. Now we have a government that’s basically quite boring all the drama has to come from elsewhere and hey presto - Farage is obliging.

Yes, good theory and the nation's (bar some) concentration span can't cope with boredom!

This is a good theory. It’s why we have Summer of Racism not “Deadly Huge Asian Murder Hornets Are Moving to Surrey”

Maybe it’s the really the same story, but I still preferred it when the racist proxy was hornets and not actual racism

I think you're right. Politics as entertainment has become the norm, and we need to wean ourselves off it. Make Politics Boring Again! (Damn, that slogan would be useless on a hat and you can't chant it because you'd be spitting the whole time).

Emma Monk debunks

The desperation by those on the Right to smear Angela Rayner is wearing thin🙄

And no - don’t bother replying UNTIL you’ve read the thread! I’ve trawled through multiple versions of this “story” in the Telegraph and Daily Mail to try and piece together what’s going on!

I think they already had a go at Rayner in similar terms before the election. It is nearly exactly the same.

BIossomtoes · 29/08/2025 17:23

Thanks Duncin. You can feel the exasperation.

Karistyleaftea · 29/08/2025 17:29

The Tories appear simultaneously obsessed and terrified by Angela Rayner.
I remember that former tory deputy chairman writing the unauthorised biography of her.
He must have had to look at a lot of articles about her!

PandoraSocks · 29/08/2025 17:32

There is a "surely Rayner has to go" thread running. I hid it.
